The scorpion concept's layout makes the most sense , twin engines, twin tails, and the high wing for ground visibility. Not to mention that it should be able to get in to a target area a lot faster.
The problem with it is that the reason why the A-10 is getting retired is that it is not survivable enough in a "real" ("near peer") war and too big, awkward and expensive for the kind of asymmetrical counter-insurgency warfare it can still do. Makes sense. Some NATO airforces have a fast jet program that costs billions to run, just to drop a Paveway iv over Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria without any opposition. A 4th or 5th generation aircraft is not used to its full potential. Why spend billions when you can do the exact same mission with these cheap light attack aircraft.
The A-29 Super Tucano has a flight hour cost at around 1000$. The A-10s almost 20.000$. The A-10 while amazing, has a lot of missions that the A-29 is well capable of doing, but cheaper. Also cheaper to repair because it's turbohelix and doesn't require a fancy, clean, airstrip. Here in Brazil we tested a lot of landing and departure on dirt roads that helped on the development, with a longer tail, reinforced landing gear, even the air entry changed a bit, our pilots also had a part, our cockpit has a better fov than the At-6 as an example. No, it is not a superiority jet fighter. It was designed to precise bombing, which we tested a lot, LAS, and light air patrol like to intercept helis and small planes such as those used for drug trafficking.
@@magicaldweebintheinternet9001 Yup. Maybe after like 3 failed programs the USAF will finally buy a light attack aircraft to stop spending millions on A-10s to destroy $100 terrorist tents. A-10s are great, but for most missions they're overkill.
@@anonymousperson2110 I think the US should consider acquiring foreign Planes to beef up the military in a very sufficient way. Like purchasing M-346fa and FA50 to add it up to US arsenals that likely can only spent operational cost not higher than F15 and Raptors

The Philippine Air Force is currently using the Super Tucano. They flew the plane from Brazil to the Philippines. 6 of them. The US Government will always support American Companies but they also ordered the Super Tucano for Special Operations.
It's bizarre how many comments don't understand the role that these planes serve. These people would probably launch a cruise missile to open a stuck pickle jar.
I’ve always thought this. Why don’t Japan just build replicas of one of their single engine WW2 Twin pontoon float planes, like the Aichi E13 ‘Jake’, which was a three crew plane with a long greenhouse canopy, and equip it with sophisticated light weight weapons? The cost of patrolling the China Sea, Ryukyu Islands, Okinawa, North Korean sea areas would be miniature compared to what they use now and with modern communications and radar, they could call upon their F16s etc., in no time.
Philip Browne the f-35 is a multi role fighter. It can do surveillance. Bomb things, engage other aircraft in the sky, but it has a big price tag. The f-16 can do the same or almost the same exact thing for millions cheaper. The only thing the f-35 can do more than the f-16 is land and takeoff vertically and make the pilot wear a cool 400,000 dollar helmet system. These light piston aircraft is a f-16 that cant go sonic. Personally I think it’s a waste of money that we can put to rebuild bases and new guns for are troops and to train them with good equipment.
Cody Box Thats completely false...the F 35 can evade and penetrate deep enemy air defenses while carrying jassms internally it can strike before every being noticed. The f 16 is a dog fighter
The AT-6 still has a couple of remove before flight tags attached when taxiing out, starboard side. (1:56) As does the A-29. The seem to be gone in-flight.
they are weapins lock, i think, they remove it far from the hangar. Or maybe they are just doing some ground tests, so they don't need to remove everything.
so. the USAF is currently using sledgehammers to smash ants with their F16/18 and A10s in the middle east. doing so accrues incredible costs, as those machines are high performance craft way, way overqualified for the majority of their missions. but they need to be done. so they get send out for CAS over and over again, shortening the lifespan of those Jets and wearing them out even faster. this is bad because the A10 isn't in production anymore. the same will happen with the F35 eventually if this projekt doesn't work out. These turboprops will fill a vital role by engaging light ground targets, freeing up the high performance jets for missions that actually require high performance jets, they will also allow pilots to train themselves up on easier and cheaper craft, and will be much more easily and cheaply mass-producible. apparently, one hour of flight of a f16 costs 22'000 dollars. the A-29 barely 2000 at best. and in my opininon, it would not surprise me if these cool running, small Craft (who all have top Gen4 countermeasures too) actually perform better against MANPADS and other AA simply because modern AA is geared towards shooting down jets. basically: don't bring an 18wheeler to help your friend move, get a pickup.

