I never made anything like this before and sew very seldom, but thanks to this tutorial, I made custom curtains perfectly. Thanks for the clear instructions!
Thank You! I followed your video and made some really nice curtains! It was easy to follow what you did. You were very detailed in your video and I appreciate that. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this clear and helpful tutorial! I was originally making rod pocket curtains but I mistook my cut list and needed to somehow add length. Solution: tab tops! I actually made lined curtains following another maker’s video but combined both methods. The curtains look great and I learned a lot.
Thank you so much.this method is very easy. i will try out soon.can i sew a long tube for the tabs and cut into sections after turning it out and ironing it?
Thank you so much! This video helped a lot. I'm about to try sewing my own linen curtains because they're not affordable in the quality I'd like to have. :-)
Great tutorial. Simple and easy. I watch you use the same marker I purchase on Michaels Stores. I notice the marker coloring doesn't fade away when making the markings on some materials. I try cleaning it with a wet wipe it fades away and return when dry. I'm I doing something wrong?.
For some materials, the marker fades quickly and it takes longer on others. It's possible it may not fade on some materials, but we haven't come across any. It's best to test it out on the fabric before hand, but I know that's not always possible to wait that long!
Great video, i wanna start to see my own curtains, bed sheets, etc for my home and was looking for sites that will teach me how to do such things,( seeing that I have a little understanding about sewing, learned from my mother). I saw a post of this site on Pinterest and decided to have a look, ohhh boy now ain't I excited to start some curtains...🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏
To determine the size to cut your fabric, take the dimensions you want your curtain panel to be and add 4” to the width and 9” to the height to account for the hems. So plug in your measurements here - Your measurements: [finished panel width] + 4” by [finished panel height] + 9”
Hi Debra, It depends on how full you want the curtains to look, but I'd say a good range is between 40" and 53" per panel. That's 1.5 to 2 times the width of the window, divided by 2 (for the 2 panels). If you want the curtains to extend past the edges of the window or trim, you can measure the total width you want the curtains to span and apply the same math. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Hi there! This particular colorway is out of stock, but they do make this in other colors. You can find them here - www.onlinefabricstore.net/hsearchresult.aspx?keyword=Premier%20Prints%20Suzani
This curtain doesn't have a drapery lining on the back, but you can easily add one. Cut the lining the same size as the finished curtain and tuck it under the hems and sides before sewing. This tutorial shows how to make one with a lining: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-sew-lined-back-tab-curtains/
It's a good idea to add a drapery lining to the back which is usually white or ivory. To do this, cut the lining the same size as the finished curtain and tuck it under the hems and sides before sewing. It's similar to how it's done in this tutorial: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-sew-lined-back-tab-curtains/ If you want the same pattern on both sides, you can use the same fabric in place of the lining. Just keep in mind, direct sunlight will likely fade the side facing the sun, which is one of the reasons to use drapery lining. You can find our drapery lining here: www.onlinefabricstore.net/product-group-drapery-lining.aspx
Yes, this is typical, though not always necessary. One reason curtains often have large hems is the extra fabric helps weigh down the curtain at the bottom which helps it drape and hang nicer. That's why people sometimes also add weights inside the bottom hem. There may be certain fabrics that you wouldn't want a large hem. Sheer curtains that you want to look light and airy don't always have a large hem.
I always wondered how you made tab curtains. The details were well explained, many thanks!! By the way, the music was annoying and too loud. Please tone down or use something softer.
+Lass-in Angeles Thanks for the suggestion, we appreciate feedback! We have made the music quieter in newer videos after seeing a couple of comments about it. :)

How do you determine the width of your fabric/panels?
To determine the size to cut your fabric, take the dimensions you want your curtain panel to be and add 4” to the width and 9” to the height to account for the hems.

Lindoooo❤❤❤❤
What should the finished width of each panel be if window width is 53" across? Thanks,Clara!

hi what needle did you use?
I think it was probably a size 14 universal needle.
Super !!
Thanks!
what about behind the curtain can you show one with two sides.
This curtain doesn't have a drapery lining on the back, but you can easily add one. Cut the lining the same size as the finished curtain and tuck it under the hems and sides before sewing. Thanks a lot
A little confused. Those look great from one side, but how about the back - If you want the pattern to be visible on both sides?
It's a good idea to add a drapery lining to the back which is usually white or ivory. To do this, cut the lining the same size as the finished curtain and tuck it under the hems and sides before sewing. Great video, would be better without the music very distracting.
I agree about the music. Such great clear and concise instructions, no yabber jabber, kinda jarred by the music.
Good video. Setting the volume correctly to hear your voice means the music is too loud.
good
👍👌
Why such a big hem? Is that typical for curtains
