    I have had the P09 for close to 2 years now, around 5000 rounds through it and it works like a charm every time. The accuracy and shootability is just amazing and i like shooting it more than my glock.

      I've had mine for about the same time period. Had nothing but fun with this gun. However I recently got a box of the g2 RIP ammo. Everytime I've tried to chamber these shells the slide doesn't close all the way, and will get stuck when I try to pull the slide back. I've never had any other trouble out of any ammunition before or since.

    I love CZ. I think they are a poor mans Sig out of the box because they are equal out of the box at a much lower price point. Send a CZ to CZ Custom or Cajun Gunworks then it becomes a pistol at the same price as a stock Sig but far superior in every way. I like Sigs but the high bore axis is just ridiculous. CZ are known as the #1 wonder 9 in the world and next to a 1911 they are the most cloned pistols for a reason. They simply are the best ;)

  • @937-b3o
    @937-b3o 8 лет назад +6

    It is not the weight that makes all CZ pistol have very little recoil. It is the low slide that lets you get a higher grip of the gun and also the design with the slide inside the frame that allows most of the energy to dissipate down the frame. This helps reduces the muzzle flip and lets you be ready for a second shot in less time. That's why it is used so much in competitions. I have tested the CZ against heavier guns and there is no comparison, the CZ feels like a lower caliber.

    Been looking at the P-09 for awhile and hadn't really paid much attention to the XDm which I can clearly see now I should after personally owning a XD40 and have nothing but pleased with its performance. I really like CZ and nearly everything Manf. by the Co. is top notch so by choosing the P-09 I figured it'd be a safe bet. Like yourself I'm not a fan of Double Action and 100% Striker/Center fire. Although It never really persuaded me to not include it into my decision. Seeing your review and owning a SA already and very close to replacing my SR9c with a XD9s I may just keep it in the family and be a proud Papa of Springfield's. The cost of either may be a deciding factor for most if unable to purchase on sale or perhaps find a used one. For myself working for a retailer PT has it's perks when buying a firearm. Great video and as always a pleasure to be a local fan and follower. Thx Wil

  • @theforest4956

    Well The CZ has 2 trigger systems included. Decocker AND a manual safety that takes a minute to change. You can get the P-09 with night sights now for $500, or far less than the SA, and with a way better trigger pull if carried Cocked & Locked. And +1 to CZ for NO STUPID GRIP SAFETY. The recoil difference you noticed can be a little from the weight difference, but the bore axis of the CZ is so much lower, and therefore so much better than the SA that it is most likely the majority of why it shoots so much better. SA slide sits on top of the rails; CZ slide rides IN its rails. Oh, and the paint comes off the SA rear sights with very little daily carry. And the craptastic striker trigger pull. I sold my last XDm a year ago, but got another P-09 that is suppressor ready. So for me, BIG win for CZ here. And this from a guy who carries mostly Glocks for EDC.

    @hickok45 The othe reason why there less perceived recoil from the CZ is due to the low bore axis which puts the recoil more in line with your arm. I enjoy everything you do on your channel, thank you!

    Also the XDm flips more with the higher bore axis but it recovers lightening fast and doesn't push nearly as hard as guns with lower bore like Glock, M&P. Once you get used to the XDm it flattens way out. A key thing many people skip. The XDm shoots MUCH more accurate using grip tape or a grip treatment of some kind. The greasy plastic grip is a huge issue with the stock gun out of the box, IMO. Compare the XDm chamber to a case gauge, you'll be impressed.

    When there are rounds in the magazine the follower depresses. The follower has a lip on it that holds the slide lock up by putting pressure on it when there is an empty mag. When inserting a "fresh" mag with force the magazine will push the lock up, and with no lip to hold it up it goes down dropping the slide.

    I was in the market for a beretta px4 storm sub compact, having owned a full size about 10 years ago. then at gun shop, glanced over and saw a shadow, man that thing just looked awesome! the p09 is probably closest to a shadow you can get, and right there and then bought it, threaded version, so 21 rounds, I'm very happy with my choice! awesome weapon

