I've used these common AliExpress carbon seatposts for years on all my bikes. I'm 6ft4 and not light and they have served me well. One failure, this summer. Saddle started rocking and the rear bolt had broken and damaged the carbon. 2012 I put it on. I adjust my saddle a lot due to back problems so I'm not surprised. It didn't fail dangerously, enough warning things were going south. I fitted a new one. They seem to have beefed up that rear section.
Remark :the aluminium seatpost you used previously is unsafe because the rail clamping area is too short for carbon rails You should have used a saddle with metallic rails
What's the point of 4 piston calipers on a road bike? It just adds weight, complexity, cost, and it might wear down the brake rotor faster. Bigger floating rotors make more sense. Also, i will never use integrated stem handlebar.

Loved the GCN HQ bit. Having said that, I did just buy 105 hydraulic, so can't really talk... 🥖 x 8. Didn't you show a 3d printed saddle in a previous video? How did that work out?
My identical frame set and wheels bike I finished last March after 2 years build ,rides very well. Look at your front and rear frame covered in crud from the wheels. I ran clear 3M tape from under headset down frame and under BB, also down the wheel side of the rear frame. That shot blasting will ruin surface of carbon and allow moisture to work its devilish way. 3M tape I used as a chain stay protector too.
I also bought a 'cheap' aero frame on AliExpress. I had to re-engineer the head to stop it coming loose, using wood filler. The front shifter cable wasn't properly supported at the bottom bracket area, and the wire started cutting into the frame. I could've taken the BB bearings out and re-routed the cable under the bearings and drilled a hole down at a near-vertical angle so that the wire probably wouldn't cut into the carbon fibre. But I decided to go 1x11 instead. In that set-up it works fine now. But I've also recently modernized a 1980s steel frame Nishiki Olympic with brifters and 2x9 speed. I finished the year riding the Nishiki preferentially. It's a couple of kg heavier but that isn't really detectable while riding. Riding with a steel frame just feels like riding a real bike.
Hey Luke, do you ever worry that something will snap before a visible warning crack appears? I think it would just spoil my enjoyment constantly worrying that the bars could shear off at any moment.
Yeah so it's a good question, but no not really. Carbon fibre is more like wood when it fails, it won't necessarily just snap instantly into two pieces. It tends to splinter like a piece of wood, so you can often feel it splintering before it fails entirely.
@@TraceVelo I speak as a an Olympic/Paralympic mechanic, I've seen failures that come with no warning, and I do worry. You've got such a lovely face....!
Ok fair enough, you sound far more qualified than me!! 😂 I think it does depend on the use case aswell tbh. I mean I would argue they are fine for the average cyclist, but if you are an Olympic athlete you should prob spend more than £60 on a set of handlebars. I take your point tho, you do need to be careful with this stuff, hence the importance of the first 500 miles.
@@TraceVelo keep up the reviews though. Besides the generic frames/wheels/bars etc, I find the groupset development parts far more interesting. A 25mm 40mm+ is massive and highlights the marketing B/S based on that. However, is that relevant with a aliexpress frame that is from a non-mainstream builder. That has no real real world continuity between frames (perceived)?
RXL SL isn't a brand or manufacturer, it's a knockoff logo for Bontrager. I don't know why you subject yourself to these bars. Even if they were brilliant, you can't pin down who made them, and it's such a detail-sensitive part that the next set could just as easily be trash. Very hard to recommend something if you can't have confidence your viewers will have the same experience.
Safety critical equipment is designed with a large margin of excess load, generally like 5x the load its going to experience in the real World. The cracked stem could not have underwent any testing and was definetly not compliant with acceptable standards in the Western World. That was a deathtrap, a broken stem at 35 mph could result in death. I guess the philosophy of the idiots manufacturing that stuff, is that bikes are not that much of an issue concernig public safety, if it looks good it will sell. Its a differrence of cultures, stay safe, just pay for Shimano and you know you have the best.
that's unfortunate to hear about the rxl sl bar. I agree the design is shit on that bar. However, I purchased one of their traditional bars (non-integrated) and it is going exceptionally well after 500 miles of abuse. It is their super lightweight model, it weighs 180g so I was kind of expecting it to crack but its taken sprinting and everything just fine. I didnt use a torque wrench, i just tightened it in increments until the bar could no longer be rotated in the stem (I used a lot of force to test). Generally, I think the one piece integrated bars are a no-go but the regular ones seem good, mainly because it seems they present less engineering problems.
i wonder how long it woul long if 110 kG monster of a guy sat on it... Grats to all 60 70 kg guys wh ocan sit on shitty bikes which survives ok udner them :) Great video as usual. Thanks. Ah, wanted to suggest the tape too for creaking :)
Just one honest question, please: Is there any warranty or disclaimer on those parts? If a person is injured or dies from an handlebar\fork\seatpost failure... thats it? Cheers and thank you.
The 'disclaimer' for parts of an unknown quality is good common sense. It's very unlikely that in this case the retailer will openly admit to probable parts failure resulting in injury or death...they just wouldn't sell anything. As for a warranty, well if it breaks you contact the retailer and show proof of failure. Then just hope they refund your money. It's another matter if you are injured or killed. There is very little legal recourse when buying from this type of retailer. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 and The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (for purchases made before 1 October 2015) says that any goods you buy must be: Of satisfactory quality, fit for any particular purpose made known to the seller and as described. But I don't think aliexpress is overly concerned about that. It's a issue if you have some form of bike insurance that covers personal injury. Fitting what could possibly be sub-standard parts, knowingly, may void any claim made.
Thank you for enlightening. I´m still amazed such business can operate in EU whilst if I, as an EU resident, provide any kind of service or product have to go through a very strict scrutiny.
@@wsbygt E-retailers in the far east don't operate within any EU territories...They are based and supply from outside any legal frame work that protects the rights of the end consumer. The laws of one country or state do not impact the actions of another if no treaty exist. This is the ultimate expression of 'Caveat Emptor'.
Now I know why my old steel bikes are faster than most of the new fancy carbon Roadies. I can smash on them as hard as I want without fear of anything breaking.
Got an aeronova integrated cockpit and applied a lot of force by hand and it broke😱 I contacted the seller he refund me but I do not trust that brand anymore

