Time travel and plan with me! Today we are flipping thru vintage sewing pattern catalogs like they did in the 1950s and 1960s. Let’s see what treasures we can find! This is part of my four season vintage capsule wardrobe series where I will be sewing a capsule wardrobe from true vintage sewing patterns.

Dear Cindy, your production values are impeccable!
Wow, thank you!
My grandmother, who was born in the late 1800's, talked about how excited the women of the family would get when the Sears and Roebuck catalog came. Theyn would look at all the dresses then figure out how to cut and sew them. Them ordered the fabric from the catalog to make the dresses.
Aw that sounds wonderful! I dream of having friends irl to spend the day doing things just like that. Mulling over vintage fashion and fabrics and sewing together 😍 Thank you for sharing ❤️
@@CindyLeauxYou are speaking my language. I have no sewing friends "irl"....oh well. YT sewing companions it is then.
You'll have to enjoy the jasmin breeze for me - up here in Canada we're still stuck in the cold. Ah well. Time to cosy up with a blanket and enjoy some time travel and vicarious shopping (in the confines of my head I call it "shopping the century"). I have a small collection of catalogues from the 1930's. Damn, but the Grannies dressed well...

Oohhh 1930s catalogs? What a treasure! Sending warmth & sunshine your way 🏖️☀️✨
Petticoat season! Hip ruffles! I’m here for it! I’ve never sewn or seen an Advance pattern in real life - here’s hoping someday!
Had no idea these Advance patterns were unprinted. So this will be a new learning experience haha I can film the sewing of it in detail & maybe you’ll be able to make some too if you’d like 🥰
@@CindyLeaux Sounds like fun! I sure do hope Father Time comes through for us! Hope you have a great weekend!
Fingers crossed, lol. Ty & have a lovely weekend as well! 🥰❤️
You habe such a lovely collection of catalogs. I always enjoy your flip throughs. The green dress with the cape type shoulder detail was gorgeous. 🌻🍄
Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoy 🥰 Yes, it was such a lovely shade of green 🍃🌸
just clicked over into autumn here in Australia. Always a sad time for me :( PS. Loved going through these catalogs with you! 50s/early 60s was such a great time for design in women's clothes
Aw so sorry to hear. I hope this Autumn is different & peace & happiness finds you this year 💕✨
thanks Cindy, I just have a preference for warmer weather@@CindyLeaux
It's Spring here in California 75 degrees Fahrenheit today. Flowers are blooming and the grass and the trees are green. I love Spring and Autumn summer here is too hot!! 110 in the shade. Probably parts of Australia is very hot in the summer. My brother lives in Brisbane from the UK. I love the catalogs as well but I have trouble finding Bust size 40 vintage patterns.
yes we've had a very humid summer here in Sydney, but I suffer through it lol. I hear you oj the larger patterns being harder to find!@@Catsface99
I really enjoy your videos! They’re so peaceful and the concept is so clever! You have made me realize that I will need to make a petticoat at some point. And as far as colors, many moons ago I had mine done. In that particular system, I was a spring. While I liked all my colors and looked for them, I found it confining to always feel I “had” to work with them.
Thank you 🙏 🥰 I'm so glad you’re enjoying! I am currently deciding on a color palette for this capsule and was starting to feel a bit cramped as well, so I get it. Now I’m just picking colors that make me happy.
I just ordered a petticoat pattern from Simplicity. I'd hoped to get one in my daughters' size but they're out of stock. I did order one in my size anyway.
@johannaholmgren8088 ohhh which one from simplicity?
So excited for some time traveling!!!
yay! 😍❤️❤️
What pen are you using, its lovely!
Thank you! I’ve been trying to find pattern books for JC Penny to help me date catalog my Advance patterns and didn’t realize they went by Penny’s before adding the JC. 💕 I was able to find and purchase 2 from the 50s as well. You should add dates to the patterns on Vintage Pattern Wiki if you come across some without the proper dates.
Love your channel and look forward to you putting together your wardrobe!
You are so welcome! I will definitely check that out and see if I can help update dates in any way. I’m glad you’re here on this journey with me. Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰
Amei as inspirações, esperando os vídeos de costura 18:36 😊🥰
Thank you so much - more soon 😍🥰
Oh for ....even with notifications on, I missed your video??? Excuse me a moment, I'm going to hyperventilate in the corner...
Okay that's better
Oh man. How did you ever find such treasures?? I could look through pattern catalogues for hours, and that's just the present day versions!!! You lucky girl!!
Same!! Haha glad the algorithm brought you back here 🥰❤️
Happy Spring! 🌸
Thank you for always make so inspiring relaxing videos 💕
I wonder what is an instant pattern 🤔, but, sound fun 😊
Can't wait to see the time travel ordering magic 🤩
Have a great weekend 🩷
Yay! I’m so happy you’re enjoying! The instant pattern looked so cool. Hopefully the time machine will bring us one and we get to try it! 🥰 Have a lovely weekend as well! ❤️
My understanding is that an instant patterns had all the pieces laid out on one piece of tissue so that you could put it on your fabric and just cut everything out, without cutting out each separate piece first. (If that makes sense😊). I guess it makes it instant in that it saved some time.
@@paulahaven4139 thanks for the info 💕 I had no idea 🫣
Happy to share! I’m looking forward to seeing if Father Time bestows a factory folded instant pattern on Cindy. 🤞🏻😀
Yes fingers crossed!!🥰❤️
Omg what a fun video! And the mailing off moment at the end was too cute. If only we could really do that! 😭 Can’t wait for your next video!
P.S: loved the use of cursive writing on everything. Just like a true vintage housewife would have!
Thank you so much! Using your imagination to go back in time was so fun as a child and I figured it would be such a fun concept to play with as we build this capsule wardrobe. I’m so glad you’re enjoying! 🙏❤️
I’ve considered reaching out to the marketing teams to see if they have archives of their pattern books.
@@WitchStitchRachel Nice! If you found out anything please lmk 🥰❤️ It would be so interesting!
I really want to make that blue dress from the other video but i don't know where or how to get it 😢🥺🥺🥺
There’s a reproduction of it being sold on Etsy ~ search Simplicity 4968 and it should pop up. Hope it helps! ❤️
58 yards of ruffles is my guess! 😂
lol! that’s actually a solid guess 🤣
Cindy, what's the date on the Simplicity catalog at 14:44? Can't quite see it
That’s Spring/Summer 1962 ❤️
no that's the McCall's one. The one after that with a dark dress and a red dress with Petersen's at the foot of the page at 14:44 time stamp. Could be 1954? @@CindyLeaux
@@kckazcoll1 That’s a 1954 Simplicity pamphlet. “Fashion Preview January 1954”
Can you help me? I am from Iraq and I would like to buy these books. Where can I find them?
These are vintage. You can search antique stores, estate sales, eBay etc
