I was stationed at Camp Hansen, from early 1962 to May of 1964. Kin Town, was called Kin Village, back then. I returned to Okinawa, in 2017, and was disappointed to see how it had changed including Kin Village. I really miss Okinawa, the way it looked back in the early 60's. Thanks so much for posting this video. :-)
oh thanks for your comment! I was born in near Yokosuka base 1971. yes I've heard 60s were best moment at US military towns...
@@NoriFoodTrip I was also born in 1971, Western Ukraine, the city of Mukachevo. My name is Leonid.
When I was there there were alit of pawn shops restaurants tailor shops and bars some with music some with out. There was a Kobe steakhouse on the main road. One bar had this wonderful band who played Jefferson Airplane and sounded just like them. The only bar name I can remember was the armed forces club and there was a bathhouse that I used to frequent.
Kin vil use to be the wild west back in the day. Better than Vegas.
My grandfather used to own dry cleaning at Kin village. Maybe you've been there.
Oh man, got so excited to see Mama's Place ( as we called it)! Located on the right corner (with the checkered tile) before moving up towards Shangri-La! Best Yakisoba and fried rice in town and still crave the Yaki after 40 years! Also to the right was an old mama-san, I'm sure she was at least 80, who had a hibachi grill going on with the absolute best Yakitori ever grilled!. I think it was chicken 😅! Good times, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for your comment! Yakitori must be chicken. because Yaki means grilled Tori means chicken. Have a nice day!
I was there as boot Marine in 1990-1991, never would have thought that such a crappy place to be stationed would yield so many lifelong stories..looking back, so glad I got to experience things so few Americans ever will.
oh nice to hear that. Thans for your coment
Same here Marine we would travel from Camp Courtney to Kinville just about every week. I enjoyed the women and the taco rice and would love to go back and visit. I was there from 1989-1990 and had a ball!
I was there from Aug 90 to Aug 91 also, Division Schools. And your 💯 right, so many great memories for sure!! Semper Fi Devil Dog!
I was at Hansen with 3/4 and 1/4 1974-77. It’s changed a lot! My main bar and favorite restaurant are now a park!
I was there from 75 to 76 as a dental tech for the Navy. It was Kinville to me as well. Lovely place it is.
good to hear that. at that time Yokohama had American houses. Yokosuka and Okinawa city still has street like this...
Yep Kin'ville '75-'76
I was actually in Kitamae proper but at 21 yrs old I had skin in the game, up n down the rock lol
Thanks for being there James!
Cheers!

Koza, plus Futenma Town...& Kin'ville is where I partied. But I kept a very low profile in Kitamea. No rowdy. Very respectful. Best food and the locals respect us in like kind.
Cheers!

I was there in 72. I didn't see a single building I recognized. The place really changed when it reverted back to Japanese control. Thank you for the video
Thank you for a comment! I was born in 1971 near Yokosuka and Atsugi base. (Kanagawa)
At Courtney 71-72 ... I feel fortunate to have been there when I WAS ... The REVERSION 15May1972 ruined the island, its culture, its natural beauty and turned it into a Commercial Circus! 😢
I was stationed there at Camp Hansen 1983-84(Camp Hansen Camp Guard) I remember Kinville quite well. The club called Club East Coast, The Cave, Club Shangrila and all the skeevie houses! LOL
Good to hear that! Thanks! I was born in Kanagawa by Yokosuka, Zama and Atsugi. so I grew up with American culture.
@@NoriFoodTrip I grew up in Sagamihara, Camp Zama, and Makiminato (Okinawa) from 1972 to 1982. My mom is Japanese (Okinawan) and my dad is American. I live in the US now, but I miss the Japanese people, food and culture.
I was in Okinawa in 1963 with M3/9 stationed at camp Hansen. What I remember about
Kin village was there were a lot of bars and benjo ditches which were open sewer ditches on the streets of the town. My favorite bar was the silver dollar bar. The mamasan liked me and sometimes would invite me to eat with them. Short time cost 2 dollars back then.
nice to hear it
I was there 1990-1991. First duty station. Glad to see the Shang is still there.
Thanks for your comment! night time video will be coming soon!
I was at Hansen in 72. Kin village had some great bars with some great music. One bar had a band that sounded just like Jefferson Airplane. Another bar had a house band that played nothing but music by the Ventures. All great musicians who sang with no accent. I've played bass since 1967 and these locals were great.
thanks I can imagine that!! Jefferson Airplane! Ventures were super popular in Japan. Okinawan people learned English from ear, but Japanese main island people learned English from text book so they can't speak well.
Love the Okinawan culture, and plan to visit next year, as I havent been back since 95. Are you planning on doing any more walking tour videos?
yes I will do it thanks for visiting
金武町は豊だからなぁ~。町も人も。噴水公園には毎回感動する。

