Which channels are you using the external amplification for, Front L&R and Center?, or.... I'm working towards upgrading my system, and am using a similar approach, looking for a deal for a year old model. Most likely going to try to find a deal this winter on something like a Denon AVR-S750H or AVR-X1500H. The 1500 is for sale right now for $299. As far as higher end stuff, seems the X3600H is about the best value right now....maybe a few years down the road I will think of upgrading to something that will do more than 7 channels, and give the old one to one of my kids. For now I am working on having a better 5.1 than what I have now, and also something that sounds better for music, even if that means adding a pair of "B" spealers for music. I removed some LARGE speakers from my living room due to space and a new furniture arrangement. Looking into some nicer bookshelf speakers, likely with 6-8" drivers.... or possibly a pair of powered studio monitors. For my budget, I'm considering Polk T15 x4 for surrounds, T30 center, and a sub.... maybe Klipsch for the "B" speakers, haven't found too many other options. No floor standing towers in this space, and for now no 7.1 or Atmos.. I have a music/hobby room with 2ch stereo setup, 4x large speakers... not audiophile by any means... so this doesn't have to be an ultimate setup for music, it just has to be better than the 90s Sony 5ch amp and Bose Acoustimass 10 that I have now... Any input would be most welcomed.
I have gone through quite a journey with my theater. I started with a 5.1 channel AVR then upgraded to a 11 channel unit with 9 channels of amplification. I jumped up to 7.x.4 by using a small 50x2 amp for 2 of the Atmos channels. Then I upgraded the amp to a Crown which I used to power the L and R which the other 9 channels were on the AVR. And then I upgraded to an external 7 channel amp and have my 4 atmos channel on the AVR now. There are lots and lots of way to crack the nut. FOr you, the important feature I would look for is a 5 or 7 channel AVR is RCA outputs for all channels. This will allow you to use external amplification for whatever you want to do. My old 5 channel Onkyo has no RCA out... so its quite limited for upgrades. I am a big fan of the bookshelf + subwoofer set up. Check out my 600m set up video to see what I did with a pair of those bookshelf speakers and a 12" subwoofer. Let me know how I can help!

Hej man. Nice theater you get there, i just buy a denon 4500 . Amazing!! Keep going .good job!!
That's great! I believe that one will support THX Ultra. Enjoy that!
I guess your rack is: The Middle Atlantic Rack RCS-4224, and well ... What I can say ?? It's beautiful!!!!!
Thanks! It has worked out really well. The only change I made was to add a little rubber at the door edges to stop resonance from the subwoofers :-)

I need to get my hands on that receiver :)
I like it quite a bit!

You got it!
