It obviously needs tweaks that realize the current state of conferences. My thought is a 14 team playoff with the B1G and SEC champ getting a bye and the other 12 teams seeded by ranking only and playing the NY6 bowls as the play into a 8 team playoff. If there is no outright winner of the the B1G and SEC at the end of reg season they play the conf champ for the bye, if there is the 2 and 3 teams play a conf final as a play in seeding game.
Where is the acknowledgement of the fact that you took Indiana, offered a litany of reasons why and were completely wrong? How can you consider yourself a serious commentator on college football, attack the narrative coming from your counterparts in the media but completely ignore your own short comings? Be a man, take your medicine and say you were wrong. Wrong about Indiana and wrong about the fact that you thought they would play well against Notre Dame. Because they didn't.
What happens when the SEC goes north into the cold? They get dominated like a Highschool team. No wonder the SEC lobbied the NCAA for years to avoid playing outside of SEC territory. They can't travel. I have not seen southerners get beat so bad north of the Mason/Dixon line since Gettysburg '63. In the Big North Conference, we are not just geographically above the SEC. The Rose Bowl, the granddaddy of them all, this year is basically the National Championship game, by far the two best teams, Oregon and Ohio State. Hey SEC, Don't be going to play games up north, there be wolves.
SEC homers were going wild after Indiana and SMU but fell deafeningly silent after Tennessee, which lost to Ohio State by a bigger margin than Indiana. 😅😅
I was at the Ohio State game last night. The Big Ten has to find a way out of that noon time slot. Energy was 1000x any noon game I’ve been to except some OSU-UM games. Haven’t missed a home game for OSU since 2017, was at Penn State this year. Night games are just that much better. Not a knock on you and Gus-Just an observation.
Yes, great point. I was thinking the exact thing last night AND when watching the Michigan game. That Noon/9am PST time slot is ridiculous, honestly it feels like the Pop Warner time slot.
We were at the Texas/Clemson game. End of 3rd going into 4th when the sun went down had so much more energy when they could do the lights and drones. The energy just went to another level. Ohio State definitely needs to get more night games. I graduated from A&M, my wife from Texas so i don’t have a dog in any of these games. Night games way better than day. Especially for the playoffs
The playoffs are not over. Careful with karma. It comes when you least expect it. Did you forget a few weeks ago you got destroyed by a mediocre Michigan team? And did you forget Oregan embarrassed your team? Stay tuned
@@Breeze-g5t~ Gee.... did you miss the point there lol... And Oregon and Ohio State and Penn state deserve to be in the playoffs, way more than any 3 SEC teams. You have zero clue what you're talking about

@@Hazamandeous Tennessee better than Indiana. Notre Dame is not on the same level as Ohio state and Tennessee was at least in that game at the half. Indiana never even had hope
When there were only two teams in the "playoffs" we yelled for expansion. When there were 4 teams in the play-offs, we yelled for expansion. Now there are 12 teams, and if you can't make the playoffs, you got nothing to cry about. The top 8 teams are legit.
I think people put too much into the early rounds of the playoffs being competitive. The goal is to get the correct 4 teams into the semifinals and the natty game. It's just a fun weeding out process. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
@@cgates2Which games won't be competitive? I think ASU, Boise, and ND can compete. Maybe Texas destroys, but if Skattabo can get rolling it could be close.
@@8thaccount535 honestly, ASU and Boise probably won’t make the games competitive. But hey I was wrong Tennessee beating Ohio State so we’ll see. I’m an OU fan so you can see why I’m rooting for the SEC, but I will say Ohio State Penn State and Oregon are obviously the big 3 in the BIG10
I think a lot of that was the fact that Tennessee hasn't had to play a lot of pro style offenses this year. Extra layers of blockers in the backfield gave time to expose Tennessee secondary. I've been shocked that Georgia was the only team who truly exposed our weak back end in sec play
Agreed, the seeding should reflect power rankings. Closest game all night was 5th vs 12th, which was ironicly the most realistic ranking of the playoff bracket.
The byes would be fine if it was different logos? Sad, don't hate those teams because of how they were ranked in the system. Both those teams did what they had to which was win. I would argue the bye is worse. They didn't find out who they play until a week prior. That's tougher to get prepared for
@@dallasolmsted2546it's not about the logos. It's about automatic byes. Automatic qualifying is ok for conference champions, but the automatic byes aren't.
My biggest takeaway from those games were how crucial having home field advantage was. I completely underestimated how big of a factor that would be. It seemed even more of a advantage in the playoffs than the regular season
If SMU and Indiana did not belong in the playoff .. does that mean Tennessee did not belong too? All 3 were dominated .. by northern teams. You can argue schedule .. but you don't get to use the "See, they were dominated" argument. Indiana, by the way, played OSU tougher than UT did.
Yes Tennessee did belong because they actually played a real schedule and had ranked wins. SMU and Indiana were 11-1 because they played cupcakes all year. Not even remotely the same thing
@@Matt-uk8dv Yeah, I didn't say Tennessee didn't belong. I'm just making the point about those who point to SMU and Indiana losing badly .. as another reason they didn't belong in. Oregon has to play the team that is the absolute worst match-up for them in the second round. Seems like a shabby prize for going undefeated and being the No. 1 seed.
On the other hand, OSU has to play their toughest match-up in the quarterfinals. Lanning said it best -- whichever team wins the natty has to win at least three games against three very good teams.

