    This was a thorough review. I'm not in the market for a new car for a while, but I still watch these videos. When I was looking for my 2015 Si Sedan, I kept being drawn to the Golf GTI. I love the look of that car. Listening to this guy's comparison of his hatchback and other competitor models really reminded me of the bottom line. You will just live better with a Honda no matter how much you like the features from other makers.

    It has less engine breaking than normal cars cuz it has VTC system as it lets air spools the turbo going from intake to exhaust directly

    Fantastic review man! The only thing that really bugs me is that the upcoming top-trim Sport Touring model DOES NOT come with a manual option. BIG MISTAKE Honda! I'm hoping that they'll add a manual option for the 18' or 19' Sport Touring models (which will coincide with my 2016 Civic Sedan lease ending). Just because someone wants a manual doesn't mean they should be denied the upper-tier options. Regardless, this one is a fantastic value if you don't care about bells and whistles. Just my thoughts.

    Apparently FlyinGato doesn't understand how toque curves work. The manual Civic Sport produces 177 lb ft @1800 rpm, whereas the Mazda3 GT produces 185 @ 3250. The Civic's torque curve is much flatter and comes on much earlier than the Mazda's or any naturally aspirated engine's torque, so you should expect the Civic to be quicker than a Mazda3 carrying similar weight. Pretty much any turbo car will be faster than a similarly sized NA car with similar power figures.
    Not to mention, from the dyno ratings I've seen, the 1.5t Civic is also way underrated, peaking at around 180 hp and 190 lb ft to the wheels, meaning not only does it have a better torque and curve than the Mazda, but it also has more peak power, and probably more power at any given RPM

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato 7 лет назад

      Oh trust me, I know how it works, it's just that on paper the Mazda sounds faster, but in reality, they are similar when it comes to straightline speed. The advantage is that the Civic is much easier to tune due to the turbo engine.

    • @zkiller195
      @zkiller195 7 лет назад

      FlyinGato
      How does the Mazda sound faster? The Civic has a slightly better power (and torque) to weight ratio and the huge advantage of having a much broader torque curve, as is typical with any DI turbo. Plus every dyno result I've seen on Honda's 1.5t reveals that it's underrated by a good margin.
      The two cars aren't all that close in straight line performance either. The Civic will hit 60 in the mid-to-high-6 second range and the quarter mile right at 15 seconds. The Mazda3 will trail by a good half second or more in both measures, which is pretty significant.

      zkiller195 im pretty sure he used that statement to speak to the general public... i mean come on... u tell someone car a- has 300hp and car b- has 330hp and then asl them wich is faster what are they gonna say.. car b... if you talk to my mother my aunt my uncle or my brother they will tell you a v6 is faster than a i4 no matter what.. so plz chill on the i know more than you on the internetz...

    • @brandonboggess3112
      @brandonboggess3112 7 лет назад

      I'm pretty sure the average person knows that alot more comes into play than just horsepower when it comes to speed and acceleration. Even if they aren't thinking about every factor that comes into play, at the very least anyone with the least bit of common sense should recognize that weight, torque, and gearing come into play.
      Plus, the guy clearly isn't some clueless person who knows nothing about cars. His channel is filled with videos of cars and motorcycles and he talks like a someone who has a pretty good idea of what they're talking about and who enjoys driving.
      His statement about the Mazda sounding faster simply isn't true for anyone with even a basic understanding of how cars work, even with just a glance of the spec sheets. It just seems out there for someone who otherwise sounds like they know what they're talking about.

    How is the CVT. Can't imagine a cvt with a turbo hitting 0-60 in 6. 9some reviewers describe the honda CVT as an advantage. Because it keeps the RPMs in the peek of the engines pwer. And the MPGs are awsome so maybe the CVT works with the aport trim?

    If the Si sedan is less than $5k more than the Sport hatch, I'll have to wait for that. 180 hp in a 2850 lb car isn't that good. My 300 cc motorcycle has a better power/weight ratio.

    My friend your bias is truly showing. You are actually comparing a Focus ST to a Civic? That conversation is a none starter. An ST is in a total different league. Try it again when the new Civic SI hits the ground.

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato 7 лет назад

      I actually was right there with you, I had my Kona blue 2016 St1 packaged ST ready to go, but wanted to test drive the Civic Hatch in a manual, and once I did, I really was sold by Civic. St weighs about 400 pounds more than the Civic hatch sport, so while it's more powerful, it's not really faster. The new Si should be a lot better than the St, except for the missing hatch of course.

