Hello again, i ended up buying a car fan rotary switch for the purpose, after going behind the fire & looking at the white 5 pin cable at both ends, i discovered the wires at the switch end are speed controlled already in to the fan, i done away with the white as i think it was the automatic side of the system, the blue, brown & black are low medium & high, plus grey as 12 volt dc , attached to a rotary switch with three settings that is what i have now, brown is low, black is medium, blue is high, i also moved the switch away from the fire as the cable is long & put it on a spare piece of cabinet, i think that is one of the causes of the failure high temperature, i put the old one back in the fire just for looks, got the switch from car builder solutions on e-bay £16, rotary switch & bezel.

      Wow
That sounds a brilliant fix and one that I will definitely be looking at when I have issues again
You are correct in stating the heat plays a part in breaking down the switch effectiveness
Hopefully this information will help others
All the best and well done

These switches are no longer available, if you do have a problem you could use a DC motor speed control switch, you would lose the auto Manuel switch part though, my switch is knacked so that is my plan.

      Hi there
If your lucky you might still find one
Could you get a video on here if you give your plan a go 🤔

@@RichDavey Yes as you say there are a few out there, very sparse & very pricey, i have ordered a 1.5 to 15 volt DC speed controller, I'm sure this will do the job,