Tennessee is the 3rd best team in the SEC and yet the Buckeyes were playing their 2nd & 3rd string in the game??? Let that sink in. If it wasn’t for the referees giving Tennessee two favorable calls, the game would have been a bigger blowout.
@@schrodawg1 They’ve been frauds for a LONG time, because they refuse to play a 9 game conference schedule. The BIG conferences do. The SEC instead plays an FCS team to guarantee a win. Tennessee is not the third best SEC team, not even close. They are behind Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Bama at least. What conference has more players drafted in the last 18 seasons?
Ohio state got multiple favorable calls as well. Letting corners run straight into receivers without looking for the ball... A really bad late hit as well Don't make this more than what it was. Tennessee was never winning that game and they are still better than Indy and SMU if you actually watched all those games objectively

Wow.... Tennessee is really slow.... More than anything this affirms what My eyes have been telling me all season. The SEC is not the best conference in college football this year.... Georgia is good some days. They would have lost to Georgia tech in their own house, If not for some very favorable officiating calls down the stretch. They're very inconsistent.... Probably the best game left in college football this season is Oregon versus Ohio State.... Notre Dame Texas and Georgia are capable of putting up a good fight though. I'm not even going to sleep on Arizona State versus Texas... I think the Big ten may have the three best teams in the country. Yet to be seen...
@Nowledgeman What does that mean? People here are simultaneously making excuses for Tennessee saying they are only the 5th best SEC team and then comments like yours that insist top to bottom SEC has most depth. Ole Miss is not a good team. No matter what they do in portal or recruiting or even what their talent composite says. Paper vs reality.
A little salty he picked IU against my Irish but couldn’t agree more with Klatt. Loved him going top rope on Kiffin 😂😂 always love the content, keep speaking up for the good of CFB and stop SEC homers from trying to ruin it to safeguard their past monopoly on talent and attention.
No reaction was as inexplicable as Colin Cowherd’s when he said “never invite Indiana again”. That thinking is exactly why this expansion was needed. Him saying that basically meant their brand wasn’t “historically big enough” so they shouldn’t even be given the chance to grow it even with their great season, and inherently make the league better.
@@jimmyjam5453 "The SEC won't play those home and home games against teams they might lose to." They literally have scheduled some of those. The problem with the scheduling is that they schedule so f'ing far in advance that games that were good on paper at the time are now terrible. See Alabama, they scheduled a home and home with Wisconsin when Wisconsin was good, now Wisconsin is terrible so they don't get any credit for it. They also had one with Florida State. I know it's fun to hate on the SEC but at least use actual facts and not lies
As for OSU, it isn’t about having a game plan that the fanbase accepts. It is about having a game plan that works and highlights the talent and skill that you have, and doesn’t play into the strengths of the defense.
OSUs fanbase accepts game plans that utilize the tools we have to take advantage of the opponent’s weaknesses. That would include NOT running into the teeth of a future NFL D-line over and over and expecting it to work. Ryan Day still needs to go.
@@DracoBig30you do realize Texas played Oklahoma as well and for the out of conference they played Michigan who is probably better than NC State. Texas also played Georgia but not bama.
Was at the game last night. When UT was chanting during Carmen Ohio… I knew it was over. When it was 21 to nothing, OSU started singing Rocky Top. It was glorious. Now I’m booking my tickets for the rose bowl.
Tennessee and Ohio State had the toughest path to the natty in the seedings, followed by Oregon. So you have a bit of a point. However, pretty much everyone agreed that PSU was given the easiest path to the semifinals.
The on campus playoff games were amazing. That is the ticket to long term success, not neutral site sterile corporate venue games. They also provided an incredible advantage to the home teams. The atmosphere provided created more of an advantage than talent differential.
I could not agree more that it felt like people were just bitching all weekend when we should have been having a great time enjoying home playoff games.
The cold wasn't a factor. Why does people keep saying that? Ohio state didn't play in cold weather until last night either. They both had time to practice outside in the cold the last couple weeks. Speed and execution was the factor.
@@BasgerinI can recall the most recent and reigning national champion... The Michigan Wolverines! This is a battle between Oregon, Bucks, and Georgia.
SMU had some chances but the two pick sixes and that 3rd interception really took all the wind out of the sails for them. The defense was actually playing really well for SMU. Not saying they would've won but I think it could've been competitive
The main takeaway for me from the blowouts all day is that a home playoff game environment is a MASSIVE advantage. Every home team won, and it’s really impressive that Clemson v Texas (the game with the largest ranking disparity) was by far the most competitive. Clemson guys are used to being on that kind of stage and it showed. Any of those games in a neutral site would’ve been a lot closer even if the outcome would’ve been the same.
