Ana, this was so inspiring and helpful! ❤ I love your videos so much and although I don’t have any actual writing friends, your channel helps me so much! Hope you keep going, you will eventually publish ❤
A lesson I have learnt is that novellas and short stories are valid and special. I don't need a huge overblown fantasy novel with 600 pages AND a spin off just to prove I am a good writer. I used to think the longer my book, the better, that I would be more impressive with a 100k word count. But actually, shorter stories are just as incredible as series or lengthy books! Growth in writing makes me tearful, to look how far we have come on our journey.
What you said about getting to know your characters is really interesting, because you were the one that taught me to develop my characters more. I think you said something like "make a character-driven plot, not plot-driven characters" and it got me thinking about my own characters for my novel and how I've created them only for the plot. I decided to develop my characters more, and now it feels like my characters are telling me their story and how their pasts affect their lives in the plot. A character I didn't really like became a comfort character. I can't stress the importance of getting to know your characters :)
Hi Ana! I love your writing tips, they helped me grow as a write. Unrelated: to save money instead of paying for extra storage through your phone plan. You can go buy a flash drive or two & store files, photos & videos from your phone on there & then delete off your phone. It frees up so much space.
I remember watching ur old video in which you wrote. Advice from an average writer and now how u wrote experienced writer just comes to show how much you have grown. How much we have grown
I am loving your podcast episodes Ana! I definitely think I was a pantser when I started writing as a beginner writer and I would think of a story idea I had that I was super excited about and then would go to write but then I would get disinterested or stuck where I was and think that I just was a bad writer and wasn’t good enough and that’s why I couldn’t just keep writing but once I realized that writing takes time and effort as well as planning to know your plot and especially your characters and I think it honestly made me enjoy writing that much more.
ilysmm Ana! Your like such a fun authortuber and your absolutely 11/10 gorgeous and have great tips!! But also if querying dosen't work out for you, self publish! It's an ideal path. With enough like promotion and self work- you could easily sell your book to your viewers!
I feel like I still don't have a writing style after 14 years, but I don't think a writing style has to be distinctive from others. As long as you don't copy stories (like I did for my first few books :) ) you have your own writing style because it's yours.
i feel like the "never pants" advice is something that you wish you could tell your yopunger self, but it shouldn't be something that other people should listen to as gospel necessarily. I'd rephrase that advice to "never force yourself to write in a system that doesn't work for you". I consider myself a discovery plotter like you do, but I know many writers who pants their novels entirely (with a couple of tweaks here and there in the editing stage). for some brains, the creative flow just comes naturally, and we shouldn't shame those brains for not planning more thoroughly :)
Does anyone know how to make books longer without like making it seems unnecessary or like its dragging out? I have a good plot and Characters but im worried my books gonna be super short and wondering if anyone knows how to avoid that??
Don't explain the story show the story for example a character has a pretty dark background and he is telling about it. Write the dark background don't let the character tell it. This also makes the readers feel bad for the characters
@@rahilaarslan7827 THANK YOU THATS ACTUALLY SO GOOD!! It's especially helpful since I'm writing in first person mixed pov so that isn't even that hard to do
I definitely agree with writing what you want but also keeping in mind the projects you’ve started and seeing the potential in them even if they aren’t at that stage currently! And getting to know your character is also a great tip!! I haven’t really tried it but I’ll definitely do! Also, good luck on querying! I know it might take time but it will be worth it!! 📨📝📖✨✨
Ana! your advice is so real and heartfelt, I loved the braids analogy! 💕 I went through a similar realization with my writing recently (not identifying with a certain genre anymore) and it felt like such a relief to finally figure that out. Loved listening to this, you're so motivating!!

add more plot points that will enrich your plot. add more narrative summary and explore your character's psyche. remember that a book is not only scenes, it may also use summary, so don't be afraid to sprinkle that in between your scenes. worlbuilding also tends to bloat a book so that's why most fantasy is thiccer than, say, most contemporary.
I think first of all, you should make sure if that particular name suits the environment or the world that you've created. Like, if someone names a character 'Dumbledore' in a contemporary setting that would be uh...not the best idea? (There can be exceptions) Or the contrary, if someone names a character 'Daniel' (or something very modern) in a fantasy setting then again, the same thing, it's not that suitable considering the world (obviously, it could be IF that suits the vibe of the world). There are several other things you should also consider but this is probably the basic!
Focusing on name meanings. Like if a person is royalty i would give them names that mean, royal or crown. Same thing if their a baker or artist. Meaning are really helpful to me at least
@@nereid149 oh ok thanks so much or the response... btw which book are you writing and can you share the plot (I am just asking to get to know the authors more... nothing personal)

Another piece of writing advice: You don't need to write everyday to make progress. I've learned this from many people, Ana included (thank you bestie

Ana this was so helpful as a 12 year old who has dreams of being a author I look up to you a lot! 😊
"Writers gonna write", thank you Ana for another wonderful video!! I really enjoy your content 🤍
Good luck with querying btw!!
انصح كذلك بقراءة انتقادات حول كتبك المفضله او المؤلفين الملهمين في goodreads هذا سيساعد في نظرك للامور من منظور مختلف وافادني في تجنب العيوب ❤

Yes, reading classics are the best

I think if you add little side stories that are a little away from the plot than maybe it’ll make it seem more kinda connected and less unnecessary

it depends on their region, their class, time period, or maybe their vibe, in my opinion
