I hate when people try to prove that the opposing side is wrong. There are good arguments both ways. Calling Triss a traitor is a bit too much. The fact that she really regrets the wrongs she did is enough for me and I wouldn't expect more from anyone. I think Triss and Geralt make for a better couple.

there is one point you did not mention.
Witcher 1 game - Footprints in Tris house leading to a window.
Witcher 3 game - Lambert confeses he jumps from a lovers window so he dosnt hurt a dear friend.
Witcher 3 game - lamber has tris card and if you do not romance her they stay togheter.
Lambert confeses he is mean to people he likes. He calls her only Merigold.. wich she says she does not like.
sooo in witcher 1 tris was cheating on you with lambert.

The final point is what finally pushed me into the Yen camp. Triss takes full advantage of Geralt.
There is a test I like to do with fictional relationships I call the Gender Swap Test. It works pretty simple, Take the full history of the characters but swap the genders.... and see if it still comes off as sweet and romantic or if it is now tasteless and disgusting.
So, let's say we have a Witchess named Gertruda. She is in love with a warlock named Yosef. They have a volitale relationship that started with Yosef being rather selfish but, over time, the two always find their way back to each other. They also have a friend named Tait. Tait is also a warlock but he is secretly in love with Gertruda. So, one day, Tait decides to try and seduce Gertruda but the Witchess tells him no. She isn't interested, she only loves Yosef.
Then, years later, Gertruda loses her memories. Tait decides this is his chance and fails to tell Gertruda that she has a husband and starts a relationship with her that lasts years. During this time, however, another warlock, Phillip, decides he wants to use Gertruda's son as his weapon in a political war. Not only does Tait, who is a big brother to Cerek, agree to use his little brother purely as a chess piece, but Tait goes along with Phillip to see Yosef's life destroyed and does nothing when Phillip decides that the world would be better off with Gertruda dead.
When you swap the genders suddenly the touching romance becomes a manipulative man seducing a woman with amnesia and then betraying her because he can't stand up to his boss. Less fairy tale and more date rape and traitor, I'd say.

    • @gamblerfls
      @gamblerfls 6 лет назад +24

You forgot to add that ALL GERTRUDA FRIENDS hate Yosef. It wasn't only Tait who decided that Gertruda should make her own path after losing her memories. Yosef was a very toxic person to everyone around including Gertruda herself. Such relationship already failed in the past, even while enforced by Djinn spell.

    • @Phea7
      @Phea7 6 лет назад +7

Yeah, but Gertruda also builds toxic relationships and leaves her lover without warning, thinking that some flowers are enough "sorry" for, let's say, Yosef :v They are a perfect match; it's better for the world if they hurt only one another that other people too. Besides, they are weirdly ok with this situation, although they like to angst a little about it.

    • @thatsrealroughbud...2394
      @thatsrealroughbud...2394 6 лет назад +51

Except you also have a PoV chapter with "Tait" who admits that he doesn't actually love "Gertuda", but rather has always been jealous of "Yosef" because not only is "Yosef" more skilled and admired, he is also seen as being more attractive. "Tait" admits to himself that he doesn't actually love "Gertuda", but rather sees stealing her from "Yosef" as being a way to best him, because of his jealousy.
That is exactly what happens with Triss, she admits to not even loving Geralt in the books. She's just jealous of Yennifer and sees stealing Geralt, even seducing him to cheat on Yennifer as a victory over Yennifer. I was honestly team Triss for a while bc I played Witcher 2 first before reading the books. I really like her character design, but ended up just really disliking her after I read that, her betraying Yennifer and Geralt to die repeatedly, and then planning on forcing Ciri into becoming some random lordling's concubine. Just disgusting, and spineless.

Yen is not innocent but there is no question that she would die for the people she loves.
Anyone that actually read the books knows that despite how she looks and acts she is in fact a very good person.
Most of the time her frustration and why she and Gerald fight a lot is from her frustration of not being able to conceive and be a mother.
She knew it was a suicide mission going to stygga and she would be badly outmatched but she still went anyways because of her love for Ciri. I couldn't stomach reading it when she was beaten in stygga castle by Ruonce and tortured badly by Vilga. Where she almost got raped by Bonhart and she was hurt badly still
Her heartbreaking plea to Emhyr not to hurt her daughter (ciri) or make her cry while they were preparing to commit suicide as they were ordered which was the only way they could save Ciri.
How she threw herself at at the mob at Rivia and got badly beaten because of it to try and save Gerald which ultimately cost her her life.
Really those that are shitting on her without reading the books really don't know any crap they are talking about.