That was my feeling as well. I don't know that the W-L results of those games necessarily change, but play those games at a neutral site and I think most of them would be WAY more competitive. Home field is such a huge deal in college football. Hopefully when they make tweaks to the formula after next year (I believe they did an initial 2 year contract) they just make the entire playoff on neutral fields rather than allowing any home field advantages.
Wait Klatt. A team from the mighty SEC gets utterly STOMPED on. Wth. Now I’m confused. If this team gets whooped what would a team that lost to Vanderbilt lose by. SEC bias dude takes it right where the sun dont shine.
So you're acting like Ohio St. hasn't been a top 5 team all year and playing at home. Just because Tennessee got slaughtered by a better team doesn't mean the Big ten has more quality teams. You clowns are so close minded and biased.
This was great for college football. People shouldn't be crying over the scores. Blowouts happen... that doesn't mean that teams like Alabama deserved a 3rd try to beat the teams that already beat them. Home field advantage was Awesome! Giving new teams a chance and new fan bases hope, is all great for the sport.
No it shouldn't be more than 8, you could still do home playoff games in that format. Honestly 4 with home field in the semis would be perfectly acceptable most years
The only thing I take issue with is the rule for who gets automatic bye weeks. Arizona st is about to get crushed by UT. Boise should have played SMU first round. This year made the 5 spot an easy in.
My favorite moments from that game is buckeyes fans chating sec before espn went into commerical break and handing out the roses for the coach and the players and bringing out the victory cigar
I think what this showed was that all the talk of possibly expanding the playoffs even further should stop. ND dominated IU, Penn State dominated SMU, Texas dominated Clemson, Ohio State dominated Tennessee. There isn't 12 teams capable of winning the Championship let alone 16 or 18 or whatever. Any given year there's only 4, 5, MAYBE 6 teams that can realistically win the Natty. The 12 team playoff should be the the cap. The only thing that saved this first round is that it was held on University Campuses instead of neutral fields, which is pretty cool.
Joel's comment about Dan Lanning not complaining gave me a new thought about Lane Kiffin. If Ole Miss had made it in as the 10 or 11 seed he would have complaint tweeted about their draw. That's just who he is. I shouldnt be bothered by Kiffin's childish tweets any more than I should be bothered by lions eating antelope.
Lane Kiffin's team was 8th in the SEC. Ohio State blew out the 3rd ranked team in the SEC. Please remind me why his 3 loss team deserved to be there? Especially since one loss was to a team that was 1-7 in conference. It's a bad look for a coach. Also Indiana lost to Ohio State by a smaller margin than Tennessee who beat Alabama who people thought should have been in over Indiana. Make it make sense.
Michigan fan here......OSU is our rival and there is no love lost between Michigan and Ohio State......despite that fact i was glad to see OSU hand it to an overrated SEC conference. I'm sick and tired of hearing the garbage that comes from them and the likes of Finebumb. The bowl games and playoffs have basically been played in SEC environments and locations making them pretty much home games for the SEC. We see what happens when the SEC actually has to play in the temps real men play in. Even their helmets can't stand the cold......that boy sure nuff got his helmet cracked😂 SEC......welcome to big boy land!!!
Thanks… we will…. As we beat Alabama again…. that is if they actually play our starters. See you in Ann Arbor …. Leave your flags at home…. You won’t need them.
I hope you talk about the issue of home court advantage going forward too. We just learned (again) how critical hosting a game is and how big of an advantage that gives (and that southern teams don't do well in the cold, surprise surprise). With that, is it fair that all remaining games will be in the south, with 4 of them in SEC-land? Yes, I know this isn't new in the post-season, but it doesn't make it fair.
lol. “The cold weather is too tough for us. Please give us home field advantage by forcing the northern teams to travel south to us on a “neutral” field”. What a joke. Cold weather is tough to play in. That’s part of the sport. Deal with it.
Its just as hard for us to go down south from 10 degree weather to 70 degree weather. They've always had the advantage with that. The body doesn't do well going from hot to cold or from cold to hot
Yep. It used to be that the SEC were the only ones doing "NIL" and it was all under the table, and their rosters reflected that fact. Now that NIL is legal and above board and everyone is doing it, along with the transfer portal, the sport is developing more parity.
SEC is still the strongest conference overall from top to bottom, no doubt, but their issue is that the strength is not highly concentrated on a few teams like it used to be. Right now the SEC has like 7 or 8 good teams that are somewhat comparable, and even after that the cellar dwellers are better than the bottom of other conferences. Big 10 has way less good teams than the SEC, but does have a few teams at the top that might be slightly better than those SEC teams. Remains to be seen there, we'll let the playoffs play out, but that is how it appears at the moment.
The sec biased is real. Texas struggled against the lowest rank team in the playoff. Tennessee got beat like a drum but it's the one loss Indiana who doesn't belong and 3 loss Alabama who belongs. Even though Alabama lost to Tennesse. Makes perfect sense if you're in the sec I guess?
@@Timidor23It was competitive in the same way Texas was the first time against Georgia. Clemson did not quit and Cade played a good game, but it took 1 play for Texas to go back to 14 points after it briefly became a 1 score game.

