Lamp From Steel Nuts! Beginner Welding Project
HTML-код

- What can I say? This is a very simple project perfect for anyone who wants to start with welding. It's made from steel nuts and 5mm thick steel rod. I use some white vinegar to remove the coating from them and to neutralize them afterward I used some baking soda. I didn't use any finish or protective coat afterward.
Thank you very much for watching!

Ollari's- Saw you talking with Diresta at Maker Fair! Glad you had a good time. It was also nice to hear you speak. Thanks for another spectacular video!
It's a remarkable piece Seb
@lyonnightroad Baking soda can be found at your local supermarket. Mix the powder with water.
I love this! Just added it to a list of future projects !
Hi
Brilliant piece of work. Can I ask what size nuts you used?
That's terrific!!! I want one. A real piece of art. Well done man :)
Thank you my friend!
Gotta admire your patience with all that grinding! Looks awesome, I love the bowl shape. And I'll definitely use that de-galvanizing trick sometime soon
Thanks Phil! Glad you found something useful in my video!
Nicely done!
Were those nuts zinc coated? I didnt know vinegar could remove that too, if yes how long did you leave them in it?
Ive always used hydrochloric acid to remove zinc coatings, which ofc is a lot more dangerous than vinegar.
Yes they were. I used 10% strong household vinegar. It took about 4 hours. At least that's when I got back to them.
Thank you! Thats good to know, ill try it next time instead of acid. 4 hours is a lot longer than with the acid, but when i need to dezinc something i know that hours/days in advance :D
Happy to help!
awesome build Sebastian! Such a cool concept and use of a different material. Great job!
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Really cool Seb. I love the "spine" of the lamp. Cool project and video!!
Thank you my friend! Yes, the spine is the favorite part for me too!
This is a Amazing Project Looks So Great....Damm You are Good...Great Channel...A+A+A+A+
Very good job, I really like this industrial stuffs. I discover a very interesting process in your video : coating removal. But how many time did you let the nuts in the white vinegar and in the backing soda ? I guess it depends on the thickness of the coating, but what is average times for standard bolts/nuts/washers we found in shops, 1 hour ? 1 day ? 1 week ? Thank you very much.
Thanks! I left it in the vinegar overnight. The backing soda was only for a couple of minutes to neutralize the vinegar.
Thanks for your fast reply, I will try it 😃
I wish you a good continuation in your projets...
Dude that's nuts! I always see your ideas and think, why didn't I think of that? Great job! I really enjoyed hanging out in the UK at Makers Central. Hope to see you there again next year!!
Yes, it was an amazing time! Thank you very much Chad!
Man I love the way the nuts on the support bar look like vertebrate on a spine!! Sweet job 👍👍
Thanks a lot Nick!
the vinegar... is it to remove the galvanizing layer?
Yes
You earned yourself a new subscriber. Amazing work!! Mad respect!
Thank you very much! Welcome!
Beautiful piece, I like it's industrial look!

This is nuts!
Haha! Ye it is!
That must really hurt your arms without the right clothing, and put holes in your shirt. Your funeral
Why would it hurt? I usually don't work in my best clothes, so who cares?
I am not going to argue just look after yourself, you may feel it a bit now, but long term..
I've had similar ideas. Maybe all-thread or rebar for the post. Props for the the patience pounding that base out, neat.
*Double Genius!
*
And it's gonna rust and look freaking even more AMAZING!!
Can you do an Updated video when it gets that gorgeous patina? Please. Inspired me to make my own. planning on getting a welder Weeeee!
Thanks! I’ll post a picture on my instagram when the surface gets rusty.
@@Ollaris Thank you! I'll make an Instagram just so I can see it!! :)
Looks cool. You can make custom pencil holders that screw in
Beautiful ,man !
Congratulations !!!

When somebody complements you on your work you could at least say a simple thank you!
Hi, can you tell which type of welding machine is that ?
Awesome idea bro!
Thanks Hassan!
Love this. How long did you soak the nuts in the vinegar please? (sorry if already asked and answered).
Thank you, it was probably 4h. But it depends on the % of the vinegar and the thickness of the coating.
Thanks dude!
Incrivel!!!seu trabalho sera reconhecido pelo mundo!!🌍
Muito obrigado Nelma!
UNA CONSULTA : ¿EL USO DEL VINAGRE SOBRE LAS TUERCAS TIENE ALGUNA RELACION CON LOGRAR UNA MEJOR UNIÓN TRAS EL PROCESO DE SOLDADURA?
now I understand why you were cleaning your nuts ;-) Really nice simple lamp, cheers
Haha! Exactly! Thank you! :)
Im glad when you said you were posting your nuts on a video it was this. Great job, I love the look of it

A phenomenal project & build my friend. Very unique and appealing design. You are amazing!
Thank you very much Rag! Right back at you!
How long do you soak the nuts for and how many nuts do you need what size did you use here also
Original y bien elaborada. Buen trabajo
This is freakin outstanding dude. Really like it
Thanks a lot Paul!
??? Would soldered lead be strong enough for those who don’t want to attempt arch welding?
I never tried it but it could work if the solder holds on the nuts.
Maybe even epoxy would work for those not willing to weld , a good strong epoxy would do the job I think
how many nuts did it take and what is the total weight:)
I didn’t count to be honest. It got to be 2kg.
this was a great project. i like industrial and rustic designs.
Thanks man!
Joder ahora entiendo por qué no hay tuercas en la ferreteria
Тоже занимаюсь сувенирами . Отлично получились ! Есть чему мне по учиться ! Так держать !

It was just some 18ga scrap aluminum.
Original lamp!
Backing soda lmfao
Cool project, now convert it to LED

How much backing soda did you used in the water
I just added it until the water couldn’t dissolve any more.
That's pretty cool.

Good lamp ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Thank you!
Good job, fellow fool!
Thank you! ;)
really liked the Idea. The holes in the nuts cast a nice light with shades, but would develope the idea further. Nice work though!
Thanks Filip! In which direction?
Personally i don't like to see the light source in a lamp, in other words, the bulb itself. But as I said the shades through the nuts was really nice due to the threads. Apart from that I really enjoyed the round shape you made. The "arm" and the foot I'm afraid didn't do that much for me though. If I had a weld at hand myself I would work more with both things but maybe separately. Develop the light idea somehow, not to sure there yet. But the round shape I would continue with. Either a large, some what flatter round shape for a fruit bowl or maybe one that is more to the sphere shape with a bit of a roof so to say. Either fairly open like a "C" or more closed with an opening. Also try skipping some nuts to make openings with that nice six-sided shape. maybe not one here and there, maybe more 4-6 here and there, and also the edge doesn't have to be straight
Another thing you can experiment with is to use the threads for what they were meant for.If you want to make that kind of lamp you did then maybe use a threaded rod and that way you can change where the rod goes in and in which nut it sits...
Yeah. Actually it started as a fruit bowl. But I didn't liked it. So it became a lampshade.
I see, well still worth exploring more ideas with the nuts though and show us what it ended up being. :)
Love it so much
