An interface update is overdue. This game deserves better, an interface update cannot possibly cost that much. We need bigger and clearer icons and buttons. 😭

I'm excited about Umbar! My guess for the new class is that it'll be something related to seafaring. They even said in the recent q&a that they're looking into giving us boats for traveling. I'm also really looking forward to the crafting overhaul - it'll be great to be able to choose which professions make sense for each character rather than having to pick a whole vocation where, inevitably, you don't need or use one of them.
I was really afraid you were semi done with Lotro content haha, not much for awhile, Love the content my friend!!!! Hope too see many more in the future! :D. I dont mind 3 boss raids, however I do think this sort of ambition is good, as long as they didn't do it in bad faith :D
The interesting thing is that SSG is planning more for 2023 than what is on the roadmap. The Executive Producer Severlin already mentioned a few other things they'd like to get done this year, including a new race, new premium housing, player boats, the start of avatar updates, a new launcher, 2FA, and more. While some of these additional items may get mothballed (which is why they're not on the roadmap), there's a very real possibility that SSG could, in fact, overdeliver this year. The fact that SSG's other game, is having a somewhat quieter year (while still being pretty content-packed) may suggest a plan to alternate focus each year (which means a lot more shared resources can be spent on LOTRO this year). All that said, I do think it's healthy to apply some caution. For example, LOTRO's expansion raids have often come a month or two later than the expansions themselves, though the roadmap does suggest the aim is for them to come together this time. Yet I think even if SSG could only deliver 80% of what they're promising for 2023, it will prove to be a very content-filled year.
LOTRO needs another stealth class. There are 2 casters (RK + LM), 2 tanks (GRD + WDN), 3 melee dps (BRW + CHM + BRG), 2 healers (MIN + RK) and 2 ranged dps (RK + HNT). Some of them are multi-role. But there's only one stealth class. I want to see a stealth ranged DPS class, like an Ithilien ranger.
It's certainly interesting. I can't recall Turbine, Turbine/WB or SSG ever presenting their plans with this level of detail. If they can deliver against this and at least meet some of the player base's expectations then they will be doing well.
It was different times though, none of us were thinking we were so entitled and deserving of that type of attention back then. We just wanted good games.

