    Taking a break is the single best advice IMO. It works wonders. I often take breaks of a few days and I always come back a bit better than I was before.

    Recently brought this game during steam summer sale because I have a small love for rhythm games. But coming from games like Rock Band/Guitar Hero, jumping into this is SUCH a huge leap.
    But I am interested

    I've been playing DJ max on PC for probably 6 years and hundreds of hours (starting with trilogy)
    I'm kind of at this point where I can't really get any better. Every time I try my brain just can't make sense of what's going on and I just start spamming.
    In the context of Trilogy, I would say Hello Pinky 6B on the default difficulty is about the max I can comfortably do, but the same song 6B one step up in difficulty is too much. Just kind of a bummer.
    Pretty much any of the 4 button tracks are a breeze besides maybe stuff like ray of illuminati on max difficulty. There are sections where I can't decipher between the fast arpeggios and the double notes in between and I just start spamming. It's been about 3 years and no progress.

    The tip about the finger colors really helps a ton! So simple, but keeping that in the back of my head that my middle fingers are used for blues, really makes a difference in the high stress areas of a song.

      DJMax is one of the harder rhythm games, but none come close to IIDX or Pop'n. Those are nutty. Check 'em out if you have a Round 1 near you.

    Biggest thing to help me out with the game was getting a good set of headphones and cranking up the volume. I normally have ZERO rhythm abilities, and avoided these kinds of games for years, so having good quality audio amplified really helps pick out the rhythm I'm supposed to be following.
    Also... get a good mechanical keyboard. You don't have to spend a lot of money for some "gamer" nonsense - but it has to be reliable. I'm currently using a cheap Chinese piece of trash from Amazon and it shorts out on multi-hold notes, dropping a key and causing a break. In less extreme cases, it might just be a matter of reducing input lag by switching from a bluetooth kb to a wired one that gives you the edge. Again, recommending a mechanical keyboard since they're louder and (if you're not wearing headphones) you can match the rhythm of the keyboard clacking to the audio and visual cues.

    I've been playing Dynamix for years, and switching to a permanent layout was weird. I'm still trying to used to having my fingers in one spot at all times. I have been able to full combo up to 10 "stars" but only at 4 buttons. Any advice for advancing in buttons?
    Also, his voice is so soothing and kind of nice :)

    • @rotcivgenerico1089
      @rotcivgenerico1089 3 года назад +2

      i think the best way to advance in buttons is just playing with more buttons! I know it seems obvious, but many people are afraid of the dificulty jump
      just start with low level songs with 5b just to understand how it works, and then work your way into higher levels.
      Because you already are pretty familiar with 4b, the evolution into other buttons is going to be MUCH faster, after playing with 5b and 6b, trust me, you 'll never want to come back to 4b again
      after getting familiar with 5b, repeat the process for 6b, and then to 8b

    I read online and even see in this video that each song has it's own BPM. Some people say it saves the BPM you completed the song at but even for songs I've never completed my effector speed is staying the same. Does anyone know what setting is causing this, no one else has reported anything like this online.
    Great video, sorry for the questions in your comments, really excellent advice during the video!

    • @TheHumansPlay
      @TheHumansPlay  3 года назад

      There was an update a few months ago that made the track speed standard throughout all songs, so whatever you set your speed to 2x, 3x, 4x, etc, it will be that speed across all songs.

    One thing i find dj max or any rhythm game hard is to use pinky fingers as i never use them on any gaming. Also whenever i play i always lift up my unused fingers which imo is a bad behavior, might be indicating i was nervous while playing.
    Any tips on improving it other than practice?

    i found a problem while learning this game on pad. there a song in the game that need you to press 1+3 then 4+6 .... and ehm... you can't press left AND right at the same time on pad. you can do square and circle if you lean you finger really akwardly tho. only thing that annoyed me abit playing on the pad.

      Sounds like some kind of sync issue. I've seen adjustments on the F10 (I think) section of the settings but never had to fiddle with it before. As settings go, if you hit the 100 it should sound fine.

      Nah you just gotta develop muscle memory, ive been playing for a few months and if you're patient you'll reach a point where it feels just like magic, after developing muscle memory your fingers almost move by themselves the moment your brain recognizes the patterns.
      Getting into djmax is really frustrating, but its really worth it after a bit of practice, i hope you give it another chance.
