- She's up and running well, but the brake pedal irritates me the way it rattles fore and aft as she runs down the road. I came up with an easy and logical fix. Let's do it.
Great idea Mike !
Thank You.
My 1950 Panhead is also called "Baby Doll." I got her in '62, when the movie had come out, and the song was playing on the local radio station. I once had a girlfriend, who at one point asked me, "Now am I Baby Doll No.1?" I just changed the subject... That was a long time ago. I still have Baby Doll No. 1.
Cool.
Greetings and Salutations! Those type things have a habit of driving me nuts, too! Problem solved!
You bet.
Sweet update! That's a really great switch of parts, sure it'll look fantastic when chromed. Thanks Mike.
Thank You.
Well great update there brother Mike thanks for this have to see if this will work on my build and Happy holidays
Thanks, you too!
I like the combination of Cadmium and parkerized parts, with limited strategically placed chrome. Really makes old bikes pop!
Combination that works with your thoughts is the way to do it.
Greetings from So Oregon Mike cold and raining here i really enjoy your vides so simple and laid back im 70 and ride 1990 heritage, old iron isso cool harley built them to be rebuilt forever! Bushings zerk fittings all the things a proper bike should have, im working a deal with a family member for a 1952 pan they said will need alot of tlc been sittin for 20 plus years they are sending photos and a price soon keep up the great work brother
Very cool! Let us know how it works out. Baby Doll is a 52 Pan.
Beautiful reproduction piece. Used to love flipping through the huge V-twin catalog.
Same here!
Made me smile I thought I was the only none who gets paranoid when the run too well😁 great video guys. She is looking sweet
Thank You.
Mike always has a pristine immaculate blue denim shirt that never has a spot of grease on it. How can that be?
I put on a shirt before we run the camera. I'm not exactly a fashion model, you know.
nice solution there Mike. That will make you a happy boy I'm sure. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Cool! See you soon!!
This happens to be one of my pet peeves. I hates rattles, most of all on motorcycles. But I love seeing you smile in satisfaction of a job well done.
Thank You.
Got 2 shirts! You weren't kidding. They both look great!! I'm inspired now and searching for a mousetrap for my clutch.
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice, some "chrome for the holidays"
Thanks for sharing this little trick.
You bet!
I’ve only ever ridden one Harley. The one I currently own. 1997 evo. Quite the love affair lol. I appreciate your videos!
Cool. Thank You very much.
It's the little things like a rattling pedal that bug me and detract from my riding experience. Not a big deal, but that's how I am. I've gotten my pan bobber almost there, but my shift pedal rattles. I need to find some bronze bushings at the local Ace that are close in size and then press them in and hone to fit. It's a GMA and has no bushings, just steel on steel, and it's worn really sloppy. I might drill it and tap for a Zerk fitting, too. Glad you're really enjoying the knuck, and thanks for another cool video. Nice trick with the WL pedal.
Thank You.
In this age of mobile computer networks disguised as motorcycles, with EFI, layers of touchscreen menu options, Sat Nav, riding mode presets and proximity radar, it's good now and then to see that there are still just plain old motorcycles.
At some point we'll be sending our "motorcycles" out on trips by themselves, while we watch from home on our full-emersion, virtual reality headsets, convincing ourselves that we're really outside having fun.
I don't know what to say. I think I'll just stick with my rellics.
That's a crazy easy fix. Why hasn't everyone always done this?
Like I said, "It's pretty hard to come up with something new." So who knows how many paople have come up with it?
It works for me.
Happy trails, Cowpoke
Backatcha.
Mike, just an idea to tweak the upgrade; how 'bout a thin strip of leather between the lever stop and the collar? Might help prevent rust and be a bit quieter.
I've already done this on my Panhead. It is totally silent and due to being lubed, it doesn't rust.
It's great to see you tonight hope you had a great thanksgiving yesterday. To me every day is thanksgiven ha ha ha. Im thinking you can't leak brake fluid everywhere it's mechanical 😊. Run faster and jump higher😊. Can't see good was the brake pedal dark green? Military 45? Wheel sprocket 51 tooth? Engine 24? Transmission 25. I was just curious mostly about the wheel sprocket. And the reason I don't run a speedometer either. 😎
I'm only about fifteen hundred miles to the big pond over there. I'm thinking stopping and smoking a cigarette and gas. Fifteen hours I could be there. Give or take a few minutes 😂 Have a good one. Brothers ✌️
Thanksgiving? You bet I'm thankful. Thanksgiving is really special. Hope yours was great. You are right. My mechanical brakes don't leak. The brake pedal is "parkerized." Look it up. Sounds like you're having a good time. I'm for it.
Thumbs up easy fix
Yes, thanks
Hope life is good
When you tell people people don't want to see me do that your wrong you are a reality star man people want to see you do it all keep up the good videos hope eyes are good
Thank You.
Great upgrade Mike. I actually like the Parkerized finish on the Brake Pedal. 👍✌️🇨🇦
Some do some don't. It certainly is an option.
Ahh, so endeth the toe-tapping pedal, it's rhythm now collared at birth,
with a nice new shoulder to lean on, so quelling the brake rodded mirth.
Shoe springs & cam faces adore you, for 'damping' that pedal was hard,
& thanks to a lengthy old link rod, the wobbles increased by the yard!
