    Wow! 31 years and just tied the knot! Congratulations!! I agree: keep as much of the chrome as you can and DEFINITELY keep that steering wheel! I understand many of them lose the semicircle piece (break off) so you have a good one.... treasure it. Color: I vote for a stock color. How about green?? Peru Green, I think. Looking forward to the next one.....

    Great video Slades. The sound is so much more improved with this microphone no need to fret, everything is coming through crisp and clear. A really nice period correct color for a 1968 is Delta Green. My 1968 is Delta Green and it “pops”. Will send you some pictures of my Bug for you to see and maybe help you decide on a good color for you and Heather. Keep these videos coming, I really enjoy them. Hello, Slade. Check the Samba for 1968 original colors, and pick one of those. Also, the hinge on the pop outs is supposed to be tight. Don’t worry about the fact that the hinge is a little hard to close. And have fun replacing that pop out rubber (use Wolfsburg West). You have to stretch the rubber to fit easier in the grooves, then push it in with a non-marring piece of plastic (I used the yellow plastic cheese that’s on on mousetrap), then massage the rubber back into shape (unstretch it), a few inches at a time. Don’t use lube, just make sure the track is clean.

    • @SladesVWBeetle
      @SladesVWBeetle  2 года назад

      Thank you so much my friend! I always admire that you take the time out, to help with advice. Without you I could’ve never got that sunroof adjusted properly. I will never forget how patient you were with me.
      I watched Chris do the rubber on the pop outs…it did not look fun at all.
      I do like Wolfsburg west, I like purchasing my rubbers from there, they seem to be a better quality. Thank you so much for all of the tips.

    • @michaeld.3779
      @michaeld.3779 2 года назад

      @@SladesVWBeetle,Tony, I think I saw that Chris Valone video. Maybe that’s the one where the guy used WD-40 for lube. I tried that and it was a slippery mess, with the rubber not going into the groove.
      I found that if you start with the rubber’s seam in the middle of the front side of the glass and after getting the center in the groove, you kind of hold the rubber with a thumb, so it won’t slip out of the groove. Then you stretch the rubber a bit-which thins out the rubber so it fits in the grove easier. You do this while pressing in the rubber into the groove with the plastic mousetrap cheese slice. After a few inches, you pull the stretched rubber back into its normal shape. If you don’t put the rubber back to its normal, unstretched, shape, you’ll end up with way too much rubber when you reach the end of it. Don’t do too much at a time. Just a few inches, and you’ll be fine. Take note that even when done, the rubber will have a few waves in it, even after you’ve pulled and rearranged it all round the groove. Don’t worry. The waves will disappear soon enough-a few weeks.

      Hi Scotty, I hope you’ve been doing well. I bought that exhaust system for the last car, and ended up never using it.
      I’m probably gonna end up putting it on the craigslist, sadly it’s brand new.

    Do you think you can clean the headliner so it looks new-ish? Especially given you plan to restore and repaint the entire car?

    • @SladesVWBeetle
      @SladesVWBeetle  2 года назад

      I think so Jeff, I tested a small area and it turned white pretty easily. But I think I will let Heather tackle that job. I don’t wanna ruin it.
      And of course I’m going to have to mask it off tightly when painting.

    Aww congrats, guess you can only be a rebel for so long. Chaos, keeping the chrome seems to respectable but you seem to be moving in that direction - married man, anyhow I'm thinking you should lean toward a sapphire blue, kind of like what's featured on the new ford truck. The Chrome should pop with such a rich color and the rounded features of the bug should enhance the reflection of the color. meh.
