video idea: top 5/10 games that did "bad tropes" well (amnesiac plots, escort missions, time travel) edit: "usually poorly-handled tropes" might be a better fit for what i was going for. (Thanks to McBehrer for pointing that out!)
That'd be cool. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not all that familiar with good female antagonists (that being antagonists that are good *because* they're female, not merely a good antagonist that is female)
@@oscarmccormack1611 Actually there's not many female villains in general and those that are usually stereotypes. That said when they shine, they shine a lot. That's why I love my choices.
Sound idea! If he is doing that, im calling that The Boss from MGS 3 is taking a slot. I wouldn't call her a villain, but an antagonist she definitely is
Pokémon is by far the one that hurts the most, as it is such an important game for many people, who grew up with it and enjoy it ever since, like me. I loved Sun and Moon, but the Ultra games felt a bit unnecessary, LGPE was on the more mediocre side and SwSh was very unpolished. I feel like they should've taken a break of 1 year between LGPE and SwSh, as then the game would probably be better, but it would presumably leave a bigger impact on the franchise going further.
They had like three other games in development during the production of SwSh: the Ultra games, then Let's Go, and then Little Town Hero (which released the same year as SwSh). The release schedule business realllllly feels like a corporate desicion by Pokémon Company and I think it's impacting the development and the quality of the games because if it. Game Freak's not perfect, but we know we've seen amazing stuff be made by them before. This feels like a "money first, quality be damned" situation TPC has been imposing.
Considering that SwSh is releasing the pokemon that they cut in the DLC, and that the whole DexIt was created to improve "performance" (despite pop-in during wild area), I think Pokemon Company/Game Freak got drunk on the power of Pokemon Go and now feel that they can get away with anything. The remakes of Gen 4 and the 9th Gen are inevitable, but I hope that Pokemon Company/Game Freak step back and realize what they have done. At least they probably can't screw up New Pokemon Snap.
@@Firetrigger2110 Gamefreeak is alkso throoughly incompetent. THe only reason gen2 was as good as it was is because of borrowed compression code. and it still ahd soem broken bugs.
@@Porkey_Minch There was a massive scandal recently where it was revealed many top smash players are likely sexual predators. It's fried how many people were exposed.
Well since you brought up Pokemon Sw & Sh, here's a countdown suggestion: Top 5 Critically Divided Games. Cases where the critical reception of games is split between fans and professional critics, either positive or negative.
The Last of Us 2 would certainly have a high spot then, if not #1. I’ve legitimately never seen a bigger divide between fans and critics than with that game.
Red Dead Redemption. People thought the original Red Dead Revolver was ok but it always felt like a little Rockstar side project. Then the sequel dropped and blew everyone's minds.
One of the major problems I see with the fallout series is the fact that their engine is built on a very old engine frame (Quake engine frame I believe) and it's starting to really show it's age with 76. Bethesda got away with it for so long since modders usually fixed the issues for them but with 76 being always online, all it's done is expose the engine's flaws for all to see. What Bethesda needs to do is to make some serious thought of creating a new engine that isn't built on sticks so they can create a Fallout game that doesn't have to rely on the modding community just to make the bloody game work properly.
RabbidLuigi sort of went over this in his "glitchiest games" video from a couple months back. And I seriously doubt Bethesda will EVER get their act together over Fallout at this point. Considering Obsidian's "Outer Worlds" release from late last year is a fairly good game in the same genre, it might be better to let Fallout wither so that devs that have more respect for the franchise will eventually pick it up and be able to start fresh.
Pokémon really needs one. Or longer time spans between generations like how it used to be. Now gens only last 3 years while they used to last 4-5. They used to have a lot more quality in the games and I miss the post games
The older gens lasted more than 3 years because those games did not have worldwide releases like XY onward did. Otherwise, even gen 4 would have also lasted 3 years from 2006 to 2009 compared to 2006- 2010 because of localization delays. But yeah, I would love for gamefreak to just make a single gen and support that for the entire system through dlc and then maybe a remake of an old gen if needed. Like have the switch just support SWSH and a gen 4 remake and that's it. If they wanted to, add another nice 2 part dlc for SWSH before the gen 4 remakes and the enxt Nintendo system.