We really need some UI changes for 4k monitors. I love this game so much but having this struggle with 4K really turns me away from it as of late. 4K is becoming almost a norm lately and it’s hard to see the game not adapt
I really get the impression that you are are a professional when it is about marketing. I really love when you analisis about public perception etc., I think it would be a great idea if you could dive deeper into those topics. Either by analisying the marketing of games/mmos or look at how to fix marketing of certain games. I feel like that would be very interesting and unique videos since I barley see videos going into this direction. That is one of the reasons why I enjoy your videos so much! Great video ! The two things I’m still awaiting for SSG to address is Graphics overhaul and a console port. Severlin has only briefly talked about updating art. So I’m just like man, maybe there is no graphics overhaul despite all the leaks and meeting roadmaps we saw like 2 years ago. I’m just wishing SSG would tell us if these are warranted rumors or just rumors that need to be shut down. Either tell us yes it’ may be coming or say nope that’s not gonna happen. 😊
About WOW raids. There are usually at least three big raids in one expansion, released with patches throughout two years. (Extensions release every 2 years) This raids contain 9+ bosses. Sometimes small raid with 2-3 bosses are released between the big ones.
The topic of lag was addressed in the follow-up Q&A and we were in Phase 2, at least at the time of the stream, and it was focused on quests and how having accumulated many, many quests on characters are a cause of lag.
I am always excited when game studios take a shot in the dark, thats how games evolve to be even better. Some of my favorite games would have never have existed without experimentation, like AC 4 and halo. Im glad a smaller developer like SSG has the guts to do this. I think it will be very profitable for them and better the game all together. I love all the work you’ve put in, you make my day whenever i see brightlife has uploaded. Ty for the LOTRO coverage! It is an ambitious year I agree. As someone who loves just general new area questing, I do not see a ton in here for me so far, but I'm excited to see the apparent investment in the agme - that's always a plus.
It is indeed Ambitious, there are other things too they want to do this year that's not in the Roadmap, as it could get pushed back to a later time, such as Avatar updates for Race of Man, new River Hobbit Race and a new Premium Housing Neighborhood, I think its great they left some stuff out of the Roadmap and just told us via livestream, so they don't promise too much then what they can already handle.
Great video . I wish they would do a level squish as when new players come in they see that 3 digit level cap and i think it deters the new player from coming in and playing the game .
Every time it's come up in a q&a they sound pretty firmly against a level squish. And I get it, the point of LOTRO is really the journey of leveling, not endgame.
I get why some would like this, but personally I'm vehemently against a level squish. It would negatively affect a lot of the game in ways that I think a lot of players don't think about, including questing and deeding, not to mention likely contribute to a lot more players skipping whole swathes of content altogether (which they can already do through a Valar if they are absolutely adamant on jumping to end-game). I think more would be lost than gained with a level squish.
I think it's good that a roadmap has been presented. I hope they can keep the promises, but what about the graphics update? There should be at least a re-vamp. As a European, I don't notice anything about the Lagfix either, it's still cruel. But overall, I'm looking forward to exploring Umbar! This will be a completely new landscape! Overall, I am very happy that Lotro is still being worked on so actively :)
I really want to see them completely fix the lag and desync and what not. One of my major gripes with the game. Also the visual overhaul would be amazing too. Would love to see this game flourish. I think we also need a streamline of the questing and what not. The leveling is ridiculously convoluted if you aren't a seasoned veteran (which I am not at all). Doing something to make the leveling process more enticing would be big for getting new players as well. I imagine people look into and see holy crap, I have to go from level 1 to whatever the cap is now, 180 or something? That's INSANE lol. Rambling over.

I'm the same with video games as I am with movies. I never go into playing or watching anything with set expectations or thoughts based on anything. I go in with a clear mind of let's see if this can entertain me or not. The problem nowadays is that I don't feel a lot of people do that, regardless no matter what SSG does they will never be able to make everyone happy. And it's not realistic to think or expect that they could. To conclude my ramble though I'm very excited for this year and to go to Umbar!!! I'm sure the class will be sea related but man I would really love a Ranger type class. A full melee/range hybrid would be awesome. The fact they have outlined their ambitious intentions at the beginning of the year and that they are no small feats has been enough to get me to commit and invest my time in this game, starting so late in it's life. It's clearly got a passionate fan base, and I hope they get to tick off all their achievements to otherwise show up companies like Zenimax :P
To really pull in the players they need to sort the lag and upgrade the graphics to bring it up to par, in my opinion. For me the graphics on the whole are fine, but when mmo players in general are looking at games I think a lot are looking for a higher quality, like Ashes of Creation styles. It will be a huge job to do a gfx overhaul. Good to see the vids coming out. Cheers
I love the idea that you hop in in the middle of the week and just talk about some upcoming MMO updates. I think it’s a good thing that SSG is taking more risks. It has been kinda boring. But since Before the Shadow I think that SSG really wants to improve and add some more amazing content for the players.
Really good video. As a new player I'm trying to find all I can about this game. One thing I would be interested to know is what you mean by having raids feel like real raids. I came from WOW and still play ff14 and I generally prefer raids that don't require 6 to 10 hours to progress in them with long halls of just trash mobs in them. I suspect that games like WOW that have really long raids are way too much of a time sink for the average MMO player nowadays. A lot of us don't have the time due to real life stuff. Keep in mind that I am a new player and really don't know what raids are like in LOTRO. I'm not trying to mean, I am just generally curious. Thanks for reading my comment.
I'm a lifer too loved Moria to me the best expansion in any game but the Filikul raid is really short I was also a beta tester biggest thing for me is running it at 4k play on my 4k 46in tv so sweet and you can't enlarge your bags and text besides that it is so good even with dated graphics and last thing the Lore of the game is the biggest selling factor imo
instances and raids that don't have the reflect mechanic cos its horrible when you go to hit and without notice the debuff pops and your dmg kills you. plus make the raids melee friendly its a pain there is so much content than penalise the melee class like champ. A balance needed where mechanics penalise melee classes and then switching to a mechanic that penalises range classes therefore some positional/ other tactics are used.
sadly we already got confermation the raids will be 3 bosses they dont like the idea of 6boss raids anymore aparently players "dont have the time to do 6boss raids "
Aww no! That’s so sad. Maybe I’m in the minority here - I’ve always thought that big raids differentiate themselves from dungeons by being vast and difficult. What do you think?

