I miss the days of sitting in turn 4 at the Port, getting nailed with clumps of dirt, watching these guys go at it. I haven't been back since I left for the Air Force in 1984. Thanks for sharing, it brought back lots of great memories...

Woe how awesome. I was definitely there for that race. I would have been 7 at the time. I started going to Port when I was 3 I believe. I could name every driver when I was 5. My Dad and I had reserved seats in the concrete bleachers. 49 50 and 51 for years. My Dad and I made it to The World Of Outlaws Saturday night this year. It was awesome to be back there with the old man. Wow that Macri can drive. He reminds of how awesome Keith Kauffman was back in the day. The Speed Palace will always be my favorite track. 😍

Great race. Love the way they moved around looking for more speed adjusting their entry and run off the corners. No denying Wolfgang was a force but Keith was a great talent in his own right.

I had the pleasure of seeing Doug Wolfgang do what he does best, in the very early 1980s at the old Parramatta City Raceway, in Sydney, Australia.
And if I remember correctly, a very young Jac Haudenschild was also on a three Man team with him, but I'm not sure if the third Man that year was Steve Kinser or not. It may have been Jimmy Sills, it's been so long, and there's been so many talented American drivers come out over the year's, racing Sprintcars, Midgets and Super Sedans (not really late models but all 360 cubes) racing things like Chevy Stingrays, T-Birds, things like that.
But not nowadays, everyone racing an out of the box "Late Models", the only way to tell them apart is by number or sponsor, and that's a damn shame!!

Port still ran big motors until 1987 that's why they dropped out of the Pabst point series for 86. They gave in to Hamalton, Weikert, Morral, Dyer and a few other Big Car owners, that wanted to use the 430s and 467 motors they already had . in fact Nace and Wolfe left port after the 85 season over the deal .