Your effort to make the "like, subscribe, hit bell" speals as smooth as possible into your scripts continues to impress me. I never know where you throw it in and i wish others would take this approach when doing that
I also liked Sword/Shield, but it’s obvious where they rushed the game and cut corners, and man, can Pokémon certainly use a break in terms of game outputs. Like, we *really* don’t need annual Pokémon games, which’s why I’m somewhat optimistic for the DLC approach since it means they can spend more time on one game rather than immediately jumping onto another. I may be clamoring for Sinnoh remakes, but dammit, take all the time you need to make them as great as they deserve to be, GF! At the very least, we haven’t gotten a new Sonic game in 3 years at this point, so hopefully that and Webber’s resent statement have Sega actually take their time on these games as well. As long as they don’t spend 2 years developing a new engine. So tl;dr, quality>>>>>quantity.
BJGvideos Yeah, for some reason Nintendo Switch games other than Splatoon and Mario Kart have had notoriously bad online. Which’s even worse considering how good the PSS was back in X/Y, and that was *six* years ago.
@@amirgarcia547 That's because they're the only games with dedicated servers, all the others, despite paying a fee for the access, are purely peer to peer, using only the players' own internet capacity to connect. Once the game is already out under that system, there's pretty much no fixing that can be done, because the game and console itself has very little impact in general to how stable the internet connection can be.
The whole issue with it being rushed is literally the fact that they spent to much time on the wild area and Gamefreak decided to just not push back the game
I have a lot of (perhaps misplaced) hope with the DLC approach. The DLC was directed by someone relatively new to the company, so not only does the DLC give the time main team more time to develop the next gen, it also allows them to see what did and didn’t work in the DLC. The Switch games (LGPE included) have felt experimental, so I feel like Game Freak is going through a transitional phase, so hopefully we’ll get out of this rough patch soon and hopefully they’ll have come out of it better
The SS DLC is a step in the right direction, to tide people over until the next mainline Pokémon release is finished, but it remains to be seen whether that'll pay off in the long run for Game Freak *and* the playerbase.
Sir Galahad I mean considering how rushed Sword/Shield is, it’s a lot more likely that they worked on the DLC after the base game was finished rather than being “removed to be sold separately for more profits.” And as cliché as it sounds as this point, I’d rather take DLC than a full-priced 3rd version any day of the week. If they truly wanted to make more profits, they’d just do that instead of bothering with DLC in the first place. Of course, I do have qualms with the additional Pokémon being locked behind DLC, but at the very least you can still get them via transfer or trade.
@Sir Galahad Another thing to consider tho is that the DLC did realise the idea of the wild area, which felt unremarkable in the main game. The DLC's wild area feels like "a step on the right direction" to that type of Pokémon experience.
I think Pokémon DLC is a great replacement for the traditional 3rd installment. It offers longevity to the original two releases rather than encouraging people to put them down and play a "better" version a year later. So far, the problem lies in how much value we're really getting out of the base game even before DLC releases. Also, the recent monetization of transferring old party members feels extra scummy.
MiyaoMeow MiyaoMeow they just offered a different opinion. One that, given Game Freak’s been a bit less than truthful when it comes to the release and development of S/S, wouldn’t be that big of a stretch. While the DLC for this game may be a tentative step in the right direction, I think Pokémon needs a few years off and some fresh blood to breath some life into it. They need new people with new ideas, not the current people who say, “kids don’t have the attention span for a battle frontier/lengthy post game, so let’s just give them a mobile game or a quick epilogue instead.” And that’s not me talking out of my aft end, that’s direct from the heads themselves. Game Freak needs a revival. Soon.
When you mean only recently with Pokemon you mean the last 7 years and last 3 generations right? I think back in 2013 XY was the changing point. Still though I agree Pokemon definitely deserves number 1 on this list.
XY was also considered to have rushed development by a good portion of the fanbase and are considered to be the worst entries outside of LGPE and SwSh.
@@davidgimelfarb9226 I agree with all your points besides mega evolution. It was a gimmick. It may be the best gimmick out of all of the modern gimmicks but still was a gimmick. However if they continued to rework mega evolution throughout the years and made it less mysterious and more of a founding solid lore wise I might consider it a feature that evolved from being initially a gimmick but sadly they just threw out mega evolution before it could develop into something actually cool. It had potential but still felt very superficial.
Dr. Fish PhD I would agree with a twist villain in XY but I’m honestly getting sick of twist villains in Pokémon. Sun and Moon’s was alright but Chairman Rose was bad.
@@Bofrab lol I never even considered rose, lysandre, or lusamine twist villains they were all so obvious. I literally thought Leon would be the twist villain in sword and shield because of how obvious rose was and thought he was a red herring.