      Depends on what you value honestly. As a totally neutral party who has driven and is considering both cars, there's my opinion on each car:
      Mazda3 strengths:
      • Better handling and steering. Feels better in turns, and especially on center with more immediate response.
      • Better looks. This is the most subjective advantage I will list, and your opinion may vary, but I think the Mazda looks better inside and out
      • Better packaging. While the Civic hatch can only be had in base and Sport trims, the Mazda3 can be had with options, so I can get one with premium sound, navigation, a sunroof, heated leather seats, and tons of other options
      • Better pricing. At least where I'm at in Florida, Honda dealerships don't budge much off MSRP. Mazda3s on the other hand, can be had for $2500 under MSRP. I can get a loaded 6-speed Mazda3 GT hatch for $23,000, only $2k more than a Civic Sport (which is very bare-bones in comparison)
      Civic strengths:
      • Better engine feel. The Civic is noticeably quicker and I love the broad torque curve.
      • Size. The Civic has more passenger and cargo space while remaining slightly lighter.
      • Quieter cabin. While I do think the Complaints on the Mazda3 cabin noise are overblown, the Civic's cabin is quieter (I haven't driven the 2017 Mazda3, which has more sound deadening and is supposedly quieter)
      • More comfortable ride and seats. The Mazda's seats aren't quite as comfortable. On a long drive that can make a big difference.
      • Better fuel economy. The EPA ratings are about 5 mpg better in the Civic Sport than in a Mazda3 2.5 liter. From the real world results I've seen, that should project to the real world.
      Tossup (I give Mazda the edge on both, but could easily see someone going the other way on either):
      • Suspension. The Mazda's is a little sportier but the Honda's is a little smoother. Both are pretty sporty for non-sports compacts and the difference isn't huge, but I prefer the Mazda's suspension.
      • Transmission feel. Both cars have great 6 speeds that engage well and feel great, but there are things I like better about each. Mazda's has tighter throws and a better clutch feel. Honda's shifts are butterier, although for me the shifter throws are a bit long and the clutch contact point is too wide.
      I would honestly be sold on the Honda if they would just offer the hatchback in the US with more equipment. Canada gets a Sport model equipped like our EX and a Sport Touring model, both available with a 6 speed, but in the USA we're stuck with the LX or a Sport model with the same equipment as the LX.

    • @RickDanner
      @RickDanner 7 лет назад +1

      Jedi - I agree on every point you make all well spoken ! I was comparing the civic to the base mazda 3 because I see no value in the GT that is about 3 or 4K more . IT is only slightly quicker that the base with a manual . I drove the manual 2.0 155hp mazda and liked it better than the civic hatch even though the civic turbo felt much faster . I also love the looks of the mazda the civic as far as looks go to me is horrible it reminds me of the station wagon in the vacation movie with checy chase with all the stupid cladding and add ons . Thanks for the research and comment appreciated !

    • @brandonboggess3112
      @brandonboggess3112 7 лет назад

      Again, it all comes down to what you value, but for me the GT is well worth the little extra cash, not only because it's a bit quicker (as far as performance, the extra low end grunt is more important to me than the speed itself), but also because of the equipment you get. Plus in GT Trim, the Mazda3 interior is on par with many entry luxury vehicles, better than the Civic's interior in Touring trim, and much better than you can get in any manual Civic on the US market.
      Honestly I think both are great cars, and will probably be very good cars to own (enjoyable day in and day out, practical, reliable, etc), and don't think you can go wrong either way. Personally, if I were shopping for a lower trim I would probably be leaning towards the Civic, but I would really prefer a car with more options. Especially with the upcoming Si being sedan and coupe only, it seems dumb for Honda to limit US buyers to the base and Sport models (especially when Canada gets an EX based Sport and Touring model with an available 6 speed). I'm hoping they change manual availability next year.

      RadioactiveX you have the section by the seat which has metal and you also have the roof. In a hatch you don't have the metal section by the rear seats. The new hatch is 50% stiffer than the old U.K. Hatch

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato 7 лет назад

      This hatch actually has more body reinforcement because of the way they reinforced the hatch area.

    • @Fadic4
      @Fadic4 7 лет назад

      FlyinGato they can reinforce that area all they want it won't be equal to the steel that's used around the back seats. Unless if they used aluminum which I highly doubt.

    Good review, however, once again, the fake cheesy boy racer fake grills on the rear bumper look like total boy racer illogical crap. Please note, fake facades that have no purpose are total crap and ridiculous. I think Honda is taking the fatuous and ridiculous movie persona look too far. Surprising Honda would stoop so low. Flying Gato, yes the rear grills look like crap. In any event cheers.
