  • I know, I know, drop off is going to be HUGE and retention/watch time on this video is going to be absolutely TRASH... but sometimes a bit of slow TV is good for you. And putting this up to document where London, Ontario is at in terms of navigability via bicycle is key, IMO.
Fake London is actually fairly navigable if you take the right routes. In this case, we're headed from Huron Heights all the way down to White Oaks for an outdoor movie night (also filming a pre-roll PSA that I filmed & produced for the City of London).

I used a GoPro Hero 9 Black on my chest for this video with a max of 100-200 ISO vecause the sensors start to fall apart after that. Exposed a bit on the lower side to keep the highlights. So its pretty true to what i was seeing at the time.
Was also testing the Tascam DR-10L Lav mic pack with a wind-muff on it. That seemed to work really well!

    Thanks for posting this.
I am retired and want to move to using an e-bike to replace some of the miles in my smogmobile, but I am struggling with it. Partially because of being in an isolated part of London - if you actually USE the bike lane on Commissioners east of Highbury it simply ends a ways before Deveron. There's no exit, no warning, no legal place to go besides Commissioners itself. Where people are driving 60 (the slow people) to 80+ (many people and most pickups). Who thought THAT was a good idea?
There IS a (convoluted) way to get to the TVP, but except for recreational riding that's not a lot of use.
Where I want to get to is the SDM and/or Food Basics at Commissioners and Deveron (although neither provide anything that looks good in the way of secure parking for a $2K e-bike).
How much theft risk do you see in locking up in front of stores (you'd need an angle grinder to get my bike free)?

Always glad to see these videos help at least someone! ♥
My dad just got an ebike as a retiree and he's put over 1500km on it this year riding around London! Specifically, it's an iGO Elite (version 1) Definitely worthwhile. He 100% loves the step-thru frame :)
As for the Commissioner's, please write your Ward Councillor and let them know that a connected cycling grid needs to be continued and be specific to your area (link: london.ca/government/council-civic-administration/city-council).
Yep, the TVP isn't always the best option - especially during the winter months (dark and unplowed)!
So when it comes to parking, we've never had issues parking many thousands of dollars worth of ebikes while grocery shopping for 20 minutes or so. But I also advise to lock properly and get Pinhead locks! Not sponsored to say that but have been using them since 2018 and they helped my bike stay safe even when locking up my ebike in downtown Toronto!! We each use an ABUS 540 U-Lock to lock up at grocery stores and other places where we'll be gone for under an hour. I know that seems expensive but because of the high build quality, these u-locks should hold out for over a decade.
Grabbing a bit of insurance for your ebike via renter's or homeowner's insurance can give you a bit of peace of mind, too. It's about $60 for 2 ebikes for us, here in London (Huron Heights area).
Also, reach out to London Cycle Link if you ever need assistance! Or me. Let me know if you have any questions - cheers!

    Did you move from Toronto?

That’s true. I’m a cyclist in London, Ontario and the drivers here are terrible, the amount of stuff that happened to me. Im surprised I’ve only been hit by a car once, and that’s not even the worst thing that happened to me while riding my bike

I would like to try to use my e-bike to go to work, located at Innovation, via Clarke Road, Hamilton Road, and crossing Commissioners Road. However, the provided bike lane is narrow and it seems like it is not there. I hope that area will be provided with a secured bike lane, like in other areas in London.

Before moving to London Ontario from Punjab I was a cycle enthusiast. I was excited to continue biking when I arrived in London. But looking at the amount of cars, i somehow cannot gather enough confidence to restart biking.

Good video to show that you CAN cycle across London and have a reasonably good time doing it.

Your city is beautiful, but there are places in this video where my wife would not feel comfortable cycling and would have to take her car instead (the bike lane that starts around 3:00 and another at 25:00 for example). But I appreciate that you're leagues further ahead of us in Fort Smith. One advantage we do have is that we are legal to cycle on the sidewalk here (if there is a sidewalk) and we do not have to wait for red lights before crossing, they can be treated like a stop sign, and stop signs can be treated like yield signs.
I have struggled to get the lav mic recording directly to the GoPro, first I bought a usb-c mic (mistake), then I bought the microphone converter (not worth $50 but okay), then I bought a Purple Panda microphone which didn't work because it's the wrong kind of 3.5mm plug. I didn't realize there were different types of 3.5mm microphones, so now I'm waiting on another converter. I will have a lot of different pieces daisy-chained together by the time I actually get it working.

Idaho stops. Bikes are different from cars.
Tell the thousands of drivers who roll through stop signs to come to full stops, then we'll talk.

This here. This poor social media addict felt the need to pull out his phone to record this insignificant interaction, clip it out of a longer video, voice over it, and post it.
This is a sad lonely soul looking for validation from strangers. And let’s be real, most of these online strangers are children too.

Jesus dude you're pathetic if you get offended so easily by this content. Maybe mind your own fucking business and let people share what they want to share. Sometimes I like to watch videos like this to get a better feel for a city before I visit.
