I am so glad you explained this. I always felt pushups in my shoulders even when I could do 50-60 at a time. I was taught to keep the shoulders pinched. My form is exactly like what we see @2:10. It will take a while to retrain this for sure but that is something I want to work on. Thank you so much Andrew
Brilliant content brother. I have noticed myself doing push ups and having my arms more tired than any pump on chest for quite some time. The squeeze and body positioning plus mind to muscle connection made it so much better! The rings are for sure the most amazing addition to my workouts. The movement of turning elbow forward or even crossing the rings under your chest at the top of the protraction gives an absolutely insane feeling and pump, and to say the least, allows more gains with less volume!
100%! That Ring turn out at the top - or crossover (If you can wrangle it) puts so much work on the bicep which is very important for stabilising pushing skills / exercises 👊🏿
What do i do i have scapular winging in my right scapula. I can feel my left chest working 100% but my right just not and its making me super worried. What should i do?
Holy bro, this was AWESOME! Ive been doing pushups for a month but never really felt my chest, but since im stronger now, with your help i was able to feel my chest like never before and REALLY push my limits today. Very underrated, straight to the point and extremely helpful!
This seems like fantastic advice, but makes me feel dumb as hell. I have not been training seriously for very long. Is there a guide for dummies please. I get the basics and am not a total novice, but some of the terms I am struggling with.
Hi, sorry it makes you feel that way, that wasn't my intention at all. I'm always happy to review form videos if you DM me on instagram. Failing that I have a full beginner programme here (for dummies): www.calitothecrowd.com/bodyweight-beginners
So with all my respect you are saying non sence since with a protraction you will feel your shoulders more however a find that working on a deficit ( exemple deficit push ups )might help to enhance chest activation due to my own experience but for strict beginners or personne who are over weight isolating the chest with push ups will be hard espacially if it's a lagging part So tell me a usable technique and exercices that will help those kind of people isolate there chest with bodyweight other than push ups And thank you
Decline push ups will only target the shoulders even more 🫠 As I explained in your other comment, the advice is there but we'll have to agree to disagree on your conclusion. Good luck with your training 💪🏿
But with the protraction you will feel your shoulders working more than the chest the chest is activated with a retracted scapula with the deppresed shoulders
Thank you sir, this helped me finally feel the mind muscle connection for my chest on push ups like never before! You are very knowledgeable and I wish you the best of luck in your career of educating others
thank you Andrew. recently i turned my paralletes outward for them to mimick the path a dumbbell would follow if one was doing DB presses. and the pump on my chest was crazy. factoring in all you said, because i am fan/advocate for the neutral grip in almost everything (shoulder health) i literally felt like i was doing dumbbell presses, aligning my wrists well and my shoulders down. thank you for this.
Thanks, Chris! With the dumbbell rows, have you tried dropping your shoulder into protraction at the bottom of the movement, and at the top, squeezing the arm close to your side as you pull your scaps into retraction?
I have a question, that im only feeling chest when im going up (like im squeezing the chest and focusing on biceps coming together) So am I doing them correctly ?
I was just curious do you mainly workout by yourself or do you got a gym partner cause I have felt over the years of working out on my own it’s been getting more boring every day and it can be unmotivating
I have a mix of both. I prefer using my home gym when it's hot weather. Also when I am in the early stages of trying to learn a new skill. But yeah I like training in a gym too as (I agree) It's very motivating 👊🏿
First thing people you got to ask yourselves these people on RUclips. What are their qualification? And what have they accomplished! This young man still in his twenties!
RUclips should be embarrassed how underrated this channel is
👊🏿
@@CaliToTheCrowdHey why did you punch him???

Listened to you while doing dew pushups to get the hang of it🙏🏽🙏🏽
Keep it up
I love this breakdown. Can you please do one for pull ups and lats? I have always struggled with that exercise
Incoming... watch this space!

