This city is so underrated. It will easily run a full marathon around Dallas, Austin, Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta and hundreds of other cities.

I agree, it has so much natural beauty as well as architectural. Very vibrant and bustling. The only thing missing is a harbor like we have in Norfolk VA.

Wow that's a huge statement maybe i need to get out more lol because I'm from the area. I go downtown from time to time on certain events. Richmond is the type of place is if you dont get out much you definitely not going to know where the hidden gems are only by word of mouth @nasirjones-bey6565

This video does not depict all of the Hill. I grew up on 35th. The people in the area who have owned their homes are being pushed out because of higher property taxes, all in the name of revitalization. When I go home now, I don't even recognize the neighborhood anymore. The rent has skyrocketed, and I'm seeing more Caucasians living where minorities used to live. I'm for change and growth, but not at the expense of the poor. As a matter of fact the same thing has taking place in Harlem.

I will never ever forget the hill cafe. 8yrs ago was when I 1st experienced a racist encounter. Some white guy, low cut hair did not want to serve me a drink. He claimed alcohol hours was over. Then to the left of me sat a white couple, and they asked for beers and he served them. The white lady felt horrible for me and said, well maybe they're not serving "alcohol" try to order beers. And I did, and he wouldn't serve me. I asked him why couldn't I be served and the white couple could? My cousin said "come on Mimi let's go". I stood outside staring at the café with tears in my eyes. And then looking at the loose brick, and then the café and then the brick. My cousin was in the car, started it up and I was scoping out a plan, then she yelled at me to come on. So I did. I called for the manager/owner the next day. And he took like 3days to respond. Only to tell me he played the cameras back and couldn't tell or see anything. He refused to make the situation right or do anything about it. I called NAACP every fucking day for a month straight. And they are a joke. No one ever answered they're phone, and everyday for an entire month, they're mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. Never got any justice for this situation. And til this day 8yrs and 8 months later, I have not yet to dine in that area PERIOD! Left a bad taste in my mouth, and it broke my heart. U hear about racism, u see it on TV, read about it in newspapers, magazines. But to experience it, awe man. Very very VERY hurtful and unfair. So fuck the hill cafe and whomever those guys were. Both, the bar tender that night and the owner/manager. I will never forget u for this.

And fuck NAACP too with their phony bogus ass.
Now I'm usually a very reserved happy bubbly & optimistic person. But just telling this story again after 8yrs has definitely made me relive that hurtful day. So pardon me for my language. I got mad all over again. 😊

Sorry you went through a bad situation. Up on that end the Caucasians have taken over. They've pushed out the poor and it's wrong as hell!

Thank you. 😊 And yes. I know. Gentrification has definitely did a major change everywhere! And they have always showed hatred towards the beautiful rich & indigenous people of melanin. That's why I wish our people wake tf up and come together and stop hurting each other bc we already running the same race against another race. But we so dam foolish and ignorant to see that. And we fell for the agenda and it's terrible man. I love my ppl but they piss me tf off too being ignorant, sleep, unaware and weak. How we go from being the strongest people to the stupid gullible fools. Smh. 🤦🏿🤷🏿

You're absolutely right. My mom's had a home on 35th and after she died my older crack head brother lost it. When I found out it was to late. Well we all know who owns it now. I no longer recognize the old neighborhood, it saddens me. I grew up there and have many memories as a child. I too love our people, but let's face it, there is no unity among us. Even when another brother is shot and killed by a white police officer I have no time for marches and demonstrations, mainly because where are all the marches and demonstrations when that little child is killed by a stray bullet. Where are the demonstrations when that person overdoses of drugs being sold on the corner down the block. Do you see my point? Anyway that's another subject, again I'm terribly sorry you had to go through what you did in my old neighborhood. Happy holidays..

I’m pretty sure you can see my grandma’s Airbnb in the background here, she got it 3 or 4 years ago, it’s called Erin’s Oasis, it’s close to 3 parks, and a stones throw away from a national park/museum, check it out!