If SSG would add real EU servers I would absolutely play LOTRO. It's hard to get into a game where you have over 100ms ping and when the servers are loaded it gets even worse.
The concern needs to be the same as it was last year leading to Rings of Power.. The population of the game is still low in comparison to the rest of the games in the space. Many things are still behind a pay wall and some aspects of that could be seen as p2w. There either needs to be a big drive for a population increase or work needs to be done to make some of the towns not feel so dead. Life time sub or not, the game will always be the one with more potential then the others but sadly not too many people around to see it.
I love LoTRO was Bjorn Bear tank and miss it.. That being said the lag spikes HAVE GOT to be fixed for me to ever come back I cannot mention how annoying they are.. It is good though that LoTRO is even getting content anymore at all for how old the game is not to mention after all the upheavel the community has went through as the game was thrown around the block mulitple times. I am happy LoTRO players are finding some sort of stability these days.
Not sure I like the idea of a power revamp. DPS just feels bad when they can't do anything, whether through skill or debuffs. Healers should have to worry to some degree, but shouldn't outside of enemies like raid bosses without things going FUBAR. I'd rather see some class rebalancing with more put in to skills using alternate resources, like focus for hunters. Puts you more in to a build/spend dynamic, but it seems to be the more modern approach.
Since I started pIaying Iotro crafting has aIways been my main objective and motivation to pIay the game I have a Iot of toons with good if not max standing with the guiIds, aIways searching for materiaIs, aIways upgrading weapons, jeweIs and armor with the max possibIe IeveI crafted by me, that is untiI the fangorn/of the deep stuff, IeveI 85 if I can recaII correctIy, crafting basicaIIy is non existent and useIess after, and I've aIways found it a HUGE Iet down for me, I'm a soIo pIayer, I never do raids, instances, skirmishes, if they take away crafting aII it's Ieft for me is the epic quests and some random quests around, which is not much to be honest to keep pIaying an mmo since it requires so much time and effort to IeveI soIo questing, very, very happy that things wiII change
LoTR online fell from its Ivory tower once F2P and that shitty ass cash shop released. If I remember correctly I had to buy a horse and the ability to ride from the cash shop. Its monetized into the ground.
As much as I love lotro but it's never gonna be "big" again. The combat is very slow, even for tab target. The graphics are outdated and they have been promising a graphics update for so long that I don't believe it will ever come. I can live with these things but probably only because of nostalgia. The world of lotro itself is fantastic, you can immersive yourself in tolkiens world like in no other lotr game. The game is worth playing for the atmosphere alone. Sadly many people just see it as an old and outdated game past its prime. I, myself, don't visit the game as much as i used to but I always come back sooner or later, for a time.
I quit playing after 10 years when they stopped allowing me to purchase new content with LP that I paid for with my sub. That and delvings is a terrible mechanic.
I'm in a place where I've grown bored of all the beautiful modern MMORPG's because they have no personality or challenge. I want to return to LotrO because it has something special, but I just wish it were a bit more challenging and had a slight graphics upgrade. It's a game grounded in realism so I wish the gameplay felt a bit more intense and challenging, similar to Valheim.
i never played LOTRO because of lack of pvp content and terrible graphics that are clunky. The game needs a siege warfare mode so badly with territory systems. this is coming from someone who’s read almost all of tolkiens work. However if you can stand the graphics the lore in this game is top 😊tier
I love Lord of the rings but this game just ahs horrible outdated graphics and game play!!!! Beyond horrible!!! This game needs a full re-launch!!!! New grpahic engine, graphics, more engaging combat and better story stelling with cinematics!!! This is the time to for a new Lotr mmo with the new hype on amazon! 100% agree on LoTROs world building combined with sound engineering and the ambient music. It’s incredible and the reason I keep coming back.