Another 'CRACKING EPISODE'! Thanks Luke.
My recommendation for non-cracking bars are ones made by EC90. 2k miles on mine, still super lovely smashin' smooth!
Yeah I have heard good things about EC90 stuff... 🤔
So, short version: Chinese manufacturers are perfectly capable of CNC machining aluminum, but they're terrible at laying up carbon fiber.

Nice to see an honest review without any BS. Have a baguette or 2 🥖🥖
My identical frame set and wheels bike I finished last March after 2 years build ,rides very well.
I guess you'll be trying to get your hands on one of the new full hydraulic groupsets that have just been released. Will be interesting to see if the OE market starts to tap into these cheaper alternatives. We were building bikes with Microshift 12 years ago, but it was pretty small scale tbh (working at Moda bikes at the time).
Another great video, entertaining as ever. 🥖🥖🥖.However i am not really sure how you fixed the seat clamp by putting packing around the bottom of the seat post.🤔

So LTWOO apparently offers its first real hydraulic groupset now. For under 200usd msrp it looks like a total steal.
Any chance you can get one for a review?
They cost 500 eur right now in Aliexpress. 200 quid is well, a dream for now...
Top video as always 👍🏻 I've tried a couple of AliExpress carbon handlebars and had problems with them all, so now use a name brand handlebar.
Yeah the last few bars i had from AliExpress have been a bit crap tbh... Time to explore some slightly more premium options I think!
How is that gravel bike build working out? Haven't heard anything since you built it?
Yeah good question. So still going strong actually, just havent had much opportunity to get out on it recently... Really need to change that, it's such a nice bike to adventure out on!
Which 12 speed groupo have you liked better. Sensah or Ltwoo?
These TPU inner tubes only last about 2500km then it starts leaking like a sieve. 10 patches later, I gave up on them
🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖Actually very interesting the difference in stack between the two bikes.
The Italian's often used to say what looks right, is right. The opposite is also true mate
that's unfortunate to hear about the rxl sl bar.

Just one honest question, please:
Is there any warranty or disclaimer on those parts?
If you buy through Ali Express you can raise a dispute if the seller does not provide quality goods