This is so frustrating. Still can’t feel my chest. Just shoulders and triceps
Drop me a video on Instagram DMs and I'll assess your form 👊🏿

Im so grateful, this is the first time I feel my chest getting sore. I love it when I can do something perfectly and I will continue to do it.
This is brilliant! Keep the gains coming! 👊🏿
Just integrated the squeeze and my chest feeling the burn like never before after a single set. Good stuff!
That's quality!
Chest gains incoming!!!!
I feel back more than shoulders and chest what am I doing wrong??
1:40 "making the chest big and proud." THATS WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR STAY BIG AND PROUD PEOPLE
I Play Badminton, and if I do push ups I onely get a good Pump at the left side, is it because I use my right arm a lot ?
Tried this yesterday and think i injured my sternum , felt a very weird thing no Idea what it was but today still pain
Doing the "push up top hold" at 2:35 was it for me. It all made sense from there.
First time I ever felt soreness in the chest.
Glad it came through for you, Martin!
Chest gains incoming 👊🏿
Yo thanks man im bouta get some milkies 💪💪
But what about those half reps prison push ups!!!
This seems like fantastic advice, but makes me feel dumb as hell. I have not been training seriously for very long. Is there a guide for dummies please. I get the basics and am not a total novice, but some of the terms I am struggling with.

But with the protraction you will feel your shoulders working more than the chest
the chest is activated with a retracted scapula with the deppresed shoulders
You understand you only protract at the top of the movement, right?
Also your shoulders WILL be worked in push ups... It's a compound movement...
ive dont everything anyone says about it yes i still feel pain in my shoulders and no chest activation. Its angering me so much i hate it
That what happens to me
excellent video
Working towards to doing a full push up - could you give some tips on how to feel more chest in wall push ups or other variations? X
Thank you I can finally work my chest during pushups thank you

Anyone else watched like 6+ vids but still can’t feel your chest
find anything that worked??
hopefully this one!
I still cant feel my chest :( What do you mean by depressing your shoulders?
pulling your shoulders away from your ears 👊🏿
Ohhh so like adding depth to the pushup?@@CaliToTheCrowd
Really helpful video.
I got in the mood to advance my pushups.
Push ups will take you far!
Thank You very much
No worries! 👊🏿
Nice vid man💯🫶🏼

when you are pushing hands forward, the bottom tip of scapula is also pushing forward or is it a bit like anterior rotation of scapula?
So simple and effective !!
Incoming push up gains!! 👊🏿
Hi great videos, struggling with efficacy of a one arm dumbbell row ... Again not feeling the lats
Thanks, Chris!
With the dumbbell rows, have you tried dropping your shoulder into protraction at the bottom of the movement, and at the top, squeezing the arm close to your side as you pull your scaps into retraction?
Thank you! Straightforward! I was able to feel my chest more instantly!
Awesome, Randy 💪🏿
Bring on the push up gains man!!
I have a question, that im only feeling chest when im going up (like im squeezing the chest and focusing on biceps coming together)
So am I doing them correctly ?
You should feel push ups in your triceps too, but generally yes. Visualising your elbows coming together should help you with good form 👊🏿
@@CaliToTheCrowd
yes i can feel my triceps too and thank you for this video ✌️😊
Bro can you explain me how the core should feel while doing a pushup
If you focus on keeping a straight line from shoulder ls to feet throughout the rep, then your core is doing its job 👊🏿
I was just curious do you mainly workout by yourself or do you got a gym partner cause I have felt over the years of working out on my own it’s been getting more boring every day and it can be unmotivating

Do you recommend using Rings or parallettes when learning to do push ups?
Definitely recommend learning push ups on the floor, but if your wrists are a problem area then give parallettes a go
Thanl you brother🤙 my problem was fixed because of you🤟
You're welcome 😁
Thanks the shoulder and isometrics advice actually worked 👍
Happy to help! 💪🏿
WHAAAT IVE never been able to do them before
Happy to help! Push ups are great once you can get the most out of them! Hope the push up gains keep coming 💪🏿
Where can I get those things you’re doing elevated pushings on?
I got them on Amazon. Here's a link to them, enjoy!