I remember when Sonic was a yearly franchise, when we got Shadow, 06, Secret Rings, Unleashed, Black Knight, Colors, and Generations all within a year of each other. Some of them were great, some were awful, and none of them have a real consensus as to which is which (besides 06 and Generations, which are near-universally considered awful and fantastic, respectively). Since then, 3D Sonic games have been released in larger gaps (Lost World was released two years after Generations, Forces came out four years after that, and we haven’t had a new game since), with similarly mixed results, so I don’t know what the problem is. Btw this is just the games developed by Sonic Team, as Dimps, Sumo Digital, and Christian Whitehead’s team pick up the slack with other, better-received games.
Tbf Sonic Team spent 3 years making the engine and only spent 1 year actually making Forces (I’m also curious where their veteran level designers were)
@@aionicthunder There veteran level designers left Sonic Team and work at Nintendo. They worked on Super Mario Odyssey, Breath Of The Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and the battle mode of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Video idea: Mods that were somewhat integrated into the series or game itself. Something that usually happens with indie games, but usually the mods are so high quality that you simply can't ignore them. Is this just a way for you to talk about the Binding of Isaac: Antibirth..? Probably.
I will disagree that just buying FIFA and not any Micro transactions is harmless, since that is still 60 American ($) in EA’s hands that tells them, yeah the quality was good enough
It's so weird to hear "Sonic needs to take a break to figure out what it is", because it's technically already doing that. Mania and Forces were almost 3 years ago. Fifa, Call of Duty, and Pokémon taking a 1 year break would be notable. How long of a break do you have to take for it to count?
team sonic racing just released last year. plus sonic games only come out every 2 or so years anyway, so 3 years isnt really a break. a one year break is notable for cod fifa and pokemon because they release at least 1 game a year and sometimes more.
@@drag00n365 1. Team Sonic Racing was not developed by the same team that made Forces, so that should not count towards that time. 2. If a mainline Sonic game comes out next year, as the video implies, it would be 3.5 to 4 years between mainline games. How long would a break have to be to count? 5 years? 6 years?
@@greatsageclok-roo9013 Okay, so you're saying that a decade is a good enough break for Sonic and no less? My point isn't to arbitrarily compare wait times. My point is asking, for a series that no longer has yearly instalments, and who's last major instalment was almost 3 years ago, how long a does break has to be for it to count.
I think it's more a matter of Sonic needing to take the right kind of break. Namely, not placing the start of development and release dates so infuriatingly close together all the time, and/or being willing to responsibly delay release if more development is needed.
"ATleast I'm not a smash bros predator." Well geez, when you set the bar THAT LOW for yourself I guess you can get away with doing just about anything and not feel bad. But don't worry, Fifa and games of that ilk are predatory too, just a different kind.
One thing I like about Rabbid is how he's not going to be joining the mob when it comes to controversy and negativity because as he said what they become is no longer healthy. Even that's something I believe needs to have a break considering it's become a little too overbearing, but as long as we have people milking and squeezing those controversies dry for clicks and views it's not happening at all, almost like the developers they accuse. It's a cycle that needs to break. With that said, how about Top Five Good Looking Bad Games, since we know looking good is not enough o make it a good game.
I won't say that it doesn't need some tweaking (make the Big Band music only come out during Elite Mobs/mid bosses instead of every fight, increase the starting strength stat a couple of notches, and murder the cameraman, mostly), but I found the Werehog sections of Sonic Unleashed to actually be pretty fun, in a Ristar meets Mario 64 meets My First God of War kinda way.
According to Aaron Webber (The man who was behind the Sonic Social Media until recently), SEGA recently decided they are gonna start taking more time to develop Sonic games for improved quality so the Sonic section is already partly outdated.
It's been about three years since Sonic Forces (crazy as it feels); other than Team Sonic Racing, being forced to go it alone for the 2020 Olympics, and Sonic Dash still getting updates, they haven't actually really been doing much with the Blue Blur lately, huh?
The comics have been the only things carrying the franchise, but let's be real, nobody is buying those. With Sonic seemingly on hiatus and the Happy Tree Friends writers being gone, I hope Sonic Team shocks me. I'm keeping my expectations low though.
Not sure Fallout needs a break from development, it just needs people that actually understand the thematic appeals of a game like Fallout. The combat and enemies angle is generally always really good and has the right feeling to it. The rebuilding/reclaiming and interacting and understanding with various communities and characters, is generally pretty good but nowhere near perfect and none of the game have combined what the others managed to do correctly all together. For instance, the Scorchbeasts and the Scorched are a really interesting part of Fallout 76 as it gives a big threat and some clear goals for reclaiming the wasteland, however, because it's a multiplayer game actually reclaiming the wasteland and stopping the spread of the Scorched or breeding of new Scorchbeasts is impossible. Additionally uniting or conquering various factions needs to play a bigger part in the progression of various Fallout games and actually lead to more interesting things like creation of new trade routes, additional conflict between factions not in that alliance etc. Essentially, the threats need to be real, the goals need to be real and the world and characters need to be real and alive.
