Best Day of Crab Fishing and Crabbing at Newport Beach, California

A winter cold front makes for a fun afternoon of crabbing at Newport Beach. Landed lots of little crabs, and a few actual rock crab keepers.

I've caught crab off Newport and Balboa Piers with both styles. The small one is very light and easy to store, but large crabs can climb out of it. I recommend adding a squirrel feeder/bird feeder style cage for the bait to be secured in, and tying it shut with a piece of fishing line

You don’t need a license to fish from any pier in California as far as I know
