  • Get great sound and retain that Gasket Flex. I HIGHLY recommend doing this if you own a Keychron Q1

    Silicone mat is the way to go, figured this out through some trial and error when I first got the Q1. This + tape in between halves of cases makes the ping pretty much a non issue

      I ordered silicon sheet before i got my Q1...after "tape in between" Keybored's mode, i am not sure the silicone mat is needed. Probably gonna reduce the flex right?

      @@NhatLinhNguyen82 i think its about the same thickness of just running the single thin foam, but with more dampening, so it couldn't hurt

      Yeah it really is. The silicone pour does the same job, but... It's requires much more effort.

    went with the same color q1 but with red samurai instead, added some tape to the back of the pcb and 2 layers of tape by the screw holes and completely got rid of the ping

    Keybored handle it pretty good with the addition of mask tape beside the screw holes

      Oh yeah, I saw that as well. His method minimises the transfer of vibrations to be bottom plate while mine reduces the vibration of the bottom plate itself. Both methods work. I intentionally wanted to try something I don't see anyone else doing.

    I add this silicone mod to my Q 1 and changes everything , I use the tape mod, 2 layers and a 3rd on the spacebar area, force break mode, the silicone that I use was the thinnest that I found in Amazon, I think 1/25 of an inch, using Glorious Panda , lub and film, and hacker keychron pbt keycap, thanks for the silicone tip, was breakthrough mod.

    ive been using 1mm and 2mm silicone sheet to mod some of my keyboard. Im planning to get a keychron q1 and will also do the same mod like u did here :)) good and clean video, love it

    Noob question, why would you want flex? Also would a 1.8mm silicone sheet work? I'm guessing the sound would be dampened even more?

    Try a product called kilmat instead of the case foam. works wonders and won't affect the flex of the board since it's so thin.

      The silicone sheet is more effective at dampening vs Kilmat and is much cheaper as well.

    I'm planning to build and mod a custom keyboard soon and i have an extra amazon basics silicon baking mat, do you believe this should work pretty much the same?

      Well it all depends on the thickness of the mat. Silicon is Silicon and should work the same. My piece is 1mm thick.

    im new to this so.. you put the PE foam on the side with the switch holes and then just push the switch prongs through into the hot-swappable board?

      it has to be thin enough though. My PE foam is only 0.5mm thick.

    so pe foam mod doesnt require anything like poking holes for the switches?

      From my experience building 6 boards with PE foam, I did not need to do that. But do note that my PE foam is only 0.5mm thick.

      I've used thicker pe foam and you will need to poke holes for the center post but you shouldn't need to poke hole for the electric pins.
      Thicker pe foam also makes it easier to bend pins. If you are good about putting switches in straight you shouldn't really bend more pins than is normal.

      Ah, the PE foam is only 0.5mm thick. It is so thin, you can even see the holes through it.

      Those are sold under the name Everglide V2. The are essentially the same as Durock V2, just a different name.

      It has a 5.2 degree typing angle, which I would consider pretty flat.

      You can pour your own for pretty cheap. There's a 7oz two part silicone molding kit for $13 on amazon. I was able to use it easily on my first time, just make sure all holes are taped up to prevent a disaster