My problem with Sonic is that both the writers AND the company are destroying what's left of the lore now. At this point, Tangle and Whisper will be the last characters in the franchise that I give a crap about.
I felt so jaded when I played Pokémon Sword and realized that I wasn't having fun anymore. It was like hitting the breaks in a fast moving car. I've been on board with the series since I started playing it. I'm one of the people who defended Unova designs and didn't mind the lower difficulty of Sun/Moon. Hell, I played Ultra and loved it! But the new generation... Killed all of that. It killed the love for a series I've been playing since before I was 10 years old. They surgically removed half of what makes Pokémon fun and locked it behind paid subscription. And that killed my excitement for new Pokémon games. I can't imagine what's going to happen next, but in the meantime I'll probably be in Unova again.
Top 5 underused environments in video games (Platformers 2D or 3D) I’m thinking the savanna’s, the deep abyssal sea, our solar system, various disasters, and most dangerous of all the internet!
I think my issue with Pokemon at this point is the fact that the games pander too much to the competitive side while providing no real difficulty outside of it (the candy system in sw/sh has represented this problem quite well, along with the complaints about it)
I think a great thing for Pokémon to do to keep the franchise fresh would be to do something similar to the GameCube games (Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness). Here they kept the core battling mechanics the same but changed the story and how you catch Pokémon. I think doing something with Shadow Pokémon or something completely different would be the perfect way to fix this stagnation. They could even remake Colosseum with new Pokémon.
Spread out the development time, and let other teams take a crack at the Pokemon series. Genius Sonority already did well with Colosseum and XD, Chunsoft gave us the amazing Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. Hell even Pokemon Ranger and Conquest were pretty cool. Fun fact, apparently Colossum was developed in about a year or so, the same time Game Freak spends on average on current pokemon games and Colossuem had models for every Pokemon at the time (even if some were reused from Stadium, they still had full models and unique battle animations)
My biggest problem with Pokémon these days is that the cutscenes and story focus are getting really out of hand. I couldn't stand Sun/Moon because of the endless parade of long, boring cutscenes, and Sword/Shield was barely any better. No one is playing Pokémon for the story, and no one needs to hear the umpteen billionth generic cutout character drone on and on about how amazing Pokémon are. I'm not against story or cutscenes in games, especially when it comes to RPGs, but Pokémon just isn't good at it, and doesn't need it. Make the next game open world or make it linear, I don't care, just let me get on with it!
I don’t know if you have already done this, but last second surprises? Like how in the original metroid Samus is revealed to be a woman right before the credits roll?
An open world Pokémon game is something I've been thinking about a lot recently, and in terms of how to deal with the normally linear nature of the gyms I think level scaling would be a useful tool. For example, basing the level of the Gym leader's pokemon on how many gyms you've already beaten. As for the wild Pokémon possibly being too strong, just have higher level Pokémon show up in areas that are hard to reach without certain badges (or bring back HMs as less of a necessity and more of an exploration tool)
Pokemon’s my all time favorite franchise but I really hope Gen 9 doesn’t come out until 2023/24 at the earliest. You cannot put such a strict release schedule on a studio and expect the games to reach their full potential, ESPECIALLY when said studio is small with minimal experience developing for home consoles. This is why I’m thrilled TPC releasing more spinoffs to help fill the gap between generations. IMO this would be the perfect way for them to outline the next several years for the franchise 2020: Sword & Shield DLC 2021: Diamond & Pearl remakes 2022: Spinoff year (or maybe they do DLC for the remakes? Wouldn’t be ideal but if it means filling the gap between gens I’m all for it) 2023: Let’s Go Johto 2024: Gen 9
Sonic's issue is consistency. I'm probably in the small miniotry who thought while generations was good, it was stepping backwards as Colours and lost world were going in a reasonable direction (less said about boom the better - however that isn't the devs fault... More like Sega telling them important information what the wii is capable of last minute and trying to convert it was its downfall.) Pokémon is also trying to go an interesting direction and while it has left alot to be desired, it's pretty clear the entire 'Open world' and 'every pokémon must eventually be in the game' is causing a massive problem. Honestly I couldn't care if all pokémon weren't in a game as it would match how animals are distributed around in real life... Maybe some are more prevelent because they're like domestic creatures or feral ones like sun and moon cleverly did. It would give you a reason to buy them as there will be alot more that are game specific and with the switch, it's possible to just patch an update on to make those mons compatible to fight mons from a newer game... I mean don't see why they can't just do that and everytime you fight a trainer with an unusual pokémon you get a dex update without needing to catch it unless you eventually decide to buy the game they're in.