All you people talking shit about Yennefer seems like you never played the Last Wish Quest. Romance her and you'll find out under that shell of bitterness she's a genuine human being. Consider this, Yennefer has been abducted by the Wild Hunt and held hostage against her will, then had to lose her love of her life to the Wild Hunt for the sake of her freedom, she was then separated from Geralt and just like Geralt once torn away from the wild hunt, suffered from amnesia, she was then held a prisoner in the Emperor's dungeon, and was only let out to the news that her adopted daughter was being pursued by the Wild Hunt. She also discovered that her best friend was busy fucking Geralt while she was away. Any real human being under these circumstances would act the same as Yennefer. And it's clear that it's simply a facade she puts up to hide her pain, and it's very obvious throughout the little moments she has with Geralt, like for example the last wish quest. Or the moment before Geralt's fight with the wild hunt. Her true self was clearly revealed at the ending of Blood and Wine, if you chose to romance Yennefer that is.

Did you read the books? I think that you read the books ;o).
Yes, there are some moments between Geralt and Yen but a player who doesn't know the books spends 40 hours in the first two games with Triss. A dialogue and books within the game (which some people don't read) can't compensate that.
Many players completed the Triss quest in Novigrad first and went to Skellige afterwards. By then Yen didn't show a lot of emotions.

Funny, your little story doesn't address the fact that Geralt and Yennefer absolutely suck at being in a relationship together and mistreat each other even those few months at a time when they're on speaking terms before spending years bitterly estranged. One of the most tragic things in the books is how much happier both of them would be if they WEREN'T irrationally bound to each other. Seems to me that that should have more bearing on the decision of whether or not to restart such a relationship than whatever consideration for her "true self" you think Yennefer deserves.

Congratulations on trying to remove half of her personality and two-thirds of her agency as an individual.

I prefer to think she is a coward, too coward to confront the lodge. And also, despite she loves Geralt, cares about Ciri and respect Yen, she is too immature and selfish to take it seriously and do the rigth thing if it would be bad for her.
But a traitor... I don't think so. If she were genuinely bad she would never feel the need to be forgiben by Yen.

Well, she was the youngest member of the lodge. Most likely Triss is a bit of a magical prodigy, but she's not in the same league as Eilhart and Yennefer I wouldn't think. Most of those women were pretty damn intimidating, some of them were downright terrifying.

As regards the Lodge and the mentioned conversation I think that Triss did what she did becauce she couldn't really do anything else. What would be the point to support Yen in that conversation? Neither Triss nor Yen had the power to convince Filippa or other sorceress to change their plans for Ciri/Geralt. If Triss had support Yen she just would have lost inflluence / position in the Lodge and could not help Ciri/Geralt/Yen in the future. Remember that although she was young she was also deep in politics and had a lot of experience with kings/courts games so she wouldn't do such simple and silly mistake. I don't think she meant what you imply in this part of the movie. She proved that in the end of the Lady of the Lake.

  • @ReadR00ster1

Would rather have a gold-hearted women who puts on bossy act, than a snake that acts all sweet and innocent to trap a man. If Yen would have died in the game or books my second choice for Geralt would have been Fringilla Vigo and NOT Triss. Fringilla actually does a good job of looking out for the interests of Yen, Geralt, and Ciri while not letting on of her subversion of will of her sister lodge members. Something Triss didn't have to courage or desire to try to do.
Yen gets criticized by Witcher fans for acting bossy. Triss has been too. She got really nasty with the witchers about Ciri being trained as as witcher and how they feeding her strange things to make her stronger.
1st Game, she seduces and flirts with Geralt and treats him like her errand boy. All the while he has amnesia about what was most important to him.
2nd game. Geralt: I really wish I could get my memories back. It's bothering me I can't remember much about Yennefer. I know she is important to me but...
Triss: yeah that's too bad. I'll try to help you if you want. Maybe i can cast some spell to help you remember. I need to get the rose of rememberance. It's by a pool that makes people want to have sex. Meet me there. When you hear the moaning and sex noises you know you are there. JUST TELL HIM YOU HOE!!
Finally Triss is all about politics. In the books they argue about Geralt being neutral and no choosing a side like Triss has. That is why she buys into the Lodge's plots, and why she is willing to be complicit in Ciri's kidnapping and forcing her to marry and give an heir to the Kovir Prince eventhough she is just a very young girl who has lived a life of hell.
Call Yen a bossy b*tch all you want,. But know that she would DIE for Geralt. She's proven that TWICE!! No doubt she would do so for Ciri as well. Would Triss? I doubt it. Maybe she would have died for Foltest or Temeria or trying to save other sorcerers. She would need to have some kind of grand purpose to justify it.

