This was really good. I had fun watching this. I will have to watch this one several times. Alot of info about the about the BGVs and the Stereo Imager that I clearly could hear that I need to grasp. I working with a WING. Thanks for listening!
Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Could you please provide the levels for the Fx Returns on the mixer? I also observed that you did not use Parallel-Compression on your drums and your mix sounds great without the parallel-Compression, you are a wonder.
Thanks so much. I typically keep my effects returns at unity and focus on adjusting what’s being sent into the effects processor. Since every situation and song is unique, I don’t always remember the exact levels I was sending for each instrument.
Good morning, love this video! Had a quick question for Lead voc if it’s not going to the subgroup and only LR. If we’re using subgroup to LR for FOH, streaming purpose since I am using a matrix through, I could I combat this?
@@RichardAdekanmi if your LR bus is going to your matrix for your stream, there shouldn’t be a problem however, if you are not set up this way, then you could create a bus for your lead vocals And send that to the matrix. Email me at tpm@timothymeekins.com - I’d love to be of me assistance if needed.
Sounds good! This was good bro really appreciate this! Is there any way you could show this same technique and strategy in logic or another DAW? Also what IEM’s are you using and do you prefer them to speakers for mixing live streams?
Thanks so much. I hope it helps. No problem I can create a logic mix video. I use the Alclair Electro Six IEM- they are super flat for broadcast in my opinion. I prefer using IEMs for mixing for broadcast or live stream. Most are going to listen with headphones 🎧 it seems like anyhow. Also I feel like I get a more universal and accurate mix with my IEMs or barefoot studio monitors.
Hey bruh, I am in Nairobi, Kenya I appreciate this video popping up cause I have been facing issues with my live stream. I'm mixing on the X32 and I've had multiple issues but you've given me some keys that I am going to use. I think those finishing touches are all that I was missing. Much appreciated and everyone be blessed. Clarence
@@MeekPro It was amazing. The increase in clarity and spread is next level. It is very much appreciated. I will continue learning from you an dincreasing my knowledge base. I do have one question about head amp gains, I think they had been set prior to my arrival and I feel like a few channels may be too hot, is there an optimal setting that I should use? Thanks again and God bless you immensely.
Awesome, I’m so glad it worked for you. It's difficult to give a precise answer without knowing the specifics of how your PA system is configured, particularly the settings on your amplifiers and monitors. Ideally, I aim for a strong, healthy signal on all channels, typically between -12 and -6 dB. I also consider fader positions important, so I prefer to have my faders around the 0 dB mark and mix from there.
I just finished watching all the videos in the ’How To EQ’ series. One thing I noticed, which you explained, was that you don’t usually boost what is already present; I also noticed you don’t do makeup gain after compression. How do you handle gain staging? Do you gain the drums a bit hotter than the rest of the band/vocal, or aim for the same level? You have shown us this critical step. Thank you for your time
Thank you so much! While I didn't specifically cover gain staging, I generally aim to have all my input levels peaking around -6 dB. This approach ensures a healthy level for all outputs, which is particularly important if my console is split to another console or if I'm mixing a live stream from my front-of-house desk-a common scenario for me. Each situation can vary, so makeup gain can be useful in certain circumstances. Yes, I strive to maintain consistent gain staging across all channels.
Starting from scratch and mixing, using experience and hears, great mix my brother, I'm going to implement some of your method into my mixing for the live stream
36:40 what do I think of that? I think I want to play with that bass player lol he is grooving! Nice tutorial! I learned quite a lot I am going to try out. The only suggestion I have is if you are somehow able to put a ducker on the audio when you are speaking that would be great.
Man, you're amazing. Love your workflow and simplicity. Nothing too complex but yet so on point. I think I'll use this as a reference for most of my mixes. Thank you!
Greetings my brother, AMAZING AMAZING WORK 💯 I watch this video multiple time since the day you post it and just want to say thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge. Wanted to get information from you about sound consulting. If you can please send me that information, I would greatly appreciate it. Blessings 🙏
@MeekPro Thanks. That's the second time I've been impressed by the Wing's pre-amps. I actually would have guessed a Yamaha CL.. Keep the videos coming.
Bro, this is so good, I've always been in the lookout for simplicity in mixing, actually i don't have issues with EQ, that's like my strong point, but working with FX is a major challenge for me, especially Revervs, both vintage and hall. I've always used some preset which i do not understand how they derived it, but i would really love to know how to be creative around it, I love the way you used the cobinator too, God bless you for me. Then my last request, i want to be sure of how you setup your subgroup, did you send your channels to them on Pre faders or post? And why do we have 2 stero sub groups? Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words! To answer your question, the channels are sent to the subgroups post-fader. I’ve set up two stereo subgroups-one for the band and another for the background vocals-so I can process them differently. This setup allows me to EQ and compress the band and vocals separately as needed. I hope this helps!
@@MeekProOh yeah! Just saw it now when I watched again in the video. I saw you removed the channel from LR and Sent to the sub groups, does that mean, you sent the subgroups to feed the LR leaving those you removed behind, the vocals goes to the LR directly without going into the Sub groups? So applying this to Livestream, are we going to have same LR for Streaming and FOH? Hope I got the concept right sir?
Yes, I route every channel to a subgroup and remove them from the stereo bus. This way, the subgroups, rather than the individual channels, are sent to the left and right stereo bus. The channels make a stop at the subgroups for processing before reaching the final outputs, ensuring a cleaner and more controlled mix in my opinion.
That was brilliant, thank you. I have some questions: are you sending drums and vocals to the same FX, and is the FX return sent straight to the LR or returned to the subgroup. Second question please, is there any compression/eq on the Band Subgroup? Thank you
hey thank you no problem. I hope this helps. I normally use the same reverb for my vocals and my band. I only use a stereo spreader on the band, not the vocalist that way in my mind. The band is far left and right and the vocals kind of sit in the middle in that 90° stereo image. As far as Reverb is I normally don’t return it to one of the buses. It just goes directly to left and right. Again in my mind, I like things to sit at the 90° point and other things to sit at the 180° point but that’s just me. As far as EQ on the band bus a lot of the times I will sculpt it but it’s mainly just a small dip at about 200 and maybe a bump at 6K.
