They produce Three Ships and Bain’s whisky
Master Distiller is Andy Watts - awarded master distiller/blender of the year 2018 at the World Whisky Awards

5yo blended whisky consisting of Scotch whisky and South African whisky matured in American Oak casks
Awarded 93 points by Jim Murray in the 2015 Whisky Bible
World’s best blended whisky in 2012 (WWA)
ABV 43% -- (Chill filtered and coloured ???)

Deep gold
NOSE
Soft Islay peat smoke, rich fruit, crisp oak, shortbread, vanilla
DROP IN THE PALM - freshly baked bread with melting butter
TASTE
Rich, Peat smoke, vanilla, sweet fruit, pear, soft spice, chocolate, honey, bread and butter
FINISH
Clean and fresh, lingering fruit and peat smoke, warm spice
EMPTY GLASS - smoky caramel
WITH WATER:
Nose: fruit and soft alcohol
Taste: honeyed fruit with peppery oak spices
COMMENT: very good value dram

Excellent review!! I bought a bottle yesterday after the bottle stores opened yesterday. What struck me besides the fruitiness and smoke was just how smooth this whiskey is.... Absolutely delicious whiskey and the best whiskey for sale under R200 bottle IMO

I'm interested in your next tasting of the 10yo Three Ships. I bought a bottle 2016, and have a sample left, then I will compare with you impressions.

By verre die beste kwaliteit whisky op die rak vir onder R200, en ook my go-to whisky. Dink ook die 5jaar kompenteer goed met met whiskies dubbel sy prys.

Still a good whisky but in my opinion it is nothing like it was until 2015. This current version will never achieve the accolades of the past.