Dying for someone you love of course, is important. But the wrong thing you’ve stated above is that Triss and her affiliations with the Lodge’s plots. So Triss doesnt has any bad intentions against neither Geralt or Ciri. She has been manipulated by Philippa and she also cannot gain or win anything by deserting Yen, Geralt, Ciri. Also at the first game, It is geralt who is taking steps to the other one. I mean, Geralt is the one who seduces the other relationship partner. You can refuse Triss and instead of sleeping with her, you can tell her to f*ck off. So it’s all left to player decision. Nothing to do with triss. And in the W1, she tells you that:
If you really love me and want to have an affair with me, bring me a red ring. If you dont, well i’ll try to understand.
So if you bring her the ring, she says:
So you’ve completely forgotten about her and love me?
The pronoun “her” in this sentence is directed to Yennefer. Triss is clean, innocent as a child.

3:00 Seriously? You're making Triss's silence the equivalent of "No way Yen, we're gonna kill Geralt and use Ciri as a tool". You're gonna shit on Triss beceuse she lacked the courage to say "no" to Philippa? Not every sourceress is as powerfull or strong-willed as her. Do you trully think that Philippa would tolerate such insubordination? Besides, what could Triss do? At that point of time Yennefer was a wanted fugitive with practically no chance of success. Triss, as the youngest and the least important member of the Lodge, was in no possition to help Yen. And I'm pretty sure that phrase "Forgive me" means in that context "I'm sorry Yen, I fucked up".
4:35 -5:00 Triss didn't tell Geralt about Yennefer? Well, you convinently forgot to mention that neither did Vesemir. Neither did Zoltan. Neither did Dandelion, Geralt's supposed best friend. I guess that makes them as "evil" and "manipulative" as Triss. Beceuse what reasons would they possibly had to not tell Geralt about "love of his life"?
You don't hear about Yennefer from anyone in Witcher 1 beceuse that was developers choice. It's as simple as that. They were aware that not everyone read the books. They wanted creative freedom but at the same time, they wanted to remain as close to source material as possible. Neither Yennefer nor Ciri were included in Witcher 1, beceuse they were too important characters in Witcher lore. To properly include them would require to put their (then) limmited resources into making a sufficent build-up. Without it their presence would be simply confusing for the player who had nothing to do with books. That's why they went the way they did. While Ciri and Yennefer were not included, developers made sure to put several refferences to them in the game. Those who didn't read the books weren't confused, while those who did were "rewarded" for thier knowledge. Everyone's happy.
There's also a fact that developers (while certainly considered a possibility of creating a sequel) weren't sure what fate would await the frenchise. They were smart enough to leave themselves an opening for Witcher 2, but they had no way of knowing if their first game would turn out to be a success. That's why during the development of Witcher 1 they decided to leave Yennefer's and Ciri's introduction for possible sequels.

i mostly agree with this comment versus the video. Triss is mostly powerless with the affairs for Ciri's future. she has feelings. she wants what Yennefer has, so did many others at the Thanedd dinner. don't forget she also tried to look out for Ciri before all of the complications and plans, before her Witcher training (rmb?), and even looking out for her against the all-male Witchers that didn't know the risks of training females. calling Triss a traitor is a bit too much

Totally agree with you, Yennefer at that time was completely lost, remember she was the one who decided to bring Ciri to the Aretuza and then the infamous Thanned Island.
You made a solid point on that "Developers choice" part. To be honest, you do not even need to bring up Vesemir or Dandelion. Almost every Nordlings know this strange couple because of Master Dandelion's famous ballad.
I love Yennefer more, she and Geralt are mean to be together, but still it is a sin to call Triss a traitor.