I know you said you don't want to talk about it, but as someone in the even SMALLER minority that enjoyed Sonic Boom... Yeah, SEGA did that game dirty. I can see through the games faults and pick on what were at the very least unique ideas and had the potential to be amazing (and there were portions I did find fun), but you can tell that something went wrong in development that compromised everything. It's made even worse because apparently the engine BigRedButton was using was NOT compatible with the Wii U. You're supposed to tell the developers these sort of things at the START of development, SEGA!
It’s funny how Pokemon Sword and Shield soundtrack starting to show a lot as a soundtrack to various videos about games and it’s design. XD This video is the second one today, where I found one.
Matt McMuscle’s Wha Happun series has done quite a number of Sonic games and wtf happen in development to make them so... “not great”, and it’s heartbreaking how the games were going well until higher ups step in and go “nah, change everything and do all these clearly impossible things in this minuscule time limit”, making disasters like ‘06 and Boom. I mean, Black Knight and Rings were supposed to be ONE game until higher ups started parading like peacocks asking for impossible demands which led to them breaking the games and giving them to different teams in an attempt to salvage things. It’s sad because I feel if the developers were left to do what they were doing from the start, the games might’ve been great or at the very least “somewhat good”. And I’m not a sonic fan! I can’t imagine how battered actual sonic fans feel. Also fuck Ubisoft they worry more about hiding any and all abuse that comes forth from their workers and just hope fans will forget with stunts like UbisoftForward or whatever it’s called.
the worst part about sword/shield is how....meh it was. a lot of the new pokemon were great, music was good, it didnt look TERRIBLE (trees aside), the camping was cute, and the wild area was amazing. its a shame that it was extremely easy, the story was boring, wasnt even 20h to finish the "story" and there was nothing to explore.
I really wish Obsidian got to make another Fallout game, because New Vegas was great. I mean it's still just as glitchy as 3 was, but it has so much depth in the RPG elements and dialogue.
Rabbidluigi: **uses Assassin's Creed as an example as to how taking a year extra can benefit the game** Also Rabbidluigi: **puts in Pokemon, a franchise that the devs took an extra year to prepare new entries for TWICE!!!**
I knew pokemon would be here. The last few games have suffered heavily as far as quality goes. Sun and Moon were a clear sign things were not going to go well, with its complete lack of any endgame and shaky roster. Sword and shield was the obvious followup that couldn't be avoided on that path.
I'm a little surprised you don't like the Sonic Adventure games. Those were my favorites. Honestly I hope Sega brings back character creation in a future game. I've wanted that since I was a kid
I enjoyed Sword and Shield as well, but it was far and away the most egregious release in the entire series. The story, if you could even call it a story, went out of its way to make sure you barely had a hand in it until the very end. Every time something happened, another side character would tell you not to worry about it and focus on your gym challenge. That just tells me they dont know what to do with a story anymore. Outside of the story, the gameplay itself was just dull. Dynamax/gigantimax was cool the first 10 or so times, then it just becomes annoying. The DLC is one of the most blatant cash grabs I've ever seen. They locked away old pokemon and features like having your lead pokemon walk alongside you behind a pay wall. You can beat the first DLC in 3 hours(I did it in under 2). I loved Sun and Moon, they felt fresh, changing the core gameplay experience away from gyms to these beefy and actually difficult boss pokemon that employed actual tactics. It's one of my favorite all time series, but I fear for the direction it is now heading.
@@BJGvideos Are we REALLY trying to apply backwards logic in a game about capturing creatures in balls to fight other creatures in balls, to defend extremely poor business practices? I think the idiot eleven year old is smarter than you.

I genuinely think that if the new stuff from USUM was in the postgame of Sun/Moon instead of them being their own shoehorned enhanced versions, Sun and Moon would be considered one of the best games in the series. I don't have proof, but it seems like the reason this wasn't the case is because they wanted a new generation out in time for Pokemon's 20th anniversary. This both hurt Gen 7 by making it seem kind of rushed and Gen 6 by making it end seemingly abruptly (There's a TON of unused stuff for Gen 6 that probably could've made for a great potential "Z" version). If Pokemon stops trying to make a new mainline game in the series every year, I think the quality of the series could improve MASSIVELY from beingjust good/passable to something that is given as much respect as Mario/Zelda. I hope that moving forward Pokemon has a release schedule more like those series, just one or two a console generation
I know a while ago you covered terrible boss fights for awesome villains, so how about a video where you cover awesome boss fights for terrible villains.