Joel Klatts argument about the NFL playoffs is so incredibly stupid. The margin of the best NFL teams and the worst is very small. The margin of the best College Football teams and the worst is very large. No one gets mad if you get blown out in the NFL playoffs because that team still had to play NFL TEAMS, PROFFESIONAL TEAMS to get to the playoffs so they earned it. In College Football that is not the case, where Notre Dame is playing NIU and Alabama is playing Fruit Loops Academy. Teams can inflate their record by playing opponents who they are clearly better than and dont stand a chance. A TEAM WHO MAKES THE NFL PLAYOFF PROVED THEY COULD AT LEAST BEAT 1 NFL/ PRO LEVEL TEAM. An 11-6 team in the NFL still makes the playoff because the teams they beat. They dont get left out because they have "6 losses" even if one of them was to the Giants. College needs to be the same, you need to prove that you are able to beat good teams. College Football schedules need some fixing.
Not to mention there are mechanisms in place to make NFL rosters as equal as possible, plus there are STANDINGS and tiebreakers in place to decide playoff teams. There is no argument or subjectivity. Terrible analogy from Klatt.
I'd rather have home CFP first round games that play out like this than to have meaningless new year's 6 bowls where half the rosters are opting out! Keep it coming!
Why do people act like blowouts are a sign of anything? Bama has lost a national championship ship by 20 and won one by 30 , sometimes games just get away from you doesn’t mean anything
We got to see what happens when the SEC is forced to play a Non-conference game on the road. ESPN propaganda always talks about the SEC strength of schedule, but they have the weakest non-conference schedule of the power 4.
This is a great take. We finally get a college football playoff and there is nothing but sore losers. I throughly enjoyed every game. I love this format!
@ bro then you don’t love football. How was notre dame beating down an in state team, Indiana, not fun to watch. The pageantry, the pride, the highs and lows. If a back and forth, each team scoring after the next, is your only definition of “good” football, then you’re missing out on a great time. Enjoy football for what it is.
Joel's positivity and love of college football is infectious. ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏 60 year old dude who does not have a favorite team was very disappointed that we got four blowouts. With that said, the bracket set up will be tweaked in future years to make for more competitive opening round games and round of eight games.
Great episode! Also a great response to Lane Kiffin. I felt really bad for Kevin Jennings yesterday, that was a rough ending of an incredible season for him. But adversity is often needed to grow into a better version of yourself, so I hope we will see him doing great things next year. Happy holidays everybody!
People talking about the blowouts aren’t looking ahead. NIL is spreading these players around, and in time teams like SMU and Indiana will be able to compete. This is only the first year for all these changes
Not only that, but it's still good for the game even if the blowouts keep happening for years. We still play the 1-16 games in NCAA march madness even when the 16 basically never wins, because it's still exciting because of the what-if, and just the chance for some of these teams, even if it's a small one.
Joel Klatt is far superior to Josh Pate because he isn't an sec hack. You are what your record says you are for those who actually win their games vs. those who lose to ou - Florida - Kentucky. Just win your games and you will get in.
There are things I dont like about Pate but above all else he is a realist. Klatt is on here being naive and pretending like the Indianas and SMUs actually have a "chance to win the title" like cmon lol Should be 2, 4, 6 or 8 teams. 12 is comical.
@@RB-.- Klatt isn't saying they had a chance. False narrative. Klatt also doesn't decide the playoff format. A second false narrative. The college playoff expanded for numerous reasons. $$$$$$ was one of them. More teams means more $$$$$$$$. You don't know who has a chance and who doesn't to win a championship. Having teams earn their spots allows for us to see who is and who isn't a a champion. There was a time when Oregon or Penn State wouldn't have been given a chance. This year both teams have a shot at it and it will be decided on the field instead of someone's opinion. I love the expanded playoffs and hate that sec people and coaches think they are entitled to half the field. Arrogance and entitlement aren't sufficient arguements for inclusion. Win you games and you get in. Lose to Vandy, Kentucky, ou, and florida and stay home.
Also, Joel, the NFL has a very clear determination for making the playoffs... that's the difference. College still is almost entirely determined by committee. And the auto bids that are part of the process are dubious.
Michigan guy here. OSU can't beat UM but could win the natty... Why they didn't use this game plan against Michigan is beyond me. Anyway good job and good luck. Most people here root for you even though your fans are a bit on the mentally ill side who no way rooted for UM last year. But, that's ok. We understand. Now go out there and use all of this talent and bring home another Big10 natty.
Thanks. I am the same way. Despite my loyalty to Ohio State, I also understand to support Big10 conference when we aren’t playing each other. We lost to UM due to our inability to manage our psyche related to THE GAME. GoBucks and go Big10 conference.
I'm an OSU fan and I rooted for Michigan last year. I'm an college football fan then a BIG10 fan then a OSU fan in that order. I was happy to see the BIG10 win the natty last year.
“Mentally ill side” lmao ngl ur like the first Michigan fan to genuinely give us props this year…every michigan fan was laughing at osu teaming up with Tennessee hoping they would beat us too which is unfortunate but understandable. As an osu fan I still hated y’all last year but was happy y’all won it all for the sake of the big 10, especially against an SEC Giant like Bama. Thanks for kind words🤝
I'm not saying we would have won but OSU play calling against UM was awful. Kept trying to force the run when they had all these weapons. Smith only had 2 targets in UM game.

