There are ways to make basically any build work on physics 1. You just have to design it correctly. The massive amount of lag you experienced and the various malfunctions like the doors not opening were because you never turned the physics all the way down. Hey Kan, I really appreciate you taking the time to feature my Steam Train build on your channel! The build is entirely a fully piston-powered locomotive using a system based off the Walschaerts valve gear design as you mentioned. I've set it up so that the 1 key serves as the trigger to activate the pistons. Inside each cylinder, there's a sensor which detects the "valve stem," which in turn initiates the piston's movement. I had also integrated low-powered thrusters glitch welded into the boiler. These thrusters are used to replicate the "chuffing effect" to capture that authentic steam train experience. Apart from that and the boosting thrusters, it's entirely works off of the pistons. Anways, thanks again for giving my creation the spotlight!
Kan, 9 times out of 10 the description of the creation will tell you which button/switch will do ,so if you went to the description of the steam locomotive it would tell you about the locomotive.
The one thing I find interesting with the last vehicle, the muscle car, is that bespite the fact the body is completely rigid (Because Scrap Mechanic), you can actually see the left side lift more than the right side, like on high-torque vehicles irl.
The "sus movement" differential is actually a real mechanism named Almond noiseless coupling right angle drive. There are a few videos on here of it in motion it is a cool mechanism. Some fun builds in here
And unlike a normal differential, the output is only rotated 90 degrees, rather than 90 degrees and turning in the opposite direction. They were built to be mounted on the ceiling.

I know a trick for you when it comes to glitch welded pistons. You can easily use the vanilla glitch welding technique to do it with a lift but you use an elbow pipe with the bolt part to give the piston a side mount point that's in line with the piston.
Attaching a block the the large side of the piston then carefully hovering around until the block disappears into the piston.. Works in vanilla.! (Ignore this bit if you've heard enough) > This enables attachment of anything to any side of the piston which now has the connectivity of a block.
The way the clutch works is a bearing that's glitched into another bearing. Icebound Glaceon has a pretty recent video covering how to make it, and how it works.
What I'm trying to figure out currently is how in vanilla can we have a logic signal based on if a creation is moving or not. Like, if a car is falling out of the sky, driving, any form of moment as apposed to standing still. I'm trying to figure this out cause I want sensor doors that open when you get close to them. . . but only activate when the car is standing still.
I can think of two ways to do this both of them are bad one of them is better I think I haven’t done anything like this but theoretically you could do a logic circuit with an engine and a sensor and make a circuit where it needs to be going a certain speed in the sensor needs to be going on and off at a certain interval or you can probably try to sense the player because he moves in the seat a lot but that wouldn’t be consistent the logic would probably be a bit easier to keep it consistent if you tune it correctly

Hi, we appreciate that you liked our engine. The Shaw engine is quite amazing. We have a larger, stronger but slower version on the workshop called the "Gigashaw B8". It has around 60 k torque and runs between 20-30 rpm 💪
Kan, How about you make a piston engine in whitch pistons are mounted to the crakshaft with two sets of two curved pipes on each side of the piston. Like crankschaft, bearing, curved pipe up, curved pipe to the right, bearing, curved pipe up, curved pipe right, unpowered bearing and the other side of the piston is the same story but backwards. If you set the angles at whitch first two bearings are (first 90 second -90) you can change how far the piston needs to move for the engine to complete one revolution from 2 blocks away from the crankschaft to concentric with the schaft. I would say that assuming that the linear speed of the piston is constant, a shorter travel distance of the piston would allow it to complete a revolution is less time making the engine faster. Though I watched your video with a dino and you might put an adjustable encoder on that engine too because I saw a video on the internet of such an engine and it makes me think that lag will be involved and screwing with the engine timing.
I tried timing piston engines with timers and it doesn’t work very well when you get a little load just keeps going back-and-forth because the Pistons aren’t going at the right time
It would be cool to see if you could make a piston engine to see what the highest amount of torque you could get then try some sort of sled pulling and see if it's usable. Edit: forgot to say this but use the dyno obviously to so itll be easier plus i wanna see what kind of numbers you could get with a piston engine.
We posted an engine like that on the best build challenge. Unfortunately it was not featured in the video. But it has around 60 k tourqe and 30 rpm. Its called Gigashaw B8 and you can find it on the workshop.

