Love me some Gladys Knight & The Pips TO DEATH!!!! I'm glad I got to see them perform when I was a youngster and if I don't have everything they made I definitely have the majority of it! Glad to see that they were all alive to accept this award!
Yesss! you are so right!!! YES long over due for her not being honored for an 8 year old young girl, from the south, pre civil rights era, winning the grand prize in America on a nationally acclaimed successful talent show, beating out all her caucasian competition at every level and for the beautiful awesome journey she accomplished with the pips and on her own and a plus, has kept her humility that her mom, Elizabeth instilled in her👑❤🙏
They were SO GOOD, Diva Diana Ross kicked them out as the Supremes opening act because she was jealous and didn't like how the crowds responded to their soulful singing. Listen to Midnight Train to Georgia after they left Motown. No "wall of sound", just a 4-piece backup band and straight vocals, with orchestration added here and their for punctuation and opening hook. No autotune and analog tape. They were that good.
You're so right at age 8 gladys won the grand prize on a national televised amateur show. July 1 1952 the Ted mack amateur hour long before the civil right's movement. the lovely charming little gladys knight rose over and over again to crush the competition 1st time. 2nd time, 3rd time grand prize this little young African American from the south Atlanta Georgia, beating out her white competition, with charm, talent and her mother's prayers,,who wrote to Ted mack about gladys God given talent,'s that opened up the door for her to be on the show

Did I miss something??? What does Mariah have to do with Gladys and the Pips???
@@bd3825 I mean, she’s present. So??
@@bd3825 she was the one who gave the speech to Induct them and presented them with the award
What does that have to do with this video?
@@Sttephy30 Mariah introduced Gladys and gave a nice speech before Gladys started speaking
Wow! Ed was only in his late 50s here😢. That’s relatively young.

Now why didn't The Shirelles get that type of response when that made their way to the stage?
