What's your favourite snare and tuning?

On all those snare drums, I prefer the high tunings. My favorite snare was either the brass or the beech. Leaning more towards the brass. Kinda biased towards brass though because my favorite snare at home is brass...

I’ve never been able to find ‘the’ snare for me. I’ve tried different sizes and different materials but I’m still struggling. Perhaps I’m reaching for the improbable. 😊 I much prefer high tuning, and I know what sound I like, I just can’t find it. Not within my price range anyway!

      @@rosswhite2865whats your ideal sound?

@@DaveMajor ideally something similar to the snare sound on Alive by Pearl Jam or Two Princes by the Spin Doctors. I just love that crack. I’ve also heard what I assume to be a highly tuned wooden snare on a Manowar album (guilty pleasure!) that I love. Think the drummers name is Rhino (what else?) and he performs a drum solo. Snare sounds amazing.

How do you think the steel Kompressor compares to a Sonor PAD14 14x6.5 snare drum (Panther Series 1987) or SONOR D-506 - Phonic Series Ferro-Manganese Steel 14x6.5 Snare Drum (1989-1996)?

The Kompressor is a great drum. The ferro snares have a slightly thicker and warmer tone. They’re less snappy and have less top end than a typical steel shell. The Kompressor gives the classic steel snap and bite that you might want. Both are just as good, but different.
