More power, more flexibility, more samples, more everything-Digitakt II ushers in a new era for Elektron's Digi series, further cementing itself as the premier powerhouse sampler and sequencer centerpiece of any studio or performing setup. Use any combination of its 16 tracks for audio mangling or MIDI sequencing, customize the audio path with deeper flexibility, and enjoy expanded Elektron sequencing power.
While Digitakt II boasts a lot of new features, one thing that hasn't changed is the ease of sampling audio from external instruments, resampling Digitakt's output, or streaming audio from a connected USB source. But finally: Digitakt II allows you to work with stereo samples (though of course, classic mono samples are still supported too), offering more opportunities for immersive ambiences among driving rhythms. The audio editing experience remains streamlined and yet flexible enough to trim your samples just right.
Originally introduced in a firmware update for the original model, Digitakt II's Machines provide a variety of different ways to control the playback of your source material. Options like Oneshot, Werp, Stretch, Repitch, and Grid traverse the spectrum from traditional sampler workflows to time stretching and beyond. From there, further manipulations like the playback loop range, tuning, playback directions, and more become available depending on your machine selection. Even without considering the other filters, effects, and sequencer control that the rest of Digitakt II has to offer, samples can be radically transformed into totally new sounds with astounding speed.
However, Machine selection isn't the full extent of track customization that Digitakt II has to offer. The classic Elektron base-width filter returns but is also joined by a new filter section with multiple types that can be selected. Shape sounds with multi-mode, lowpass 4, comb, EQ, or the legacy LP/HP-any and all of which allow you to transform samples in a variety of ways. Envelopes and panning controls allow you to sculpt new amplitude curves and position sounds in space. Still want more? The original Digitakt's delay and reverb effects are joined by bit reduction, sample reduction, chorus, and overdrive for each track. Three LFOs per track make it easy to add movement to any sound you sculpt.
Digitakt II's expanded sound and effects engine is accompanied by Elektron's deep sequencing capability, now supercharged with more steps and fun tricks for generating patterns and turning them into fully arranged pieces. The same basic Elektron workflow is here, letting you program sample triggers in grid mode or record patterns live using the chromatic keyboard mode. Micro-timing keeps the feel flexible, while Elektron's parameter lock feature excels as always, with even more sound devices to control per-step.
Steps have been increased to 128, giving you twice the amount of room for creating variations. Since each track on Digitakt can have a separate track length, near-endless polyrhythmic possibilities emerge. New in Digitakt II are euclidean sequencing features, allowing you to quickly spread sample triggers over a given step length to create generative rhythms with danceable polyrhythmic energy. Once you've created variations and a few parts you like, easily chain patterns together in Song Mode to create full tracks.
The immense sound-bending and sequence-crafting power of Digitakt II will quickly earn a spot as the centerpiece to many studio set-ups. Knowing this, Elektron has provided ample data storage and processing power in the Digitakt II, keeping heaps of your favorite sounds at the ready. 1024 samples may be saved to any single project, loading up quickly and efficiently with the generous 400MB of RAM. With 20GB of internal storage, it's possible to create full live sets, albums, or collections of many sketches and jams, all within one device. As always, virtually all sound and effect parameters are open for manipulation at any time, letting you iteratively create and control samples, triggers, effects settings, mixer settings, and more.
Thanks to the Machines system, any track may be switched from a sample-based audio track to a MIDI control track, allowing you to use Digitakt II's expansive sequencing to control external hardware or software devices. In addition to arranging pitch and rhythmic information, parameter locks and LFOs may be sent as CC values, giving the Elektron treatment to any MIDI-capable gear imaginable. Another great reason to make Digitakt II the heart of your set-up, its MIDI sequencing capabilities rival standalone sequencing units-all while also happening to be one of the greatest sampler instruments of all time.