The first time i heard the SEC chant during the game I was like the MFs in here disrespecting us whole they're losing!? Nope, OSU fans being even more petty. Love it.
8:20 Tennessee didnt have Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant to hold OSU in check (both passing and running) with a 4 men front. That also allowed Michigan to add another DB to the backfield and cloud the picture for OSUs Qb long enough for pressure to get to him.
Michigan won because of the worst game plan imaginable by OSU. Instead of neutralizing those DTs we just played right into their hand. Everybody that knows ball understands this. Had OSU spread Michigan out like Texas and Oregon it would have been a blowout
@ I made a broad statement there but essentially it's a plan that didn't attack the weakness of the Michigan defense and that's a fact. I know we tried other things but we still didn't attack where we had the advantage enough. We kept getting blown up on first and second down which lead to a bunch of bad third downs and when we tried to attack it was pressure situations were we executed poorly. Contrast last nights plan and Michigans and you'll see what we should have done. More counter runs and read option as opposed to power at the strength of Tennessee's defense
@positroll7870I watched the all 22 film for every snap of that game. Ohio state gameplanned themselves out of that game on offense. Michigan did exactly what you’d expect them to do given their strong suits. Chip Kelly actually called a game tonight that benefitted our strong suits. Baffling to say the least.
The first round was phenomenal. SEC is what was, the Big Ten is what is. Bama should've taken their anger out on Oklahoma and Vandy, not on the committee. SMU just ran into the PSU buzz saw.
Heck in all honesty 4 teams was too many some years with the blowouts that happened then but every other year it’s a real debate between who is 2 or 3 so 4 teams took away that conflict. With 12 the teams at the bottom all have serious flaws.
Well the 4-team wasn’t any better imo. And the old BCS bowl was even worse. 5 competitive games in 20 years there. I’d say this format is much more definitive than those others given the fact we get to see those once hypothetical games play out- such as UT claiming that if they played OSU, they would whip em- which they (UT fans) have been wanting for ages. They finally got the game and absolutely deserved every bit of the beat down. Now on to the next round.
Outstanding Joel. Fair and fresh analysis. Level headed too. I just subscribed to the channel because our it. (And no, I’m not a Big Ten guy, SEC fans.).
indiana had 1 loss in the Big 10 and got absolutely routed. This logic does not hold up. The actual reasonable take is that both conferences are good, clearly the best 2 conferences, but both have some pretenders or at least teams that aren't firing on all cylinders right now. And honestly, historically, this is pretty common in all sports. Legit good teams get to the postseason and play terribly for whatever reason and get destroyed. Doesn't mean their entire conference is bad. This is just lazy thinking.
People are going to take victory lap and say teams like Alabama should have been in but the reality is that they shouldn’t have. If you didn’t like the quality of the games that’s because there aren’t 12 teams every year that are good enough to compete the for the championship but the idea of expanding to twelve is to at least give those fringe teams a spot and incentivize the less powerful conferences to compete nationally. So if you want to trim the playoff down so only true contenders could compete, then you would have fewer teams and a 3 loss Alabama wouldn’t have made it then either.
I’ve never been more interested in college football. The playoff will evolve and only get better. I also think the format will make teams and other conferences elevate their schedule over time. Win win.
Ohio State has a top roster. Tennessee doesn’t with a freshman QB. so being a beatdown with Ryan Day saving his job wasn’t a surprise. Also, remember all that parity that was said to be happening with NIL and the portal? Looks like an SEC/Big-10 invitational. Next
Tennessee had the second best defense in the SEC yet they got stomped on and couldn’t stop anything. How is that not a surprise? Unless of course you know the SEC has a soft conference that doesn’t play defense, but it seems a lot of people didn’t know that lol
@@datwolverine the statistics are inflated. Indiana has the #1 run defense and how many yards did they allow? Tennessee didn’t play South Carolina and Missouri this year. and they might’ve lost those games. they waved the white flag in the middle of the 3rd. they have a freshman QB. 5 new corners. the way they play empty with spies on defense only works for so many teams they played against.
@ Indiana didn’t get beat like Tennessee (who beat the frauds that are Alabama). Fact is the SEC is a soft conference that has benefited from bias for years. Indianas roster is predominantly made up of FCS talent and still didn’t get beat as bad as Tennessee.