I went for Triss. Yen is a cold bitch. As far as W3 is concerned (and it should because that is where you can make the choice) Triss is much more "human". She tries to save people, even to the point where she is willing to sacrifice herself.
She is more fun to be around, she is redhead with perfect body for my taste :) Yen has great legs, but that's it. Yen is very spiteful: Gerald even discus this with Lambert, he mentions that if they get help from Yen first and Yen fails, Triss will help them and won't hold a grudge. It they go other way, Yen would be furious. Basically Yen is a bitch and I see no reason, no reason at all for Gerald to be with her :D

    • @dreamingflurry2729

      Shep117
Well, if you help Triss she's also willing to get tortured (!) and no, it was not necessary (I don't think Ciri would want this!)
Assertive? Yes, among other more negative traits, like being bossy, secretive (the quest where she goes after the Genie in order to have the binding to Geralt lifted!), my way or the highway and treating Geralt like her "bitch" (even the other Witchers (!) notice this and Vesemir isn't going to have it, he doesn't let her do it to him!)
For me Yennefer is like a woman who wants to have the "perfect" child (and Siri is close, I mean she has that elder blood power, she's also a source (so she could be a sorceress if she wasn't too afraid of her own power - which she can be because Geralt lets her get away with it!) and she's also a lot like Yen!) and the father is kind of baggage (I know, I only have the game as perspective, but from what people have told me: She isn't much different in the books - hell, there's only one positive thing about her IMHO and that's the fact that she's not into politics!)
Wasn't she also the one who once mind-controlled Geralt into getting revenge on some peasants because they were "cruel" (as in: they insulted her!) to her?
As for Triss - wouldn't you "move in" if someone you love (and who is treated badly by the person your love is with) has amnesia? I can honestly say that I don't know if I could keep myself away (and if I would tell the person that there's someone else!)
Also: On Skellige one woman even makes FUN of you (she asks if you have to ask Yen first if you want to do something!)

The point about Triss taking advantage by not telling Geralt about Yennefer before his memories start returning is patently false, she lays it all out for him in the second game as soon as he actually ASKS her about his past. Why he isn't interested before then is anyone's guess but there was no deception and so far as Triss knew Yennefer was long dead. And Geralt, not, Triss, is the one to instigate a romance.
Personally I'm not a fan of miserable and dysfunctional love-hate relationships just because they seem more romantic, so I'm leaning towards Triss on the basis of her dynamic with Geralt being happier and healthier than Yen's alone. ESPECIALLY after reading the books.

Her actions in the last book which consist of her using Ciri as a breeding mare against her will and being okay with her being brought to heel to cruel people who want to use her, her supporting the fact that they will be ripping Geralt's daughter away from him, and her supporting them imprisoning Yennefer? Wow, such redemption :/
And before that, she used magic to seduce Geralt and sleep with him (it is specified that she HAD to do it, wouldn't have managed without magic), when she was invited to Kaer Morhen she immediately started plotting on how to steal their secrets, gloating to herself how they are helpless against it. Then (after constantly throwing herself at Geralt despite the fact that he clearly didn't want it) she sides with people who have hurt Yen horribly (turned her into a figurine, a process that involves extreme pain, not to mention the complete violation of bodily autonomy) and plan to use his daughter as a breeding mare. She denies Geralt her dying wishes (she knows it is a 99% a suicide mission) and she is fine with her lover and her daughter remembering her as a traitor and hating her, she doesn't agree to spare Geralt's life, and when they think they know where Ciri and Yen are, Triss is fine with them going ahead and sweeping in, taking both girls, although it is clearly said "When the witcher comes, he will only find rumbles- and no bodies" she is fine with Geralt spending the rest of his extremely long life thinking that his lover and child are dead. IF the Lodge doesn't kill him first just in case. She then, AFTER Geralt and Ciri have defeated the big bad and survived Nilfgard, swoops in to take Ciri away. After all that poor child has been through, she insists on using her as a breeding mare against her will and bringing her to heel, forcing her into submission to the Lodge. She is ripping Geralt's daughter away from him and agreeing to imprison Yennefer. And yet, she fully expects forgiveness from Geralt!!!
She is all around a horrible person who pretends to be nice. Who /thinks/ she is being nice and only has self pity, but never empathy for others.
Yen is hardly perfect, but she loves Geralt and Ciri with all her heart, and she would die for them if need be (and she nearly did). She continued on her suicide mission to TRY and save Ciri even after she knew that should she die, two most important people in her life would hate her and scorn her name. She took care of Geralt from afar, wanting to make sure he is paid enough so that he can live properly.

