When 3d printing is faster than shipping...

  • I decided to use Wago lever nut connectors in my renovation project but the Wago junction boxes are difficult to find here in the US for some reason. I purchased some from overseas but I'm running out and need more sooner than I'd be able to have them shipped... SO, I hopped into Fusion360 and 3d modeled something very similar to help me complete my project. The files are linked below, along with my mounting brackets and link to the actual Wago connectors, which I think are fantastic. IF you have access to the real junction boxes, I totally recommend them. They're really well made and the price is right. If you don't, check out my backup plan and let me know if they worked alright for you!
    Thank you!

Brilliant, better design than the real thing. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the hardware store imagining some little part in a shape that would solve my current application, only to discover that the part doesn't exist or isn't available. So cool that 3D printing is getting more affordable to design our own. Now we just need affordable metal printers :D

Cool! I didn't know these existed. I was looking for something to keep the wires to all my WAGO connectors for Watto's table electronic panels... This inspires me to model up a slightly longer box.

RUclips is medicine because normally a guy makes something creative like this and nobody cares you are lucky if you get a "thats nice" Creative people need that imput to keep going and thats the value of the internet and YT.

The reason you can't get them here is because they're not code compliant in the US. No UL listing, among other things. But neither is your printed box, so 🤷- Viewers looking to import these or print similar designs should just be aware of the inspection/insurance/safety ramifications of going rogue.

apprentice electrician here, you're spot on. which part of me thinks is silly considering knob and tube wired houses are still code compliant being so old and that's way sketchier than this. but then you get into why you cant run certain types of plastics like vinyl-chloride based products because of how toxic the smoke is when it burns, which is then entire reason there is a code. My teacher explained it like "we are essentially preventative firefighters, everything we do and the rules we have in place it to prevent electrical fires and ensure life safety" which gave me more respect for the rules.
