Dusted off this shelved idea with a newer script, and I'm very glad I did! We will be taking a closer look at the hubris and greed of Faraday, learning a bit more about Fixers in the process. He may have very little screentime, but he's so awesome. Giancarlo Esposito just has that kind of a voice that grips you.
I also love how he was just like any other person who wanted to rise above the system of Night City. In that way, he and David are much the same. Whatever the motivation's root, it always ends the same way. If you don't play by the rules of this entity of a city, you always get snuffed out. I do love how alive Night City feels because of its harsh nature. It's a character all its own.

Smasher’s “Who the fuck are you?” line is almost poetic in how brutally and efficiently he dismantles Faraday’s delusions of power and self-importance.
Not to mention funny as hell 😂 I can only dream of writing a scene that good.

I never understood this take, since I doubt Smasher knows the VAST majority of Corpo higher ups, so the idea he would know the name of a guy who JUST got there would be a little bit silly.
Adam Smasher would've said "Who the fuck are you?" to just about anyone unless they are at the TOP.
@@GenericProtagonist7 Which is exactly the point. Faraday was so full of pride about his self-importance he genuinely believed he could order Smasher around. He was a medium sized fish in a small pond, thought he was a big fish and tried ordering a shark around.
@@Dragon_Lair I get that, it's more that even if Faraday were as important as he thought he was, like if he was in the position of that Arasaka employee who actually called Smasher in in the first place, Smasher still would've said "Who the fuck are you?" because Smasher is just a dick in general for no reason most of the time.
Like, even if Smasher knew who Faraday was, he'd still say it just to fuck with Faraday.

Faraday, for all he thought of himself, was just another piece of meat for Night City to chew up and spit out
And now I am totally expecting Faraday 's eye to appear in Patch 2.14 or whatever we're up to now.
Would have been cool to have been given many more different options in the character customizer for like, different numbers of eyes, a mouth mask like Kiwi etc
My head canon is that Faraday's absence in the game is an Easter egg. He left nothing of value in the world, despite all his efforts. Forgotten by Arasaka, Militech, the remaining mercs he looked down on, likely even the clean up crew scraping his gory mess off of the payment. A fitting end.

The way I see it, Fixers and Mercs are more or less the same. They are just underlings for corpos. Sure, you'll get fixers like El Capitan who goes against the Corpos, and Dakota, who only takes jobs from Nomads, but at the end of the day, a Fixer is just another tool for a corpo. They get a job, put mercs to work on it, get paid on a job well done, and give out scraps of eddies to the mercs. That's the only real difference between the two.
What Faraday failed to conceive was that he(like so many in Night City) isn't special.

Even El Capitan still does gigs for corpos, such as helping one get a promotion over another in the gig "Race to the Top". While he does also have you steal from corps for the people, even he cant evade the role of a fixer in nc's power structure, just probably wont help them against the lower classes and still trys to do what good he can.
The old saying goes "You gotta know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em, know when to walk away, and know when to run"
It's more of a song but it's also true
Know when to play, know when to surrender, know when to stop playing all together, and know when it's time to get out.
He couldn't see when it was time to admit defeat or when to stop playing.
That is how it is for so many in Night City. Sad thing is too many people believe dying a legend is better than living with family.

Woot another video! Whats interesting about Faraday’s name is it is probably a reference to a Faraday Cage. A containment where signals are unable to get out. Supposedly he was trying to imply all the information he handled was not going to be leaked at all. Making his actions with David ironic.

The world and history of the Cyberpunk universe is a major part of what drew me in like so many others.

Faraday was my favorite character in Edgerunners. He set up a scam of the decade, did everything right and in the end Adam Smasher killed him just before. Life is unfair in Night City.
I found your channel about two days ago, and I have watched every Edgerunner video; your series is excellent and has made me think about a lot of things. I am currently running a very longstanding Cyberpunk campaign (we're almost up to 40 sessions!) and in it, a very spontaneous and genuine relationship blossomed between one of my critical NPCs Eli and one of the players, the Rockergirl Zhora the Siren. It has been very adorable and has really shown what having a trusted loved one can do for your mental health and life overall... but now with all your videos I can't help but spiral about how horrible it would be for either of them if the other died. The hard realization hit me that when someone helps you that much, losing them can damage you so deeply you become a darker and more damaged person than ever before. Keep up the good work!!!

I watched Edgerunners only once so far. Rewatching it with your analysis of characters, many of which I didn't think too much about, would definitely be an experience with the new perspective.
Fixers are the fall guys for serious players.
Mercs are errand boys to clean up inconvenient chores.
Legends such as Smasher are entry level hurdles to scout potential recruits for serious military agencies.
Night city is not a nightmare, it is comparable to the starting town in a MMORPG to level up players for a global stage.
And that makes the world outside the Night City even scarier.

I’ve never seen another RUclipsr have such a deep and comprehensive analysis of the characters from both the anime and the game. Cyberpunk 2077 as a whole changed my worldview and each character brings a unique perspective.

Great video! Faraday's Penthouse exists in CP2077 and is pretty sweet. Too bad you can't invite NPCs from Afterlife to come afterparty there.
Edit: Can't remember what quest lead there, but it's in the Luxury Apartments on the SouthEast side of Westbrook; building closest to the Westbrook race.