Yeah Yeah I heard BTS shot music video here.
Nice sharing my friend 😊👍
Thanks for visiting
I was there in 87, I remember a few of the places you walked by. A few of us would go to the Blue Sky bar, I remember walking up a hill, it was a tiny hole in wall on the edge of the Town with a Midget Lady for a Bartender.
wow good to hear that! thank you
I was there 1976-77 Camp Guard I know things and places change over time but man Kinville has totally changed Shangrila still hanging in the excitement that went on in the Shangrila Boston Club, Sixtynine Club when coming across the street from gate 2 to enter the ville there was a electronic store that had the most advance electronics stateside couldn’t come close. Man thanks for the video brother. They took a lot down to build that park what a waste.
Thanks for your comment. I didn't know they had electric store and more buildings before park.
1975-76. It was Kinville for me as well.Served with the Navy as a Dental Tech
Oh Kinville!!! I was 4 years old at that time. and I grew up near Yokosuka base.
Gostei de ver seu vídeo meu amor conhecer um pouco do seu país fica sempre conectada
Thank you for watching
I left Okinawa in 2007. My Youngest son was Born In Chatan Okinawa Camp Lester Hospital
it's nice to hear it!
I think where that plaza with the picnic tables are is where East Coast Rock-N-Roll was back in the early 90s.
oh really! nice to hear that. thank you!
I was there in the 60's hit 4 queens in a poker game, headed straight to Kin Town! Then to Da Nang , LOL.
good memory! thanks for your comment
❤金武町も1度行きたいです。キングタコス食べに❗️

ここがタコライス発祥の地なんです。またよろしくお願いします。
Kin looks a lot less seedy and potentially intriguing than it did in the late '70s. Walk through at night.
Thanks for watching
I was there in the 90s was way different

Cool military base in town.. I see some nice restaurants to eat too 😍
Taco Rice was born here😊
I was stationed at Camp Hansen 93-94. It was an awesome experience. I was 18 back then I hope one day I can visit. I wonder how it looks at night?
oh yes! Kin town is known for birth place of TACO rice. BTS shoot music video here. there still have nostalgic mood.
Did you ever meet Marcus Gill?
My nephew was stationed here for a few years - he enjoyed the culture and learned a lot in Okinawa - not all Marines are bad - lol 😆

米軍基地ゲート前の街なんです。
昨日ここでタコライス食べてきた。
その後街を歩いたけどアメリカに支配されてて物悲しくなった。

Wow, the resolution is really clear and bright👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
oh yeah!
That’s not the Kinville that I remember from ‘87 & ‘89. Shangri-La and the food stand in front of gate 1 are the only things I saw that I knew. The Cave, East Coast, and San Francisco the buildings are there but the businesses gone. Looks like Sgt. Pepper’s and Rock America were torn down to make that open space with the picnic tables. Seems like a ghost town now.
Thanks for your comment. I will upload night walking tour too!
76 -77 rotated out, returned 9 months later. It already started to change in the 9 months I spent back in the states.
Thank you for watching. this town still has 70s feeling

Hi friend! Very interesting walk through. The town looks pretty empty. Lots of restaurants. TFS
yeah it was more busy at Vietnam War times.
I was there in ‘92 and it looked bombed out then. Even worse now! That big park wasn’t there. It was blocks of bars. Looks like King Taco moved too. What happened to Snack Bogey? Also….that Chicken and Waffles place used to be the Grand Palace. I used to have a “girlfriend” there. Damn…Shangri-La is still there? Looks like all the places that used to be bars are now apartments and such. That one bar around the corner from Shangri-La used to be called Club Washington. And across the street we used to go to Club Night for karaoke. I don’t see no girls running around trying to get you to buy them lunch either. What the Hell happened to this place?
Oh I didn't know the park wasn't there! I think I should visit night time and report what's going on. Thanks for your comment.
@@NoriFoodTrip yeah…I’m trying to remember what was there. I think it was a bar called Surfside and there were more. Club Madonna, there was a hotel there, Club Hollywood. That blue bar on the corner was called Blue Hawaii. Up the road was Mama Rose, I think there was a bar called Rock America.
おはようございます♪😃

HqCo,HqBn Camp Courtney Aug71-Aug72 I loved the Okinawan people, their culture, the natural beauty of the island ... then, The Reversion 15May72 ruined it all (feel very fortunate to have been there WHEN I WAS!)
glad to hear this. thank you!
So, there's a US base in Japan?
Yes! Japan lost WW2 then we have lots of US bases. They are important to watch China and North Korea now.
