    I busk with a Melodica and I always get a lot of interest when I pull out the Andes. It's a shame it's quite limited in range as the lower notes sound a lot sweeter than the higher. It's also a lot more complicated to play than a Melodica because of the careful breath regulation required to get an even tone.
    As for the "technical name", I call it a Fluboard 😂

    I personally would call this instrument a portativ. Similar instruments, albeit bellow blown, have been around for a long time, at least a 1000 years. I really like the sound. the fact that you mouth blow it allows for a lot of expression, although that is also quite possible with small hand operated bellows. Interesting that there is a little hole in the top of the caps, that makes these "flutes" reminiscent to the so called "roerfluit" (or Rohrflöte in German) organ pipe stop and that is clearly noticeable in the sound the make. It was a smart move too to choose this particular design, as the little hole will allow condensation to escape a bit more easily. I am worried somewhat about moisture building up in this instrument. Don't know how that it is managed, whether there is some kind of drain to let it out. I could see myself getting one and fabricate a small hand bellows for it to prevent that.

    It'd be so cool, if Suzuki would made a Version of this Instrument with a bigger range. I wonder why there aren't more "flute Keyboards"?

    • @NabPunk
      @NabPunk 24 дня назад

      Bigger range with lower notes would need bigger whistles, and that's why you don't see more of them, it won't be very practical to lug around a small organ or blow through it with your puny human lungs.

    maan I would love to have one of those. wind instrument fingering is always so confusing, but keyboards are straightforward as fuck.

    Why does it say in the title and thumbnail that this is by Yamaha? I mean, they both make motorcycles, but are hardly the same company.

    • @GoatTheGoat

      Yamaha is the world's largest manufacturer of pianos and electronic keyboards. The motorcycle business is secondary.

      @@banjoguyollie I know. It was intended as a bad joke. I remember explaining to somebody years ago about Yamaha being a musical instrument company. He seemed to think they only made motorcycles and outboard motors for boats. And I asked him, "What is their logo supposed to look like?" And he though for a while, and said "Some kind of star?" And I explained that it was three pitch forks crossed. A hint at their background as a musical instrument company. Apparently he'd never heard about that before.

    I could not quite make it out with your accent, are the caps on the tubes glued in place or no? If they are not glued in place how can they be gripped to pull them out? I would assume a pencil could push them in further.
    I would be very very interested in this instrument if I could change the tuning of the keys both up an down. Specifically to put the keyboard in Pythagorean tuning.

If it was all metal, sure, but that much plastic in something non-electronic... it's just hard to see the justification.

    I was thinking of trying to DIY one of these. Can you describe how each whistle is made? Is the air only coming out from the opening under the pad? Or are the tubes all open at the end where the black tuners are? Thanks for putting up this video. It's an intriguing instrument :)