I don't know biggest fraud to me was Tennessee. I thought the SEC was entitled to at least the championship game.
Every game was hard to watch

Especially since one loss was to a team that was 1-7 in conference. It's a bad look for a coach. Also Indiana lost to Ohio State by a smaller margin than Tennessee who beat Alabama who people thought should have been in over Indiana. Make it make sense.
Yes, and because of this Kirk Herbstreit owes IU a public apology.

Even their helmets can't stand the cold......that boy sure nuff got his helmet cracked😂

As a Buckeye from birth I approve this message.
Remember when the Buckeyes played LSU for the natty….in New Orleans at a “neutral” field? They should play in some domes up north.
Huh? How is it a huge advantage if none of the top four seeds are playing at home in the second round? It’s all neutral games
@@bspangenberg3002why? That doesn’t make sense
Reminder that this dude thought Indiana was up to par w notre dame. Thanks for moving the line for me klatt
SEC fans are having trouble accepting that the times are changing…
Texas won by 2 touchdowns
And since when is losing by 10 an uncompetitive blowout? That's 1-2 plays going differently
@MRGRINCH323 But it was a one possession game late
@@Timidor23It was competitive in the same way Texas was the first time against Georgia. Clemson did not quit and Cade played a good game, but it took 1 play for Texas to go back to 14 points after it briefly became a 1 score game.
@@Timidor23it was a one possession game for 57 seconds of ingame time
What happens when the SEC goes north into the cold? They get dominated like a Highschool team. No wonder the SEC lobbied the NCAA for years to avoid playing outside of SEC territory. They can't travel. I have not seen southerners get beat so bad north of the Mason/Dixon line since Gettysburg '63. In the Big North Conference, we are not just geographically above the SEC. The Rose Bowl, the granddaddy of them all, this year is basically the National Championship game, by far the two best teams, Oregon and Ohio State. Hey SEC, Don't be going to play games up north, there be wolves.
The master of copy and paste.

