  • The sound quality of digital cables don’t vary from brand to brand, but analog cables do. In this week’s episode of DJcityTV’s “Tips & Tricks,” Mojaxx discusses some of the things that set different analog cables apart and reviews Oyaide’s Neo d+ Series Class B RCA and USB cables.
To learn more about analog cables, we recommend reading Gizmodo's article, which is mentioned in this video: gizmodo.com/521...

Several others have picked up on this also, what you've missed when it comes to digital cables is that you're not trying to maintain the actual data being passed. You're aim is to lower resistance so that data gets to its destination as fast as possible. Poor cables can give noticeable lag which is a bastard for sound cards. That's where the value comes in.

Which color goes in red and which one goes in white ?

    • @carlrowlinson2833

@@StatikTronik I would put green in red and white in white, but it really doesn't matter as long as you match both ends

@@carlrowlinson2833 that’s what I thought. Yea so whatever câble I put in red on my controller should be in red on the sound system in the place I mix, and same for the white ?

FYI - obviously, like most things there are diminishing returns, but the USB IC implements the data encoding of the digital data stream, as well as the clock recovery and data extraction in the analog domain on USB, and is subject to a wide range of noise, jitter, frequency-dependent attenuation and more. It is a complex thing to encode, transcode, decode and map those clock and data packets waveforms and boundaries at such high speeds, and it is subject to many sources of noise/interference, attenuation and other confounding factors.
We would much rather have spent $10/cable in our studio for USB cables, but found a host of issues for MIDI transport. We had tried weeks of various fixes for the intermittent MIDI and other related issues. Then we got a few different types of Midi cables at the $20 -50 price point and the problems almost disappeared. Every time we substituted a standard MIDI cable, th clicks, pops and drops came back. Some instruments like the Dave Smith keyboard and the Roli were more sensitive than others. Finally we got a single expensive cable (about $150), which 100% eliminated all the remaining problems for the DS and Roli. It was a cable that several engineers we know from top studios swore by, and they are right.
We also have not gotten a single catastrophic lockup, any needs for Midi resets or any of the occasional DAW lockups we would get on the ROLI that we thought was the ROLI Equator software. Seems like the MIDi cables fixed those problems also.
We should have known better, since we had found similar issues with USB tethering digital still cameras in the studio to Capture One, which only works with certain fairly high end USB cables.
So, if you are not having any issues with whatever USB cables- then great- stick with them. But if you get intermittent noise, glitches, lock-ups, crashes, consider it may be due to your cheap MIDI USB cables.
A friend of ours who runs NXS 2000 and Ableton Push equipment found a brand that he swears by, and explained it changed his life at performances, since they eliminated the intermittent live performance issues he would have. He thought it was power or other related issues at certain venues, but they are now gone after going to high end USB cables, which he said he paid about $100 for each one.

I disagree with what you said about the USB. With the USB you get from Serato. You can notice the lag. When I upgraded my cable. There was zero lag. All my friends noticed the lag also. When they tried my system. They upgraded their USB.

agree 100% with you on that. I use only the NEO d+ cables for my soundcards. Its been the difference for me when it comes to cranking up the latency on Whatever software it is that I use. Especially with controllers like the ns7ii and DDJ-SZ it can be the difference when it comes to having audio dropouts. Not to mention that they fit much better than standard cables.

unless your cables break the laws of physics, this is impossible. using a different material inside would reduce "lag" by amounts of time that are so negligible you would not be able to perceive it (1000ths of a millisecond), think you've got a good ol' case of the placebo effect

Appreciate your videos man, but the thoughts about USB being 0's and 1's and it gets there or not a good argument. It actually misses the whole point of how those 0"s and 1's are trasnfered within the interconnects. ITs All electrical pulses representing the 0 and 1"s meaning USB is in most practical terms ANALOG. Therefore no surprise why so many sound so very different.

Does anyone get vinyl turntable hum when using the green/white rca cables. I changed to a pair of crap/cheap phono cables and no hum. I've read other people with the same problem but why would crap phono cables be better

One question. Do you know if using this analog cables with digital output from CDJ to DJM mixer is a good idea? I have heard that as long as the analog cable is equals or greater to 75 ohm you are good to go

How do you think 1s and 0s are transmitted in audio? Clearly you don't understand the difference between transferring files and data and transferring audio which is not sent by discreet packets that can't be resent, with errors corrected.

Cheers for the review! @DJcityTV with the DVS class X cables (for serato), would you recommend getting the 1.2m or the 2.1m? The 2.1m is only a couple of quid more but more importantly, will the extra length affect the quality at all?

+DJ Noriega Did you ever find out?
I was going to take the standard cables out of my 1200s, and solder in the Oyaide Neo d+ Series Class S.
I can't find anyone one else that has done that.

Have you tried these cables with regular turntables like the new Pioneer or Audio Technica´s? I have and i get a really annoying buzzing sound using these. Almost like there was no ground cable connected. With CDJs they work great...

    • @carlrowlinson2833

Did you try putting in a ground cable. These don't ground for you. You know that, right?

Well of course i have the ground cable connected, did you read my comment? These cables do not work with turntables - phono signal. Try and you'll see.

Not quite an accurate review on multiple accounts. Over 8’ of parading cheap cables. Digital audio signal is not just series of 1 and 0, sorry that’s grossly inaccurate. Timing of dig data packets is paramount; also there is no such thing as ones and zeros, it’s still analog with digital semantics. Stick to DJ-ing…

Huge waste of money..they stay in my bag as my back up back ups rca....they stick out way to much in battle style....and I have a buzzing noise when I use them with my str8 150s

    • @bc527c

Just curious, but wouldn't you perhaps think the buzzing sound means you have a malfunctioning cable and should, you know, replace it?