Definitely, I’d love to see that as well! My hope is that they’re laying the foundation for a big overhaul in 2024.

lotro only has the book license, not the movie license. which means: no helm's deep elfs.

It is good though that LoTRO is even getting content anymore at all for how old the game is not to mention after all the upheavel the community has went through as the game was thrown around the block mulitple times. I am happy LoTRO players are finding some sort of stability these days.

Not sure I like the idea of a power revamp. DPS just feels bad when they can't do anything, whether through skill or debuffs. Healers should have to worry to some degree, but shouldn't outside of enemies like raid bosses without things going FUBAR.
I'd rather see some class rebalancing with more put in to skills using alternate resources, like focus for hunters. Puts you more in to a build/spend dynamic, but it seems to be the more modern approach.
yea they've been promising to fix the lag for over ten years... SSG will never fix it. They are incompetent.
Since I started pIaying Iotro crafting has aIways been my main objective and motivation to pIay the game I have a Iot of toons with good if not max standing with the guiIds, aIways searching for materiaIs, aIways upgrading weapons, jeweIs and armor with the max possibIe IeveI crafted by me, that is untiI the fangorn/of the deep stuff, IeveI 85 if I can recaII correctIy, crafting basicaIIy is non existent and useIess after, and I've aIways found it a HUGE Iet down for me, I'm a soIo pIayer, I never do raids, instances, skirmishes, if they take away crafting aII it's Ieft for me is the epic quests and some random quests around, which is not much to be honest to keep pIaying an mmo since it requires so much time and effort to IeveI soIo questing, very, very happy that things wiII change
LoTR online fell from its Ivory tower once F2P and that shitty ass cash shop released. If I remember correctly I had to buy a horse and the ability to ride from the cash shop. Its monetized into the ground.
As much as I love lotro but it's never gonna be "big" again. The combat is very slow, even for tab target. The graphics are outdated and they have been promising a graphics update for so long that I don't believe it will ever come. I can live with these things but probably only because of nostalgia. The world of lotro itself is fantastic, you can immersive yourself in tolkiens world like in no other lotr game. The game is worth playing for the atmosphere alone. Sadly many people just see it as an old and outdated game past its prime. I, myself, don't visit the game as much as i used to but I always come back sooner or later, for a time.
I quit playing after 10 years when they stopped allowing me to purchase new content with LP that I paid for with my sub. That and delvings is a terrible mechanic.
I'm in a place where I've grown bored of all the beautiful modern MMORPG's because they have no personality or challenge. I want to return to LotrO because it has something special, but I just wish it were a bit more challenging and had a slight graphics upgrade. It's a game grounded in realism so I wish the gameplay felt a bit more intense and challenging, similar to Valheim.
i never played LOTRO because of lack of pvp content and terrible graphics that are clunky. The game needs a siege warfare mode so badly with territory systems. this is coming from someone who’s read almost all of tolkiens work. However if you can stand the graphics the lore in this game is top 😊tier
I love Lord of the rings but this game just ahs horrible outdated graphics and game play!!!! Beyond horrible!!! This game needs a full re-launch!!!! New grpahic engine, graphics, more engaging combat and better story stelling with cinematics!!! This is the time to for a new Lotr mmo with the new hype on amazon! Dont udnerstand why people can play LOTRO! It looks beyond horrible! worse than windows 95 visuals
