    sup halfjack i loved ur videos and it helped me a lot in sh4 so thank you man...but i gotta ask just one question, u draw that line 500 yards and u made that angle calculation of 9* why is that and is it a necessary calculation coz i thought u should make a 20* angle for targets that are traveling under 15 knots and how to make that calculation in metric system should it be 457 m and 2835 m(yards = meters) and draw an angle... so i guess im asking would it work in metric and how to do it?

    i been watching many times and i need some help. where do u get the distance 500 yards at 5:01,and 3100 yards at 5:22 ?

      Alright, I've had a drink or three, so excuse my lack of clarity, and feel free to ask for clarifications if you need them.
      So, I tracked the vessel I was hunting's speed, which came out to 5 knots, more or less. That's because the ship travelled 500 yards in 3 minutes (I think it's 3, again, whiskey.) The torpedo's speed is 31 knots (At the lower speed), so if you reverse that into the previous format, that's 3,100 yards. (Each hundred yards in 3 minutes is 1 knot. 5 kts = 500 yards, 31 kts = 3,100 yards). That's what gives me the yard measurements.
      Is that any clearer?

      +HalfjackHJ Yes and thanks :D I doubt i will get the chance to make this shot as the ships never go as straight as here or for a long distance. but maby i just need to find a good mission where I can have the chance to try it :D

    Can you explain how you decided to calculate the angle with the 500yards/3100yards lines. I use metric and might try this from different distances so I don't understand how that part worked. Thanks buddy.

      I... I don't know if my last reply went through. And, that's simply heartbreaking because it was fairly long. First off, forgive the delay in my reply!
      Second off, the lines work so perfectly only in imperial, not metric. A ship that travels 500 yards in three minutes is travelling 5 kts. Therefore, a ship that is travelling 1,500 yards in three minutes is travelling 15 kts. I'm sure you can work out an equivalent in metric, but it won't be as neat. My torpedo travelled 31 kts, or 3,100 yards on the map to the 500 of the ship.
      With each of those distances drawn, I can use the protractor to find the angle I want to point my periscope. The distance (as long as it is within my torpedo's range) doesn't matter. Therefore, if we're 1,000 yards off, the angle will be the same as if we were 8,000 yards off.

      I hope that helped, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask! I'll check more directly next time.

      Ahh yeah I just tested it out in metric system. It's basically a ratio between trop speed and target speed. So if it's 500y and 1500y, if you make it 1000y and 3000y it will produce the same, desired angle. I think I'm going to suck it up and switch to the filthy imperial system for accuracy xD Thanks dude for taking your time for this.

    Do you have any mod installed. When do Dick Kane method, can never get a straight shot. Ship is coming from L to R. Sub is 90 degrees to ship course. When put in AOB, say wanting to have a 15 degree lead. So if 90 degrees, set AOB to 75 degrees, but when look at info, always shows distance at 3000 yds and shows torpedo gyro at 16 degrees to right of 90 degrees, an almost 31 degrees, which if shoot when ship is at cross hair on periscope, all the torpedos go in front of ship, whether on high speed or low. Is there something in the game options I need to check to correct this problem of is there something I am doing wrong. Oh, does not matter which direction ship is coming. Had it show one time, torpedo coming out at almost a 70 degree gyro from sub to right and hitting ship in the rear at about a 30 degree angle. Any ideas?

      No, this is vanilla 1.5. I don't quite understand what gyro is, as I don't recall ever hearing of it in the game. You have to ensure you're getting the enemy ship speed right, as well as comparing the speed of your torpedo vs the speed of their ship properly. If you could show me a video, I might be able to figure out what's up.

      You have to make sure your periscope bearing is on the correct bearing when you send the AoB info to the TDC. In your example make sure the periscope bearing is 345 and the AoB 75 THEN hit the button to send the info to the TDC.

    Have you ever used the 4 bearing method in silent hunter 4?

    lol thx a lot for a speedy answer! NOW it makes sense to me and i think i can adopt this in metric pretty easy...i cant wait to get home and start testing this ffs im so excited the hunt is calling :D
    so what about more videos if ur still hunting...maybe a video of convoy attack with dick's ;)

    I realize this is 3+ years old, but i can't seem to find the mod to get distance in meters or yards. All i get is 0.1, 0.2 etc. with metric or imperial. I have watched many videos here on YT, and they all seem have this in the more precise yards/meters. Can anybody help?

      @HalfjackHJ  9 лет назад

      Garry X I will always try to answer questions I get. In regards to this one, could you be a bit more clear for me? I am not using any mods in this video, whatsoever. What is the unit of measurement the game is giving you? Are you getting all of your readouts like "0.1 nautical miles"?

    • @LopsidedEars
      @LopsidedEars 9 лет назад

      Wow. Thanks for quick response HJ.
      Yes, that is exactly what i get. It starts at 0.0, then 0.1 etc., in nautical miles or kilometers (nm or km is what shows). I've watched your vid 10 times and want to use this method, but can't until i get this changed/remedied. ¦-(

      Garry X No problem. Insomnia is a wonderful thing sometimes. Anyhow, I'll see what I can't find out about this, but does it matter how close to the line you zoom in on your map? For example, if you zoom in aaaaall the way, does it still keep to those units of measurement?

    • @HalfjackHJ
      @HalfjackHJ  9 лет назад

      Garry X I think I might know what it is. You -might- be running your game in version 1.3. If at all possible, I recommend you update your game. Version 1.4 has measurements going into increments of 50 yards or meters.

    • @LopsidedEars
      @LopsidedEars 9 лет назад

      Yes, i just tried it, and it was zoomed all the way in.

    i mean its obviously same thing but what i dont get is those numbers u pick(500y and 3100y) why that numbers?500y might be for the speed of the target but 3100 i dont get.plz answer if u got the time and thx again..
    ps: i think im speaking for all sh4 lovers when i say MORE VIDEOS!!!!! xD

    You should of let me do a commentary with you. All the footage would be either unusable or just laughing. Probably both.