The two reasons I haven't played Scrap Mechanic yet. 1. Single player is still alpha state and grindy. 2. Lagging out the physics and rendering is too easy.
with sensor timing systems if you advance or retard the timing to change speed, I managed to get an engine that goes 70 kmph with the most advanced timing it allowed. it's got 6 pistons.
It would. It would have more points where a piston is in an ideal position, giving smother torque. However, in general, you want to have as few bearings as possible on the crankshaft for lag and torque.
Yessir. The only problem is that the shaft needs a starting possition. So the high tourqe engine offsets it. But this problem can be fixed with a little magic. Like in the shaw/gigashaw engine from the autoshop :)
@@Elijah1573 300 rpm is kinda the standard for classic piston engines like the v, b and i series (tho there are exceptions). 3 length max speed for regular engines is the way to go
Kan, How about you make a piston engine in whitch pistons are mounted to the crakshaft with two sets of two curved pipes on each side of the piston.
10:30 found the sus part of the car in the trunk
I tried timing piston engines with timers and it doesn’t work very well when you get a little load just keeps going back-and-forth because the Pistons aren’t going at the right time
You should have a competition where we all build piston engines then you hook them up to the Dino
For some reason, that "spooky spider" look like that baby head spider from Toy story 1. Idk thats what it look like to me.
@@sm-autoshop if I had a PC and the game I'd check it out 🥲

sounds like a flywheel of sorts?
Its a clutch that uses the tourqe of 2 powered bearings to engage and disengage the 2 shafts. Or in this case, its 8 bearings.
"They dont have to be that powerful they are only spinning props"
Me who works on a 4700 horsepower explody tube connected to a really big constant speed ceiling fan: ( ͡ʘ ͜ʖ ͡ʘ)
You dont need such high physics for trains

That's crazy bro
btw thats how real steam locos change gearing to
i was thinking when i seen the gover car why not make a gear powered hover car i dont know how it work out but i figure smash two things Kan might like in to one thing and he might like to explore it for a vid becase it just sounds cool id think they like it every one wins id think
I found a new suspension glitch awhile back without glitch welding
The two reasons I haven't played Scrap Mechanic yet. 1. Single player is still alpha state and grindy. 2. Lagging out the physics and rendering is too easy.
I found a good way to make piston engines smaller
8:30 That isn't actually that hard, but the way SM has to make programmable stuff makes it painful
with sensor timing systems if you advance or retard the timing to change speed, I managed to get an engine that goes 70 kmph with the most advanced timing it allowed. it's got 6 pistons.
What happened to that mini naval series?
I wanna see the extra muscular muscle car on the dyno ☠️
The engine was testet on the dyno before we used it. We originally built it for tractors and trucks as it has around 25 k tourqe💪
and common since would tell you that if it's still laggy on physics 8 then go to physics 7
maybe look at the discription of the creation first. because the first train actually says to but it to level 7 physics.
Same thing with mine. It says to put it to physics 1 but kan ignored the description. Sigh...
Funny thing is, he would of gotten the answer to his gearbox and coupling questions to If he only read the description on the 2 creations.
omg plz more piston stuuff
¨!!!!
Kan when is the next vid whit hyce comming out?
The diff on the blue car is what makes it sus 😅😅🤣
And great!
Hey kAN! I was just wondering if it would be okay if i used your old intro song since you don’t use it anymone.
Would a piston engine with 8 pistons 45 degrees offset from eachother work well? Any piston engine pro can answer.
It would. It would have more points where a piston is in an ideal position, giving smother torque. However, in general, you want to have as few bearings as possible on the crankshaft for lag and torque.
when will all these be in survival thats when i turn the game on agean
11:54 do you honestly not see just how sus this is
Can u try to make a piston engine powerd big american truck?
Bread
One of the plane's pistons wasn't painted black and now I can't unsee it
More factorio?
Long crank= more tourqe less rpm
Short crank= less tourqe more rpm
Yessir. The only problem is that the shaft needs a starting possition. So the high tourqe engine offsets it. But this problem can be fixed with a little magic. Like in the shaw/gigashaw engine from the autoshop :)
Ive only managed to get up to 300rpm using a 1 block crank
But i see people doing WAY faster than that and ive got no clue how
@@Elijah1573 300 rpm is kinda the standard for classic piston engines like the v, b and i series (tho there are exceptions). The engines that have 1000 rpm is often either a special build engine like the Kein engine or a special type engine like the radial. But those have often low torque. However, the Kein engine is crazy good in both rpm and tourqe.
U are cool😊
I made an ai helicopter thingy that uses PID controllers, but it took so long to make that it ended being put on the discord right after the video posted, :(
Kan you should play derail valley
And a 8x8 piston semi
We want a piston powered submarine!
When describing gear ratios, you seem to be reversing the order of numbers,
"2 to 1" is 2 revs into the gears to get 1 rev out
Are we not getting more of that Roblox train game?
I'm still waiting for your new piston engine video
trick: get in a vc with someone good, you build and they will guild you. -sm technical community
Kan you are the best
@11:34, Why is that car touching itself
Why should it not ;)
