  • I recently did a gold finish on a set of Jesse_m 3d printed C-3PO parts, and while they were here I figured I'd do some one-to-one comparison with a few screen-derived parts and some of my own 3d files, based on screen used parts. Jesse's files are the best printable files currently available and even though this video is a small critique, and I'm being very nitpicky, his work is fantastic and I always recommend his files when people are going to start a build. He's also done some beautiful work to create files for an animatronic version.
Here's a link to Jesse's Thingiverse page if you want to print your own!

Also, I believe these parts were printed at 100% and many other C-3PO builders have come to the conclusion that 105% may be closer to the screen used scale. If you're interested in doing a build yourself, definitely check out the C-3PO builder group on facebook for loads of information.

You hit on something I noticed but never dared say on the discussion groups for fears of pitchforks and torches. The 3D printed face does look too thin and I am grateful you but then side by side with screen used

Great comparison! However I think you may have made a mistake. I actually noticed that the don post scan arm joints resemble the one you were comparing it to when it closes. So unlike what you said, jesse actually did not replicate how the arm joints were on the don post, rather he made them close similar to all movies besides anh.

Nope, ESB, ROTJ, AOTC and ROTS all close like my new arm models.

@@gordontarpleywhat I said about Jesse's not looking like the don post still stands, as I've compared it to the scans. The actual scans have a short bicep cuff that reminds me of your new model.
Where im kind of confused now is that it sounds like you are saying that all those movies have a short bicep cuff.
When I look at reference images, they look kinda tall like Jesse's cuff. But I do realize now about the way it overlaps when it closes is different than Jesse's, in all those movies. Maybe the cuff length in the other old movies besides anh are halfway in between? Because it clearly looks like anh bicep cuffs are way shorter than the rest. And that your new model only looks like anh, being very short in the cuff.

Are those prints Jesse's newest? I just printed them last week and he did an update sometime in the last few years that changed some of the features like the back half having a straight front.

He stated in the video. They are actually not the new ones. In some ways I guess this video is outdated 😂

I don't think so. Pretry sure he's done some updates since this version.