TBH I kind of wish he could have made that video after the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, because the villain in that game may be one of the best Nintendo Villain in recent years, and while you do fight him a few times throughout the games and most of them are pretty good and challenging, except for the final battle with him. Great villain, bad boss.
About Sonic. If they promise a surprise new 3D entry in a month's time, I'm pointing them to your video and asking them to watch it. Agree 100%. But if they promise a surprise Mania 2 in a month's time? Sorry but I won't be part of any reason that gets held back. Yes please and now.
the problem with bethesda is that they stubornly keep useing the creation engine you know that one engine they have been useing since OBLIVION IN 2006 i mean godamnit bethesda just start useing unreal engine 4 already
I saw this title and the first game franchise I though of was Pokemon. In my opinion Pokemon hasn't been great since gen 5 and although I did enjoy playing Sword and Shield for the most part, it did not even come close to keeping my interest for a long time, like some of the other titles have. If Pokemon were to give a little bit more time in between releases, they might be able to rekindle my love for the series.
From someone who hated COD by the time BLOPS 2 came out but really enjoys it now. They aren't bad games they're just easy to get sick of and more hit and miss than they used to be. The trick is to only buy one every fews years when one catches you eye. For example I bought BLOPS 3 a few years ago and MW this year and really enjoy both, skipping the ones that were uninteresting or reviewed poorly
Pokemon should go back to its original 2 year cycle. It consistently worked. None of those games had any complaints that I'd consider genuine (lots of people like to rag on gen 5, but honestly I find that most objective people who aren't salty about how they were a reboot just because reboot=bad genuinely like the games). It's when they accelerated to an annual release schedule (gen 6 forward, assuming you count the SS DLC, else-wise gen 8 actually slowed down again) that problems really started and people really started to complain. Go back to the two year cycle so these games can get the care they deserve.
Sports games are an unusual situation. For one, they're a game that a physical copy of is desired if only because you want the cover. I think for any of the EA sports games which all seem to run off a set kind of engine for each sport, they could stand to do as you suggest. I'm only going to agree on that end because I don't know how say MLB The Show works. They could still make money off someone who really wants the physical cover too in as much as they could sell them by themselves.
How about a top the list of game franchises that should get a Dynasty Warriors styled spinoff/crossover? Like how Persona 5, Fire Emblem and Zelda each got one in the last few years. I would like to see one for Sonic or Pokemon, or even something like Final Fantasy or Xenoblade Chronicles.
All Bethesda has to do is let another studio remake the first two Fallouts for current gens while they take some time and focus on another modern-style Fallout.
I knew Pokemon would be on here. I really liked Sword and Shield, but agree with everything you said - they didn't quite get everything out of the new hardware and the series has struggled with console jumps in the past but it feels now more than ever that cracks are starting to show. With all these spinoffs and DLC coming, I think they could satiate fans long enough to figure out where they want to go from here. I love the series so much, and I want them to reach that full potential with the Switch and not fall into a stale formula that will leave it a walking corpse of what it once was. Sword and Shield were solid and very successful, but imagine the possibilities. Pokemon is definitely entering a new era - time to see what they era will constitute.
