You're a unique guy Nick in so many ways, I'm not really into knives yet I find myself drawn into every video because of your presentation and personality, family always comes first, thank you ....stay safe
We do what we feel we must Nick . I recently came back to help my aging parents (80s) because of a promise I made years ago . I m still running a business and working around here daily but I have more time and have been doing knives again after being away for 20 years . Things have changed quite a bit from the 80 s and 90 s and it feels like a good time in history to be into knives . Respect to the person who does and says what they want on their channel .
Hey Nick. I'm proud of you for making the difficult choice to prioritize your well-being! This video is definitely not a surprise; you've been talking about these pressures for a long while, and the situation -- and your decision -- is exceptionally understandable. (I wholeheartedly assumed this was what your "new channel background leather" video was going to be about, which I assume was the tongue-in-cheek gag the whole time. 😝) While I understand and trust that you're not truly "going anywhere," it still feels like a turning point to formally, officially, intentionally take a step back. And that intentionality is also why I believe you'll pull it off and find the right balance! As someone with a very busy life who is now a year into his own YT channel, these honest, one-way conversations about burnout and competing interests and fitting a successful hobby (channel or otherwise) into your life have been very helpful for me in my own thinking and approach. I still feel like I'm barely treading water half the time, but I've really appreciated being able to learn from your experiences and candor. And again, I know you're not "going anywhere," but this still feels like a good time to thank you, in general, for the countless hours of information, inspiration, and entertainment you've provided me, and all of us. I've said many times to many people that you are, without a doubt, the main reason I fell into this hobby as hard as I did. After decades of avoiding the hobby, turned off by its machismo and bravado, your videos were the first time I saw myself truly reflected here. I'm a huge, lighthearted nerd, a lover of wordplay, and someone who always wants to take something apart to figure out how and why it works. Further, your videos were the first time I saw content about the small details I actually wanted to know. I was hooked. So as such, I'm _really glad_ you're not actually "going anywhere," but I wholeheartedly understand and empathize with your choice, and I trust you will find the balance you need.
Thank you so much for comprehensively while still relatively succinctly saying the exact points and sentiment that I would like to extend to Nick. This comment here is just a big "what he said"!! ⬆️😁
@@KnifeNerdery "relatively " 🤣 being the operative word. Each paragraph had a distinct point without belaboring the explanation. I will admit though, the reason I love watching your stuff is because you do tend to (as some would call) "over explain". That's when I learn all the little tidbits that only another nerd could appreciate. I did want to share with you my empathy with the whole aggro feel to the knife world of yesteryear. I felt the same about it as you. I was even in the military and could have easily fit in, but still wasn't feeling the vibe around the knife world. That's why I appreciate so much Nick's channel (as you stated) your's and many of the new up and comers that have a different kind of appreciation for knives than the old "Cold Steel" vibe. Don't get me wrong, I do like Cold Steel (yay Demco!!), just thought that was the best way to describe the old aura around the knife world. Really happy with more Knife Nerdery and a bit less Lynn Thompson vibes. 😆
I'm in line with your logic, Nick. It hits home, even at my relatively modest channel level - my video a day is a challenge that wrestles with age and job & home responsibilities. You are a benchmark and mainstay in our knife community. Stay sharp! 👊🗡️🔥🗡️
I’ve learned so much from you and watched so many videos. I value your opinion a good deal. I hope to see you still uploading and wish you luck in your ventures. I hope to see you one day find the time to upload more again. Thanks for the knowledge/opinions and laughs as always.
Nick, I have very much enjoyed watching your reviews and in a way I subconsciously consider the good, the great, the bad, and the ugly whenever evaluating new gear based on many of the perspectives you have shared over the years. Best of luck and hope to see you around Batman!!
A class act as always. You started my appreciation of good EDC for this reason. I agree it’s hard to keep up these days when we are drowning in gems. Let’s all slow down a little!
Content suffers when you burn out… not to mention quality of life. Take care of yourself & your family first and make the hobbies secondary! Thanks for the years of shining freakin’ gems!
You taught me a lot about knives. I appreciate that. You also gave some interesting takes about the EDC world in general. Ive learned a fair bit from ya, and you have my thanks for the info.
Nick, you are the one who lead me down the Spyderco trail over 4 years ago. I hope for the best for you in your future endeavors and enjoy the extra time with the wife. All of life is getting as crazy as the edc community lately. Thank you for your time and for giving me so many moments of joy. Your puns and secrecy will be missed by so many.
Dang, I just checked and realized I started watching you nealy 10 years ago brother. I haven't watched in a bit due to exactly what you're bringing up. I told my wife tonight ehen I pulled up one of your videos though, "I realized I missed my friend." You're spot on about how the RUclips environment has changed. For the record, to answer your question - you're my favorite RUclipsr.
Nick, you are a class act Sir. When your hobbies become demanding and stressful it's not fun anymore. Take care of you and yours. Thanks for all your contributions!!!
