The one thing that i know that didn't exist when macross came out in the 80's is thrust vectoring which was a thing in macross. Now in 2023 thrust vectoring is very real and used on all modern American fighter planes. Funny how alot of anime back in the day made up alot of tech that didn't exist at that time but alot of does today.
@@AYEcorolla Doesn't matter. In a dogfight or BVR combat, the VF-1 in fighter mode will outclass today's fighters. No need for the gerwalk and battroid modes.

Also, an interesting take on the UMM-7 Micro Missile Pods, one that keeps the box-look, yet making it hollow like that adds that little bit of plausibility for use in-atmosphere.
"Robotech" came out in the U.S. when I was in the 5th grade. There had been nothing like it before in my part of the world. Everyone, boys and girls both were sucked into that world it was so different and amazing. It came on a local channel, channel 41. At the time it wasn't affiliated with any of the big channels or anything. It was local only. It showed a lot of cartoons, weekly creature features and reruns of the great shows like MASH. Anyway, we had a really bad ice storm that year, the worst in recorded history up to that point and the tower for the tv station iced and it fell over. The station couldn't afford to get it fixed and the channel was gone. Many years later it came back on the air as UPN41, and many years after that it became WB. Some useless history from a former massive Robotech fan.
ONE Critique. Only One. Stylistically the Rove 20 Gun Barrels on the head (camera unit) typically are angled back but they really should be either facing directly up (so that they dont hit any part of the folded tailpack assembly when the head camera cycles in directions) or canted slightly forward.... other than that? That was some seriously good artist work...

In reality, VF-1 can't even transform because it's too skinny without space to house the robot actuators, power packs, endoskeleton. Also the Valkyrie has design of aircraft with very bad aerodynamic rather than a spacecraft. If there's VF-1 Valkyrie being built, it would fly slow and unstable at high risk of crash. Transforming to gerwalk would lead to instant crash without enough surface to generate lift when the legs thst housed the engines are down adding serious weight imbalance. If you pitted VF-1S against the real F-14A that VF-1S copied from, the F-14A would dominate even in dogfight. Robotech macross missiles being housed in rocket pods (aka thrashcan) would reduced aerodynamic and would be ripped off when the aircraft flying faster than Mach 0.9.