I Completely Agree with Pokémon needing a Break, i mean, i REALLY LIKED Let's Go & SwSh! GameFreak needs some time to Rest, or maybe some more R&D Time. But the problem is less to do with GameFreak themselves, and more so ThePokemonCompany. Keep in mind, TPC is the Big Cooperate Company that's in charge of the Budget and Deadline for Any studio handling the Brand, so They get the last say in the matter! Which is why Base SwSh was so Rushed BUT! I feel like the reason GameFreak is doing DLC for SwSh, is basically to do Damage Control. And Hopefully, with shorter development time for DLC, and Next Year, they 'might' have the time they need to reassess!!?! Fingers crossed 🤞😑🤞
i think both fallout and sonic are franchises that are more of in the need of new owners than breaks since by this point bethesda has forgotten what makes a good fallout game and sega has long forgotten what makes a good sonic game. while a break of fallout and sonic are needed i think that both bethesda and sega are so far gone on knowing what is best for their franchises that i have doubts on whether or not we will see good fallout and sonic games with their current companies doing such piss poor jobs on making good games over the last several years
Honestly some of the best games we’ve gotten recently are from franchises who took a break to refresh their ideas, like Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, and Half Life Alyx. (Ok maybe that last one was a bit too long of a break)
Sonic's current state genuinely hurts my heart. I don't understand what the Sonic Team is doing. Colors and Generations were really really good games, so why not just do more of that, add more and better levels, and then include the whole 'design your own character' mechanic or something. Idk, the fact that Forces was a disappointment baffles me because they devs literally had all the right ingredients to make the best Sonic we've ever seen. How could they botch this up? lol
It's been almost three years since the last Sonic game (unless you count TSR, then it's shorter than that), how long is Sonic supposed to take a break for? Sonic fans are experiencing a heavy drought of news and it's bringing some of us down. I suppose they could work on cartoons and movies but those take a while to make, what are we supposed to consume in the meantime? Not to mention, Sonic's 30th anniversary is next year, so unless they do something else to celebrate that milestone, they HAVE to celebrate that with a new game. As far as I am aware, they've recognized every milestone with a game. I doubt they'll take a break. Sonic doesn't NEED a break, what he needs is competent storytelling and gameplay. I don't think a break will fix that. RL, I'm not mad at ya when I say all this, just a little hurt and confused... Edit: I should've finished watching the full entry before commenting, my bad. I got a little defensive, sorry dude 😓
Hearing him imply that Niantic's old excuse that pokemon were restricted 'because of the hardware' was true despite being proved wrong despite their deceit was rather frustrating. I'm not even a pokemon fan anymore. I just remember looking into this when I decided not to get SwSh
I say this as someone who loves Pokemon, who loved Sword and Shield: I fully agree that some longer time in between major releases would lead to better games overall. There's so many side series that Pokemon fans already care about and I'm willing to bet take less effort than designing the next mainline entry, I would be totally okay with those being the only Pokemon game we got for a few years so that Gen 9 could shock the world.
Seriously, I never thought I'd want an anime to have "more" filler so much. Cause that's the issue, all the various multimedia branches have to work on the same timetable to keep the juggernaut franchise going, but it's just not feasible at this point. The collectable card game is a really big part of that, too.
You’re thoughts on pokemon swsh perfectly mirror mine (except I actually really liked it). Yes the game was clearly rushed, yes removing pokemon only to add them as dlc was poor and the excuse of ‘better quality animations’ was clearly code for ‘we had to get this game out in the holidays for the money’, yes the animations clearly weren’t all they were cracked up to be. But good lord do I despise the way a very loud minority of fans have reacted: complaining about the reused assets and then pointing to a mobile game which STOLE ASSETS as an example of what pokemon should be, complaining about the characters while they mash the a button during cutscenes and insulting the characters and taking small things like a mouse that most don’t notice as a big offence (and more recently forgetting that the Isle of Armour is only half of a package). That’s not to say there are no good criticisms of this game or the way game freak handles it, which there most certainly are, but it’s frustrating seeing them being drowned out by attention seekers who repeat the same points over and over and over again.

You’ve already done best female protagonists, so how about best female antagonists?
Oh that'd be nice. Mir or Infel from Ar Tonelico, the bad guy of Death Mark or even Edelgard
I wouldn't call her a villain, but an antagonist she definitely is
Agent Black from Iconoclasts would have to be the top spot. Fantastic villain. One of the best antagonists of all time imo.

“At least I’m not a smash bro’s predator” are words that make me feel good about my bullshit as well
Doom 3 and Doom (2016) had a 12 year hiatus between the two games, and that worked out better than anybody could've possibly imagined.
Also a four year break between Doom and Doom Eternal
The hell are you on about, gens 1 and 2 were just as short as 5, 6 and 7. The only especially long ones are 3 and 4

That was my expectation coming in too

@Sir Galahad sure, keep talking out your ass because of a petty grudge lmao

There seems to be a pretty common consensus that Colours was pretty good too, like up there with Generations

One thing I like about Rabbid is how he's not going to be joining the mob when it comes to controversy and negativity because as he said what they become is no longer healthy.

I literally just started my second playthrough of origins last night. Funny timing.
IMO this would be the perfect way for them to outline the next several years for the franchise
2020: Sword & Shield DLC
2021: Diamond & Pearl remakes
2022: Spinoff year (or maybe they do DLC for the remakes? Wouldn’t be ideal but if it means filling the gap between gens I’m all for it)
2023: Let’s Go Johto
2024: Gen 9
Sonic's issue is consistency. I'm probably in the small miniotry who thought while generations was good, it was stepping backwards as Colours and lost world were going in a reasonable direction (less said about boom the better - however that isn't the devs fault... More like Sega telling them important information what the wii is capable of last minute and trying to convert it was its downfall.)