    They cut out the XD slide to lighten it, specifically to reduce felt recoil. Many similarly designed competition guns are set up this way for the same reason. We've all seen the standard Glock/Zev 34/35 setups, along with heavy magwells and mag plates out on the range. This configuration reduces reciprocating mass, and lowers the center of gravity to control recoil (and make sure the mag drops, of course).
    The slide cutouts on pistols of this design are there to diminish reciprocating mass. Less mass in motion should in turn allow lighter spring weights and less recoil disturbance from the slide and barrel action. The drawback on these non-fixed barrel setups is that they flip the barrel mass upward as the slide assembly cycles.
    Following the same principle of physics, a heavier slide ...more reciprocating mass on the CZ would not necessarily favor less felt recoil unless there were a way to reduce upward leverage as the assembly cycles above the hand (primary fulcrum) and the (lighter, in this case) barrel rocks upward on the lug.
    If I were looking for reasons as to why the CZ is more controllable, I would look to the combined differences in bore axis, guide rail support and location and the total reciprocating mass of the slide assembly (along with spring travel and weights). While the CZ slide may be heavier, it is also fully supported out to the end of the full length rail/dust cover. This setup distributes mass displacement more evenly across a greater bearing surface, and the entire assembly sits lower/closer to the hand. The barrel itself is slightly shorter and lighter than the XD, further reducing the amount of upward thrust generated by its mass.
    The XD uses a short dust cover and partial forward rails that sit way back by the lug; much closer to the primary fulcrum, which is the shooter's hand. This arrangement concentrates most of the reciprocating energy and upward thrust to a single location, much closer to (and somewhat higher than) the hand. If you were to distribute five 50lb cement bags across a board (lever) resting one end on a wall (fulcrum) and lifting the other, which would require less lifting force?
    A: Five bags distributed evenly from the fulcrum point out to the lifter
    B: All five bags stacked very close to the fulcrum
    Hopefully everyone got "B" and can see why the XD's upward thrust might be somewhat more difficult to control with equal force (though the XD energy would be slightly higher with the longer barrel) being exerted at the end of the barrel. If you want to use weight to stabilize a gun of this type, you typically want it at a lower center of mass, combined with favorable center balance ....and as little reciprocating mass as is practical.
    Of course, there are always "it depends" factors and tradeoffs that mechanical models and testing are employed to prove out ....aka engineering, but a heavier CZ slide is not likely the simple answer ...if anyone gives two cents. ;-)

      Tuning a competition gun can be tricky, I've found just the opposite of what you stated, lighter slides typically need heavier springs to operate reliably. Lighter slide with a lighter spring means less lock time which can lead to short stroking and feeding issues. The trick is finding the balance between slide weight / spring tension and hammer weight and hammer spring tension and combining them to run well with your ammunition load to get the combination of speed and reliability, which usually means a lot of trial and error and changing of springs. Lightening a slide has very little to do with felt recoil and more for cycling speed and reducing shooter fatigue. Just my own experiences.

    The bore is also lower on the CZ, and the CZ is a bit narrower. The CZ also is a proper DA/SA with decocker. Personally, I prefer the CS SP01 Phantom gen2.

    He really seems to be more accurate with the XDM 5.25 than anything he has shot in other videos as of late. I love the new found push to get competition guns mainstreamed for IDPA and USPSA divisions. Sad that IDPA won't allow the 5.25 in the SSP division. Quicker target acquisition with my 5.25 than my Glock 34 or M&P core.

    Another reason, I believe, for the CZ handling recoil better is the well-known low bore axis of the CZ platform. I do believe the P-09 is basically a Polymer version of the CZ-75, so it should enjoy that same wonderful low bore-axis of the CZ-75.
    And I love me a good De-Cocker :) DA/SA/De-cocker configs are, IMHO, the best overall balance between safety and weapon-ready status.

  • @johndeere1951a

    Meanwhile, as of 2024, CZ states that the P-09 was discontinued 2023.
    I just bought the P-09 Suppressor ready threaded 5.15" barrel, tall night sights, 2 - 21 round magazines, black. Found online# 499.99 clams.
    Winner winner CZ dinner👍

    I had the Xdm 9 and the P09 9. I got the xdm first and was in love because it was accurate, reliable, and fun to shoot. Once I got my P09 it was all over for my xdm cause I rarely picked it up after that. The P09 is awesome. Accurate, reliable, and even more fun to shoot. The Omega trigger is so smooth and is so much better than the xdm's trigger. It feels awesome in your hands. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a safety decocker like my FNX 45.

    Great review as usual! Could the P09 recoil a bit less because the slide is set in the frame like all CZ pistols? My CZ 75 does kick a bit less than my G19, just a thought. Keep up the great work, you and Big John are the best!

    • @nathanmaestas1727
      @nathanmaestas1727 4 года назад

      The CZ has less recoil because of the internal rail system. The slide rides lower on the frame which transfers less energy to the frame and shooter. The higher the slide rides the more "leverage" it has, so more energy is transferred through to the shooter. If that makes sense?🤔

    The biggest difference is the trigger. Cz s trigger is crisp with a SHORT reset. Xdm is somewhat spongey , with a ever so slightly longer reset.
