    Ryan and other bush pilots in Papua New Guinea (PNG🇵🇬) are heroes for many in the remotest areas.

      Literally life and death for a lot. No doubt.

      @@Aerospace_Education of course it is, often on a daily basis.
      For many of the pilots often receive heroes welcome by many of those remote local communities. Often gifts and food are given to the pilots as a show of appreciation to their service.

    Ryan has the best pilot flying vlogs on RUclips PERIOD. He's flying in and out of some of the most dangerous airports in PNG daily and somehow while he's doing this he's communicating every aspect of flying his aircraft, weather, terrain and the people. There is absolutely zero waste of time aspects to his work. It's just all amazing. It's difficult to sum up Papua New Guinea, It's very close to Australia's north but it's a completely wild country where remote village living relies heavily on aircraft. It's a country of incredible natural wealth, beauty and dangers.

      Absolutely. It is also a beautiful place. Gotta love the professionalism to do that safely everyday.

    Bob, Ryan's videos are simply "seat of the pants" flying. The bush, the weather, the airstrips, amongst other things, combine to make them so, so interesting. Ryan's commentary is always engaging and covers not just flying in PNG, but what he's doing as a missionary pilot with the local communities.

    • @Aerospace_Education
      @Aerospace_Education  3 года назад

      I agree, he also has an incredible professionalism to single pilot flying. He may be doing it for the camera but how he briefs what he's doing is one of the things GA can learn from corporate flying.

    Ryan helps put to rest the old stereotype many have of the bush pilot as a seat-of-the-pants-only, reckless, devil-may-care aviator of a few decades ago. What he shows is a safe meeting of training, skills, learned behavior, diligence, and professionalism. And these are combined with native, seat-of-the-pants ability that matters when the situation is going pear-shaped.
    The same is true of the Kodiak, which combines huge power with just one engine, with an airframe designed for the bush, and with much greater reliability than a piston engine.
    Combine that with a big dose of charisma and you have a person you'd like to fly with -- but can't, of course, except vicariously. And Ryan makes that happen.
    One thing that wasn't brought up is that Ryan also reportedly earned an A&P license along his training route. And he's a motorcyclist, which seems to occur so often to pilots....

    • @Aerospace_Education
      @Aerospace_Education  3 года назад +1

      I’ve never flown in a Kodiak. At first I thought it was a Caravan. Cool fact about the A&P. Didn’t know that.

    • @ENergyJimP
      @ENergyJimP 3 года назад

      @@Aerospace_Education most mission aviation pilots are A&Ps as well. It comes in real handy in the middle of no where. Most agencies require it.

    The Kodiak 100 was designed to replace Cessna 185s and 206s. Replace avigas with kerosene. It can get into strips the Caravan can't.

    • @Aerospace_Education
      @Aerospace_Education  3 года назад

      It's interesting to see the conversion discussions of engines from avgas to JetA.

    • @ENergyJimP
      @ENergyJimP 3 года назад +2

      @@Aerospace_Education The bottom line is around the world, especially in bush locations, Jet A is more readily available than AviGas. So turbine engines have taken over from piston engines. I can remember when 206s and 185s ruled the skies in the bush, now its Caravans and Kodiaks. Ryan typifies the professionalism found among the major mission aviation agencies (MAF, Jaars, and Ethnos360). They are the most "by-the-numbers" pilots there are.

    I agree with Ryan that GA flying is boring. Learning = great fun, Instrument flying = great fun it goes on but when you get to general flying it really is boring. By the way I love the check list box, could have made one and fitted it to my own aircraft when I had them.

    • @Aerospace_Education

      Ya, the checklist box is great. It's so easy when flying by yourself to rush threw a list and miss something important. This give you a tactile and visual feedback. Thanks for watching.