Pokémon is also trying to go an interesting direction and while it has left alot to be desired, it's pretty clear the entire 'Open world' and 'every pokémon must eventually be in the game' is causing a massive problem.

Edit: okay, I’m glad that we have similar thoughts here 😅
Matt McMuscle’s Wha Happun series has done quite a number of Sonic games and wtf happen in development to make them so...

I'm a little surprised you don't like the Sonic Adventure games. Those were my favorites. Honestly I hope Sega brings back character creation in a future game. I've wanted that since I was a kid
A solid list with solid selections (pokemon came to mind). Not sure if this was done recently, but top 5 best/worst launch title games?
@@BJGvideos This might be *the* most cringe inducing response to poor writing and milking a franchise. Shame on you.
@@BJGvideos Not to mention youre also called upon at the end of the main story to literally go down to where an electric reactor just exploded and fight the head of a corporation. Makes *complete* sense. Lmao.
Top 5 best Art Styles in Video Games
Let’s hope that 3:02 isn’t memed for being “ironic” in the distant future...
@@christopherwallace7903 I haven't played Xenoblade 2 yet, but I can definitely see that being something that could happen in this series.
About Sonic. If they promise a surprise new 3D entry in a month's time, I'm pointing them to your video and asking them to watch it. Agree 100%. But if they promise a surprise Mania 2 in a month's time? Sorry but I won't be part of any reason that gets held back. Yes please and now.
the problem with bethesda is that they stubornly keep useing the creation engine
you know that one engine they have been useing since OBLIVION IN 2006
i mean godamnit bethesda just start useing unreal engine 4 already
They had no Pokemon game in 2015, and even so, Pokemon was almost annual before the 3ds line happened.
Should've put the music from the Pokémon segment into the Fallout segment, cause Bethesda is Bethetic 😂
The DLC for Pokemon was pretty good, and the future stuff looks really awesome.
You literally predicted legends arceus damn
Sports games are an unusual situation. For one, they're a game that a physical copy of is desired if only because you want the cover. I think for any of the EA sports games which all seem to run off a set kind of engine for each sport, they could stand to do as you suggest. I'm only going to agree on that end because I don't know how say MLB The Show works. They could still make money off someone who really wants the physical cover too in as much as they could sell them by themselves.
To be fair, dude. Sonic has been on a break since Team Sonic Racing (or forces if you prefer mainline)
Top 5/10 Cats in Video Games
Yeah I hope the next Pokémon games aren’t until 2022 or whatever and aren’t constrained to a late fall/early winter release
@Tom The Fish Would you say the same thing for someone who really liked X and Y, Sun and Moon, or Let's Go?
Tom The Fish Oh wow, it’s almost like someone can still like something while simultaneously acknowledging its flaws! What a novel concept!
I actually thought Pokemon when I just read the title of the video. It's basically the same game since the 90s, just with updated graphics each time.
Which is why Base SwSh was so Rushed
BUT! I feel like the reason GameFreak is doing DLC for SwSh, is basically to do Damage Control. And Hopefully, with shorter development time for DLC, and Next Year, they 'might' have the time they need to reassess!!?!
Fingers crossed 🤞😑🤞
i think both fallout and sonic are franchises that are more of in the need of new owners than breaks since by this point bethesda has forgotten what makes a good fallout game and sega has long forgotten what makes a good sonic game. while a break of fallout and sonic are needed i think that both bethesda and sega are so far gone on knowing what is best for their franchises that i have doubts on whether or not we will see good fallout and sonic games with their current companies doing such piss poor jobs on making good games over the last several years
Best thing about Fallout has been Vault boy Mii costume in Smash bros
Honestly some of the best games we’ve gotten recently are from franchises who took a break to refresh their ideas, like Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, and Half Life Alyx. (Ok maybe that last one was a bit too long of a break)
I'm so glad that Pokemon is #1. It's felt so rushed and I can't
I have bought an entry in most of these games. It was enough to kill further interest and in most cases go for a return/trade in.
How could they botch this up? lol
Simple. It wasn't by the people that made Sonic Generations and Colors.
Top 5/10 Cult Classics. Do it!
After the dissapointing Resident Evil 3 Remake.

The collectable card game is a really big part of that, too.
literally got an ad during number 2, about number 2.
Tier list of games where you can play as Luigi.
1:42 Pardon, which Final Fantasy character is that?