Its the same temp in Columbus as it is in Knoxville.
The big 10 was 3 and now 4 teams. 2 great, 2 good.
The sec for the longest time had the 2 best and a deeper conference. They still have a deeper conference. Outside of the top 4 big ten schools, might as well be mountain west
Can’t wait to see you pick against Notre Dame again for round 2!
Who has picked against Notre Dame every game this year? They will never be good enough for him.
YOU PICKED INDIANA TO BEAT NOTRE DAME-YEA-YOUR A REAL EXPERT……
Tennessee had 108 yards passing and gave up 42 points...worst of any team. The SEC got exposed according to ESPN logic
This is a great take. We finally get a college football playoff and there is nothing but sore losers. I throughly enjoyed every game. I love this format!
The Indiana at Notre Dame game was not a good game. Let’s be honest. Maybe you thoroughly enjoy bad football played in a non-competitive game. 🤷🏾♂️
With that said, the bracket set up will be tweaked in future years to make for more competitive opening round games and round of eight games.
thanks for being a voice of reason in this new era of CFB, appreciate all your commentary and football IQ
It just means more.. up north
Hahaha, gotta love that SEC branding!
Stop with 12 teams.. no automatic byes.. automatic bids yes. Home games for the 2 first round byes. Lets have fun
8 with no byes would be the best

Joel Klatt is far superior to Josh Pate because he isn't an sec hack. You are what your record says you are for those who actually win their games vs. those who lose to ou - Florida - Kentucky. Just win your games and you will get in.
There are things I dont like about Pate but above all else he is a realist. Klatt is on here being naive and pretending like the Indianas and SMUs actually have a "chance to win the title" like cmon lol
Should be 2, 4, 6 or 8 teams.
Michigan alum here, and I largely confer. I'll substitute "mentally ill" for a variety of reasons, for...a passionate, rabid, and at times too fanatical of a fanbase. #goblue #goB1G
The first time i heard the SEC chant during the game I was like the MFs in here disrespecting us whole they're losing!?
Nope, OSU fans being even more petty.
Love it.

Tennessee didnt have Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant to hold OSU in check (both passing and running) with a 4 men front.
@@davewatkins1970 Mgoblog had a whole UFR post refuting this claim. OSU tried to do other stuff, but it did get wrecked by UMs defense, too.
Double Smith. It’s not rocket science.
The first round was phenomenal. SEC is what was, the Big Ten is what is. Bama should've taken their anger out on Oklahoma and Vandy, not on the committee. SMU just ran into the PSU buzz saw.
OSU purposely not "playing their best" all season in preparation for a playoff run? Come on Klatt..😂
Great insight Joel. You are one of many reasons why I enjoy college football!
This weekend showed us that 12 teams is too many! Teams 9-12 had no business being in the playoff and it showed
I agree 💯 and they are wanting to make it 14 or 16 now. Why??? Other than money
I would argue team 12 put up a pretty good fight
Outstanding Joel. Fair and fresh analysis. Level headed too. I just subscribed to the channel because our it. (And no, I’m not a Big Ten guy, SEC fans.).
Great breakdown of the first round. Looking forward to the games next week!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Tenn, Oregon, Texas, Georgia.. Go Bucks. The hard way is the only way
10-2 in the SEC is not comparable to 10-2 in the B1G.
tOSU showed that last night.
As a Michigan fan those sec chants from the buckeyes were hilarious
indiana had 1 loss in the Big 10 and got absolutely routed.
It was a great game last night good atmosphere Tennessee fans thx for being respectful.O.H.
I.O.
I’ve never been more interested in college football. The playoff will evolve and only get better. I also think the format will make teams and other conferences elevate their schedule over time. Win win.

Cade Klubnik was a top 3 QB in this playoff without question to me. Dude is a playmaker and I'd only assume he'll be in Heisman contention next season
Parity is absolutely at an all-time high right now in the sport. If you don't see it you simply aren't paying attention. See: Indiana's first 10 win season in school history
