As a water purification specialist in the army at Fort Lee Virginia; the water problems in Richmond always amazed me. The amount of water purification equipment could really help purify water from the James River and pump it up to Richmond and the citizens of the Richmond prince greater area
Redmond ur right crazy how history is. I was born in richmond 1968 and grew up in Churchill/ Whitcomb CT and grandfather lived right in front of the flower bed in front of chimborazo park and I never sent this ..crazy but I will when I go back home 😊
They could sleeve/reinforce this tunnel as it's being excavated I bet fairly easily with today's tech. we have everything from metal, concrete, and acrylics its just too expensive, and no gain from doing it.
I live in Richmond,Va and i am very familiar with the tunnel and have drove by the entrance on 18th st. many times i wanted to know which entrance is the train closer to
I would like to add a bit to the history of the tunnel seeing that it was in my backyard on twenty nine street and my family had a long history of working for the C&O. My grandfather was the Chief Purchasing Agent for the C&O and my father ran Fulton Yards which was at the southern end of the tunnel. My father would take in inside the tunnel at the southern end to inspect it. My father new people who where there that day. It was not the only disaster to occur on that site for the Indians defeated the British Colonists in the 1700 hundreds
Personally I feel like it would be a good decision to actually dig out the entire tunnel, recover the bodies, the locomotive, and flatcars. Then fill it back in with soil to prevent sinkholes from occurring as to prevent more disasters from happening.
It’s far too dangerous to open. The tunnel never should’ve been built in the first place and was always structurally unstable and had constant problems. If they open it they risk another collapse, but there’s now houses and apartments etc above the tunnel so if the tunnel collapses it could kill a lot more people. Even undisturbed it occasionally has minor collapses that cause small sink holes in people’s backyards. If technology advances to where they can open it safely I would love to see what’s inside, but right now it’s not worth the risk
Every city have a story what things be happening in the city. And why. Very interesting . In the past. Was a curse or something else about the 🚆. And people got hurt or killed in the 🚆. When know for sure. In was 1925.
It’s appalling that they made sure to recover a white man’s body, but left behind at least 6 black men. The happy looking train mural outside the tunnel makes it even more disrespectful.
4 of the 6 men were found in a second head count the white guy was in the train his body was easy to find considering how most people got out, source history from the dark's video

I've lived in Richmond for 20 years and didn't know this story.
Super sad. I live in the lofts where this was filmed. Right above the tunnel entrance. I walk through Jackson park all the time and never knew this

Right On!
Amazing Editing 👍, also Rip those victims from the tunnel collapse
Thanks for doing this doc y’all !!
Tragic and devastating 😢
they need to open that tunnel and bring the people to with their loved ones
How do you suggest they do that without destroying the structures in the immediate area?
Great video!
So basically once they got the white dude out, they didn’t give a shit about trying to find the 2 black laborers. Color me shocked…
You don't know that to be true.
@@SGNbuffliteral history says otherwise
Wow. How sad :( 🙏❤

Great job.
Bro everyone acting like this is a video, VPM is a tv channel
Like history and would love to visit Richmond, Virginia. Thank you.
I live right in that area
i think they need to open it
It’s basically impossible to open the tunnel and retrieve the train because the tunnel has too much water invit

Fear it's too unstable to open it was long enough to free the train and remains
I heard they could lose a few houses above the tunnel if they tried digging it out.
@@LMSPetRescue Also given the moisture content in the dirt the train is probably rusted away.
👍👍👍

I wish they would open it up and get everything out to put it in a museum
Great video !
