  • Recycling an old horsebox, and making use of a horse-drawn fore-cart.
We found that our 30 year-old horsebox was more rotten and rusted than it looked. Most of the damage was only visible when we took the top off and pulled up the floor boards. It was quite worrying to see the state of it -- even though it had looked reasonable on first inspection. Perhaps your horsebox is not as bad as this one, but maybe this video will encourage you to have another look.
We're going to use the top for a pig house, and had thought we'd re-use the chassis, tow-bar and axles to make a transporter for a four-wheeled carriage. As it turned out there wasn't a lot that was salvageable..
The horses are Irish cobs (Winnie and Henry).

REPURPOSE, REPURPOSE, REPURPOSE!!! the motto of my life! Not always easy, but much better than it going to landfill. That salty air must wreak havoc on your metals. Welding is something I'd like to learn. Can't wait to see how you recreate the cart.

Aw, that beautiful old box was still repairable ! It's a Rice, isn't it ? I wish I could find one down here ! But the pigs diserve a home, so...
I do the same kind of work here in Italy, always fiddling with grinder and welder to build horse implements.

Bobocanenero Sadly the top was picked up in a storm and lifted over a fence and ended up in a hedge. but it's being recycled still, into smaller things. (Hoping to use some of it today, in fact - watch this space!)
we'd be interested to see how you're getting on in Italy - any videos?
