What is ASMR?
Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response
A feeling of well-being combined with a tingling sensation in the scalp and down the back of the neck, as experienced by some people in response to a specific gentle stimulus, often a particular sound.
• Autonomous - spontaneous, self-governing, with or without control
• Sensory - about the senses or sensation
• Meridian - signifying a peak, climax, or point of highest development
• Response - referring to an experience triggered by something external or internal

ASMR signifies the subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterized by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin". It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control.

This trigger is what introduced me to ASMR back in early 2012.
I was sitting next to my mom at the dinner table and she was looking through the local newspaper.
The sound when she turned the pages was so relaxing I almost fell asleep.
Stood up, went to my laptop and googled "sound of turning newspaper pages".
Thats when I first read about ASMR and watched a video from one of the earliest ASMRtists who turned newspaper pages.
