My sons girlfriend did my family tree and took it back to the 1200’s. I am a Ross, and my family are direct descendants from Catherine Ross of Balnagown. I found out so much history. It was so amazing to hear the stories. And we ended up in the United States as my descendant was put on a slave ship and sent over to America to begin building colonies in Pennsylvania in the early 1500’s long before the country formed. So I am a direct descendant of a slave. And although I like to kid that I am from royalty I guess that would be indirectly as Catherine was the king’s second wife.

I am from Lancaster, Pennsylvania and my name is Bell. My Great Grandmother Bell's Mother was a Nancy Jane Ross, born in Maryland and her Father's name was Reason Ross, who fought in the Civil War. Reason Ross died in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His Daughter, Nancy Ross Styer married Hiram McVey and they had 10 children, the oldest being my Great Grandmother, Frances Delphine McVey Bell. Nancy and Hiram both passed in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Reason Ross was born about 1822.

I'm a Ross and Irving by descendant on my fathers side. My fathers' aunt had said there was a castle and I had a geneology service tell me there was no such place but I kept searching and in recent years there was a Scottish event locally where there were clans attending among them were Ross and got to meet some cousins. They also had a photo of the castle. My search started with a copy of my relatives wedding certificate from 1850 of one William Barton Irving and Margerate Ross.

My Great Grandmother was Rachel Ross. All I know is her family disowned her because she married beneath her. My Aunt said Ross Scotland was named after our family. Is this the same family spoken about here?

Otherway around, the Chief of the Great Clan Ross the 4th Earl of Ross Hugh Ross was 1st to take on the Surname for the Realm he Ruled, this is well before the advent of Surnames. Ross was a protected name by law after the advent of Surnames.

Don't forget there are still Nugents in that part of Meath, near Oldcastle (and originally from Cormeen, Castlerahan, Co. Cavan, nearby)! So the Black Baron is the nickname of the Second Earl of Westmeath, and the story of Orwen and Sabina can be dated quite exactly to 1652/3, the time when the Earl had made his peace with Cromwell but when the O'Reillys were still holding out. The Nugents of Ballinlough Castle Co. Westmeath are originally O'Reilly, and the Clonin Castle is in Delvin. Anyway nice video and obviously great castle!

How does that make it the Ross castle?

It was Located in a Town called Ross, I'll assume the Town was probably unnamed Ross. Ross' are Scottish, and we got a fixing for some of Ireland, and decided to Help the English Occupy the Place a Little Bit, and went around naming places after ourselves....