And these are light attack aircraft
@@magicaldweebintheinternet9001 Yup. Maybe after like 3 failed programs the USAF will finally buy a light attack aircraft to stop spending millions on A-10s to destroy $100 terrorist tents. A-10s are great, but for most missions they're overkill.
@@anonymousperson2110 I think the US should consider acquiring foreign Planes to beef up the military in a very sufficient way. Like purchasing M-346fa and FA50 to add it up to US arsenals that likely can only spent operational cost not higher than F15 and Raptors
Does anyone know the date that the USAF will choose one of these three light attack aircraft? I hope the USAF chooses the A-29 Super Tucano, such an awesome airplane! Even my profile picture is of a A-29 Super Tucano ;-)
AT-6 Welcome to Thailand😘
Super tucano best ;)
No video of the OA-8 Air Tractor?
I miss the A 6 it’s such a cool plane
Upgraded p47 redesign the p47 do it can carry shit like those ground missiles
I’m joking it would be so dope if thy did that tho
No. Why did we spend 100s of millions of dollars and years deciding on a new platform, when we already have proven platforms, with new upgrades, that could have done the same job.

Embraer didn't take any chances: they got Gustav Fring to fly their plane.
Super tucano A-29 is evolution the mustang P-51
A29 super tucano com certeza.
The super Tucson looks like a fine aircraft but there is NO excuse to not buy American made beech craft at-6 if it fulfills the roll.
The Philippine Air Force is currently using the Super Tucano. They flew the plane from Brazil to the Philippines. 6 of them. The US Government will always support American Companies but they also ordered the Super Tucano for Special Operations.
What happened to Air Tractor's AT-802L Longsword?
Embrear Super Tucano :)
The Scorpion reminds me of an Alpha Jet, with broader hips...
I am only skeptical about the payload capacity though.
Grew up in SA the tucano is sweet
It's bizarre how many comments don't understand the role that these planes serve. These people would probably launch a cruise missile to open a stuck pickle jar.
Anyone else love "ugly" aircraft?
iilikecereal if you call the A-29 "Ugly" you are wrong :3
Quando se fala em equipamento para guerra o que menos importa é a aparência, Se não o A 10 e o B2 Bomber tava na merda: pensa em avião feio da porra.
They’re manly ugly same like the A10.
Just like the Irish ☘️ air corps PC9
sometimes that all they need, pluse they are fast , turn on a dime ,and the cost!!!!!! i'm sure they have a place in the us.Military!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At 6 have the good design, like an a29,but the at 6 have the mini body and the tucano have medium body👍
(BRA)AT-6 Wolverine x A-29 Super Tucano(BRA)
Aeronaves de origem brasileira criadas de empresas diferentes mais com o mesmo pai. Qual o melhor?
A-29 Super Tucano
Scorpion the best choice
AT-6 seems like a farm airplane!
beautiful!👍👍👍
I’ve always thought this. Why don’t Japan just build replicas of one of their single engine WW2 Twin pontoon float planes, like the Aichi E13 ‘Jake’, which was a three crew plane with a long greenhouse canopy, and equip it with sophisticated light weight weapons? The cost of patrolling the China Sea, Ryukyu Islands, Okinawa, North Korean sea areas would be miniature compared to what they use now and with modern communications and radar, they could call upon their F16s etc., in no time.
Awsome
A29
A-29 is better!
Super tucanooooo 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Better than the f-35
Its job is for close air support and can but back in the fight quicker
Super Tucano pft
Just use a Preadtor or Reaper drone for Light Attack its already been developed.
I don't understand why these years so many light attack aircraft are appearing on the market.
The Scorpion needs afterburners!
Are they reconsidering the A-9 design?
The AT-6 still has a couple of remove before flight tags attached when taxiing out, starboard side. (1:56) As does the A-29. The seem to be gone in-flight.
they are weapins lock, i think, they remove it far from the hangar. Or maybe they are just doing some ground tests, so they don't need to remove everything.
Ist that a GBU-12 dummy on the wings of that Super Tucano?
Lockheed martin AT-6 welcome to Thailand🇹🇭❤️🇺🇸
so. the USAF is currently using sledgehammers to smash ants with their F16/18 and A10s in the middle east. doing so accrues incredible costs, as those machines are high performance craft way, way overqualified for the majority of their missions. but they need to be done. so they get send out for CAS over and over again, shortening the lifespan of those Jets and wearing them out even faster. this is bad because the A10 isn't in production anymore. the same will happen with the F35 eventually if this projekt doesn't work out.
SteveAkaDarktimes ... Or ... Dont bring a ferrari to rally
50年前有一款A-1天兵式攻擊机,活塞引擎,備弹量多,耐打耐操,在越南战區甚建功績。
when I grew up I want to be a air force
Single engine, liquid cooled for ground attack? Wasn't good for the
P-51....remember?!
I do! We lost some very good pilots doing that.