Hey Nick, your love of gear has fostered my love of gear. You have been fairly responsible for me spending thousands of dollars on knives. ( not a bad thing ) I've found your disassembly videos a fountain of knowledge. Yours was the first channel I found when I got into knives and wanted to figure out how to take apart my pm2 all the years ago. I understand that there is only so many hours in the day to do the stuff that you need to do, so do what you need to do and we'll see you in the next video whenever that may be. Btw I love the puns!!
Its been a blast Nick! You gotta do what you gotta do, life comes first a super respectful choice I'll continue to keep watching any video you post! Good luck 👍👍
I feel you, Nick, and understand the struggle. Thanks for getting me into knives as a wonderful distraction when COVID hit us. Thanks for being kind and responsive during a couple of fleeting interactions. Best of luck to you my friend.
Thanks for all the great content so far. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that your channel has played a key role in bringing a new crop of knife and gear reviewers to the table. As an early subscriber I'll always be looking forward to your content. Even if life is taking a nick out of how much you can release, it's still a beautiful thing to see your perspective here.
You are by far my favorite gear reviewer. I do understand that you need to do what is best for you and yours. Will still click every time I see a new video from you, and thank you for all the content over the years.
One key to life I believe in Nick is enjoy what you enjoy doing when you enjoy doing it. No stress Nick enjoy life all the way through it's too short not to enjoy everyday that you can. I'll see you on your next review looking forward to it take care.
Your were my first, and still are my favorite knife RUclipsr, Nick. I wouldn’t have gotten into knives without falling into the hole of watching your reviews. Best wishes, and I hope to still hear from you every once and a while!
I just started getting into folding knives while going through physical therapy. Thanks to Neeves Knives for my 1st excellent gateway knife folder with extras supplies to experiment with. Thank you Mr. Shabazz and the rest of YTrs for kindly showing me different aspect of this community as I continue to watch years of backlogged videos. Looking forward to more information now and the future. Thank you. 😊
Thanks for all the work Nick. If you want to scale it back a bit, you scale it back a bit, you don't owe us anything. We'll take whatever crumbs we can get.
Thanks for everything you have brought to the knife community. I’m relatively new as a knife collector and I have learned a lot from your reviews. Take care of yourself.
Nick you will always be a true GEM to this community. Like a real diamond your shine will never dull over time. From the first video of yours i saw i loved your honesty and humor. And no matter how little you post in the future, that will in no way affect the value of your videos or how much we appreciate your opinion. ❤
Thank you Nick for all the Good, Great, Bad and Ugly.. You have done a great job. You brought honesty, education, humor, style and dignity to a corner of RUclips. If your content goes to a video a month we will still check in. You emphasis on other content creators during this video was inspirational. We all have precious little time.
Thanks so much for your quality and integrity through the years Nick. You don’t know most of us, you just make the video and fire it off into the ether. But I’m here to tell you - we sure feel like we’ve gotten to know you. And I for one appreciate your honesty, diligence and yes even the corny jokes. You’re the benchmark for this genre as far as I’m concerned. You changed the industry my friend. Remember those chunky ZTs that were a glorified pry bar? Ya - so do I! I’m glad makers have had to adapt to your philosophy that a knife should actually, you know, cut stuff. Thank you so much for all the information over all these years. I bought a Slycz Bowie back in the day before they were discontinued, used the heck out of it, and love it still to this day. I’m glad you’ll still be posting content, and wish you the very best in your personal life and pursuits. Not goodbye, just “see ya around”
Hey Nick good for you. You've done so much amazing work for the knife community and you deserve to reclaim your time and dial things back. We'll still be watching. As far as other channels I love, ones that come to mind are Neeves Knives, Beez Blades, the Knife Beater, Canadian Cutting Edge, and Metal Complex. There are certainly others but these are probably my favorites.
Thanks for al that you have done. You really are the first person I think of when considering a knife purchase. I check to see if you happen to have a video on it! Also, some of you videos inspire to make a purchase..... (winterblade) That will sew discourse in my family life. Ohh she hated that bill coming in!! But wait till she shes it in 8 months!!! She will probably still hate it. But I love it! Thanks to you!! Good luck sir. Still will be watching out for your uploads!!!!
Slowing down is something wise and advisable. Thank you for explaining it. What I see is we as viewers/subscribers will still enjoy a lot, whether it is once per week or less, while you will be able to balance things. So it is good all in all!
Even Moses once said, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." There are only 24 hours in a day, we must learn to use them wisely (especially once we get married and have children). And a huge thank you for all you've done over the years!
You were the first reviewer that I ran into some years ago when I started collecting. I subscribed to your voice quite honestly. It's entertainment in its own right, and subsequently, one of the reasons I started my own channel. I'm doing it for the same reason you started doing it, because it's my hobby and I enjoy it. I love the fact that you did this for the love of all things edc. I commend you for bringing honesty and integrity to the table. There are many reviewers out there who took from the pages of the Nick Shabazz "book" (which I think you should write) and are fortunate enough to be able to create success with their channels. But, that road was paved by you. Through it all, you stayed humble and true to yourself. I hope you are proud of your accomplishments what you helped shape for so many others. Congratulations on a semi-retirement and the family life! I'll be happily awaiting any videos you do, as it will be similar to catching a glance of an endangered species 😉 🤟!