So farewell, you foot-dancing nuisance, your efforts were well out of touch,
& although our Michaels' may miss you, rest assured that it won't be by much.
(A clear & very cold Nov. evening, as the forest sheds the last of her summer gown. . . . Y'all : )
And, you've done it again. English was my best subject. I wish you had been my teacher. Thank You.
My words are but the weep in pushrod tubes, so corked in lieu of more worthy prose : )
That is "Tubular," Man.
Thanks for this! Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!
I did. I hope yours was great.
i love that bike Mike!
Thank You.
So the issue with the top end over oiling and lack of vacuum was worn out valve guides. I was in the shop the other day and I was cold, well chilly. So used to triple digits anything below 80 is cold. Later my friend.
Actually, I hadn't been there before. The exhaut guides werte not tight to begin with. She got a whole new set of carefully fitted guides and should be fine now. So far, so good.
Cool video neat up grade.
Thank You.
The break caliper on my 76 fxe made all kinds of racket. I found an aftermarket caliper and mounting bracket. Wallerd out in about 6 months. Oh well.
If you look at my 77 Shovelhead on our RUclips channel, you'll see, I modified and mounted all newer calipers.
If you go to pacific mike youtube channel and type into the search bar, a couple or three different titles, some videos come up that may inspire you:
Part 1, Installing a new rear chain on a Harley Davidson Shovelhead
Harley Davison FL front end, mounting new front wheel.
Harley Davidson Shovelhead build continues, seeing assemblies still exposed.
Happy Thanksgiving Guys...
Same to you!
Thank you
You're welcome
It’s the little things that matter
Apparently so.
If the spring was on it, it wouldnt rattle. Drill a hole thru your mid-way foot peg mount like the original floorboard bracket has and voila!
The stop is really nice. I've done it so many times and ways. That stop on the 45 pedal is the best I've ever tried.
Thank you for the great videos. You do things exactly the way my dad taught me. I have a 1956 pan 6vdc I have been fighting for years. It wants 20 to 30 kicks and I cant quite handle that. It has a cv carb which I think is a big part of the issue. A new cv will be i stalled in the spring. My question for now is it has a round dual coil which I suspect is 12vdc. Are coils and condensers the same for 6 and 12 vdc systems?
Could be your problem. 6 volt coils are definitely different than 12's. Condensers don't know the difference.
Just bought a tube of Lucas White Litium Grease 😊
You're gonna like it.
Ur so lucky.. u git everything 😂😂😂
Ain't luck. It's a lifelong investment. But, I do feel quite fortunate.
Love the bike great job . I was just wondering , how far can you ride with that fuel tank . Being 72 years old I remember the gas crunch of the 70s and riding with a 2.2 sporty tank . Thank you .
The bike makes excellent gas mileage and I've actually ridden it 80 miles before stopping. But, at my age, on a rigid, I stop fairly often these days. The tank is, I believe, 2 1/4 gallons.
Thank you , I was just wondering . Here in Tenn. back road gas station can be far and few between ,@@pacificmike9501
I recently powered a scythe with a chainsaw engine. Works great. Trade ya my motor sickle for yours?
Thank You.
I remember when I used to drink the b*ng water too.
Mike, can you make a short video on how you broke in your knucklehead please? It sounds like you're already rippin' around on it. Thanks!
I just take it easy for a while. Vary the RPM's up and down the scale, but nice and easy. Get her nice and warm, then let her cool down completely and then retorque the heads and barrels. Do this 3 or 4 times, then , after about a few hundred, do it again. Change your oil and go play.
thanks
You're welcome!
"45" restoration company sells that pedal in chrome for $70.00
Cool. Thank You.
How about an old jiffy stand piece of rubber that used to adhere to lower primaries for the top off the brake stop. Just in case that starts chattering after it " breaks in,"?
They don't. This really works well.
👍👍
Thank You.
Did the head work fix the oil sumping issue you originally had and can you recap for me what the fix was? Thanks
She needed a coupld ovalve guides that had come loose. When the guides come loose, the tins are no longer captured and leaks are from everywhere on top.
Mike can i use shovel engine gaskets on an 1340 evo ? Ps , i do relize the rocker box.gaskets would be different, what do you know 👀🤣, ,apparently the evo sporster rocker covers will fit a 1340 evo 😊?^, id like to know 👍
Shovelhead and Evo gaskets do not interchange, except for early Evo cam cover gasket. None of those other things interchange.
I have a 96 inch shovelhead with a belt primary one chain final drive. If I ran a 40 tooth front pulley, what size transmission sprocket and wheel sprocket would I run in your opinion? I half mountain half highway. I like to cruise at 75
Don't know what belt drive you have. Probably only need a trans sprocket and rear wheel change. Sounds like you want to go pretty high. How about a 24 on the trans and a 49 on the wheel? Don't know your size or much else. This should get you close. It's always an experiment.
What happened to the flat head project?
All the other things that had to be addressed. It's called "life." We'll get back to it.
Hey Mike I'm buying my first Evi and I wanna build the motor and get some power any contacts or info u got that could help me
They are everywhere. Easy hop up.
Does that bike run without air filter?
Yes. I'm bad.
Taiwan Teddy to the rescue!
