    I think it's important to point out that many Daiwa spinning reels are meant, designed to have a reverse taper line lay. It's called ABS or ABS II. So if you have a Daiwa with that, don't shim your reel if it has a reverse taper - you're good to go!

      I am not too familiar with Daiwa tech, so this might be useful to daiwa users out there so thanks for your contribution, Anders!

      @@NoName-yi3oz Google Daiwa ABS or ABS II or take a look at 6:47. That spool has a line lay with "reverse taper". A level line lay would be a line evenly distributed on the spool. Most modern Shimanos should be like that (carp spinning reels aside) Many Daiwa LT reels with ABS II does however have a "reverse taper" design.
      Generelly, if you have issues with line management on any spinning reel it might be s good idea to shim the reel, add or remove a tiny spacer on the spool shaft in order to change the line lay to improve line management.

    Hey kit, how many shim or spacer you usually put to make the line perfectly distributed on the spool?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 года назад +2

      it depends on how bad the tapering is. In my case with the vanquish (and probably majority of the reels out there) I only needed one spacer, since the line lay isn't that bad.

      Try with one first....in most cases it fixes it. IF not, then put on another one. but start with one.

    Thank you for your video, do you have an idea on how to deal with uneven spool that is curved in the middle? The top and the bottom spool is even but the middle is somehow curved in. I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you 🙏🏽

    What if you have a mass produced reel that came with the rod from a big box store? What can you use for a spacer?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  4 месяца назад

      you can try looking for reels of the same make that are broken and use spacers from there. gear of that level...kinda not really worth it...

    Any recommendations on how to fix line lay that is an hourglass shape? I have one reel were the line is thicker on both ends but thinner in the middle. I tried using the shims but it couldn’t fit it.

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 года назад +1

      if the middle is the problem, then take all the shims off and check each of them, there might be one in there that is warped.

  • @HAcera-hs3hw
    @HAcera-hs3hw 2 года назад

    Did you say that the solution is to REMOVE spacers? I thought you would have to ADD spacers so the spool is physically higher on the shaft and more line is wound closer to the bottom (evenly) on the spool. Thanks!

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 года назад +2

      I said, if it tapers down you add a shim, if it tapers up (bunching up on the bottom of the spool) you need to take a shim out.

    • @jayfranco9969
      @jayfranco9969 Год назад

      I don’t have any shims on my reel and my line is still tapering.. I’m lost

    • @andersriksson100
      @andersriksson100 Год назад

      @@jayfranco9969f you have other reels, see if you have shims in their box to use after some modification if needed. Or have a look at the shim in your reel (it should have say one or two) and make one on your own, it's a thin piece of plastic, not hi-tech.

      I have been filming with a phone, before this, it was a proper studio set up, which...I need to tidy up a bit Was testing a new mic with the phone so I could use to film as a back up outdoors, I still need to figure it out.
      Honestly, Fishing in general isn't a cheap hobby to start with - you can make it cheaper and there are alternatives - I mostly use mid end gear, just that most are JDM. There are lots of alternative from Asia for rods (which are quite good - like storm rods for slow jigging). This hobby can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be.

      if you are croatian guy like me and if you want to try all methods, it is very expensive. Light spin rod, heavy spin rod, squid rod, shore jigging rod, inchiku rod, fast jigging rod, slow jigging rod, trolling rod, + small slow spin reel, big slow spin reel, small fast spin reel, big fast spin reel, + multiplicator jigging and trolling reels haha. PLUS, all those artificial lures which are lost forever in the sea, my god. Minnows, Jerkbaits, crankbaits, deep divers, stickbaits, twitchbaits, wtd, wtd poppers, poppers, big cup poppers, casting spoons, casting jigs, narrow slow jigs, wide slow jigs, narrow fast jigs, wide fast jigs, inchiku and kabura. AND ALL OF THEM, in minimally two sizes and two colors haha. Im not even mentioning, soft plastic and egi lures haha. In croatia we have a saying, actually its the ultimate fishermans wish and dream, it goes like this: "when i die, i hope that my wife doesnt sell my gear for the price i told her that i bought it for" haha