Hey nick. Another word of support and thanks. Glad to hear you're only "cutting back", and that you know enough to prioritize your health and the activities that actually pay your living. You have been my major source of information as I got into collecting, and your videos an inspiration. Look forward to still hearing from you on occasion. - Old Fart
2-4 videos a week is a lot of content, so I can only imagine how exhausting that can get. I can only thank you for all the amazing content over the years, and wish you nothing but success at whatever you have coming up next, because I know that you will be just as great as you are around here. I will still look forward to your videos whenever they drop! Thank you for the heads up, and everything else.
It’s been an honor to follow and pick up some knives. I ordered my Sebenza and it is on a 18 month list to get .This will be a last knife because I have wanted one forever!
It took multiple videos for me to get into ur reviews Nick, but I have been an avid viewer for years now. Taking time for ur sanity and family completely makes sense and we are behind u. Will continue to watch and wish u the best as u try to balance everything!!
Big thanks for all your great work. You have been my number 1 go-to reviewer since my knife obsession started. While I sincerely hope to see some, even if more infrequent jackassery in the future, I completely understand and respect your decision. Stay great!
Mr Shabazz!!! I appreciate everything you do! thank you for everything you have done for the community! including your give aways and your help with donations! I'll always be excited to see new posts from the real Batman!
You have always had something worthwhile saying and this decision will only increase that,so many of these creators though they didn't at first seem to be marketing departments for many of the knife companies like you said several years ago in one of your video's ( great just what we need another Chinese knife to review) I'm old school less is more, all the best, looking forward to future video's, ps hope this is a beginning of a trend

Thanks for what you’ve done, best wishes on future ventures! 😎👍
A gem if there ever was one, Props on making a sound decision for your family and keeping us entertained the whole time.
Thank you for all of the content and entertainment throughout the years Nick!
Nick, I have very much enjoyed watching your reviews and in a way I subconsciously consider the good, the great, the bad, and the ugly whenever evaluating new gear based on many of the perspectives you have shared over the years. Best of luck and hope to see you around Batman!!
U have been a legend and thank you for all the entertainment you have given me all these years
A class act as always.
I told my wife tonight ehen I pulled up one of your videos though, "I realized I missed my friend."
You're spot on about how the RUclips environment has changed.
( not a bad thing )
I've found your disassembly videos a fountain of knowledge.
Always look forward to seeing your content whenever you get to post Nick! Wish you all the best. Thanks for putting yourself out there.
Hey, I'm just glad you're going to be around, albeit it in smaller quantities. Thank you for all the great content, and for the entertainment. 👏👏👏
Its been a blast Nick! You gotta do what you gotta do, life comes first a super respectful choice I'll continue to keep watching any video you post! Good luck 👍👍
Thank you so much for your work - and for being a kind and empathetic person as well!❤️🖤
I feel you, Nick, and understand the struggle.
Appreciate all you do. Thanks Nick.
Thank you for shaping my introduction to the EDC community. You've done a great job with every video.
Your were my first, and still are my favorite knife RUclipsr, Nick. I wouldn’t have gotten into knives without falling into the hole of watching your reviews. Best wishes, and I hope to still hear from you every once and a while!
You are a Legend and we are all behind you! Thank you and may you keep being a very lucky Man! 🙂🤙🏴☠️
I will miss you Nick! You've been very influential in my gear journey and I am very thankful for that. Stay healthy!
Nick is the gold standard. A lot of brands owe this man.
Long-time listener. Thanks for your content, Nick. Stay loose, life is much richer than gear. I appreciate you.
Respect your decision and proud to continue following you. Cheers to you and your family👍
You are a pillar on which this community has been built. Thank you for all that you do for us.
Well done, Nick.
That’s why we love you and your channel.
Hey Nick, good luck and thanks for all the positivity you brought to the community. I think you’re wise not to go “all in” on RUclips.
Thanks for everything so far, man!
I really appreciate all you have given us
Thank you all the energy and effort. Take the time you need and I'll be happy when you are able to share your thoughts
I love what you've been doing. I enjoy seeing the best couple knives to buy each year and I trust your judgement the most of any reviewer.
Your vids have helped me, especially your reviews of "support" hardware like sharpeners. I'll always keep an eye out for your vids.
Also, an occasional "bad knives" video would be fun.
I learned a lot from you Nick. I appreciate what you brought to the community
Hope all goes well sir. Love your channel, and will miss your videos. Do what ya love, love what ya do!
Much respect to you, Nick. I’m still so grateful for your presence in the community.
I will miss your dissasembly videos.. but I understand.. Thank you Nick. for all that you have done
Thanks for all you have done Nick. I will continue to enjoy your work no matter how ogten you post.
We're going to support you & your channel no matter what... You gotta live your life! There's so many knife & gear channels out there that we can find information on just about anything. RUclips channels are a lot of work. You gotta take time to smell the 🌹 roses.
You represent the common man. We all want the newest toy, but do we? You share in our addiction and share your thoughts. Value for our money and time is usually our goal. You always deliver on that. Thank you !