A better title would be Triss isn’t honest. I wouldn’t go as far as to say traitor. In the game everyone has selfish motives. Like the biggest one is Yennefer wants a child so she moves in on Geralt child of surprise. Geralt is Ciri’s ward. Yennefer gave up her ability to have children because of her vanity. So she wanted to look beautiful and she can’t have a child now. So she regrets that and moves in on Geralt’s child of surprise. That’s a selfish bitch who wants what she wants and can’t responsibility for the choices she made.

    • @stefanmakara373
      @stefanmakara373 4 года назад

That is ridiculous. If Yen just wanted a child just because, she could have adopted any time. It is not unheard of to take in wards. She came to Ciri because Geralt ASKED her to, because Ciri needed a powerful mage to hep her. And then they slowly developed a mother/daughter relationship. Which, for Yen, included all the sacrifices a mother would make, including dying for her. Also, she didn't do it for vanity, she HAD to do it in order to become a sorceress. No court would accept a hunchback. She had to do it to survive.
And Triss 100% betrayed Geralt, Yen and CIRI when she decided to play a plot in which Ciri would be forced to be a breeding mare and a bitch to the Lodge, in which Yen will be kept prisoner (or worse) and in which Geralt, if he is not killed, will live the rest of his life thinking Ciri is dead and Yen a traitor. She kept at this until the very end.

That is but one way to look at Triss and it is also not entirely correct. The narrator also fails to mention that it was Triss who summoned her famous spell trying to save Geralt from the mob at the very end of the last book.

Yen is no better than Triss. How many times does she treat Geralt like nothing more than an armed messenger? How many times does she not tell him vital information? Plus there is the fact that her love for him and his love for her is due entirely to magic. Yes in the Witcher 3 game you are given the chance to say that you love her even after the magic is broken, but that's there for no other reason than to give you a romance option. Remove that romance option and you're left with two people that have very little in common and would probably loath each other because of what they did while under the spell that bound them.

Talk about taking stuff out of context and twisting facts, sheesh... People like you only make me NOT want to romance Yennefer.
I agree with the broader idea that Triss made some really poor decisions in the books that were to the detriment of her friends. If you had said that she was a real lousy friend to Yennefer there, or that she's just incredibly stupid and spineless when dealing with Philippa in general, I'd agree with you. Philippa is talking out of her ass to try to manipulate Yennefer, and in the part right after that, Philippa says that the reason she won't tell Geralt is that she knows he'll run off and get himself killed trying to avenge her, and that would just make things worse. Geralt's just making his way to Toussaint where the Lodge has other plans for him when they find out he's there. Namely, having Fringilla Vigo seduce him. To say that this passage indicates that Triss wasn't willing to lift a finger to save Geralt's life here is, uh, creative. You also have to look at what Triss does after the conversation. The very next thing she does is leave Philippa and set off to Skellige alone to search for Yennefer. Geralt is safely tucked away in Toussaint by the way, so there is no need to help him. What Triss chooses to do when she is free is try to go help her friend. The fact that she doesn't turn against Philippa during the conversation is a sign of weakness, not malice. When I look at her betrayal, the intent matters more than the act. By the end of the books she conquers her fears and redeems herself, and continues to do so in the games.
As for the last point, going by your words that also makes all of Geralt's friends including Vesemir (his father figure), all horrible people and liars? Because absolutely none of them mentions anything about Yennefer during his amnesia. In fact, Triss tried to tell him details of the past, but Geralt shot her down every time saying he wasn't ready. Have you perhaps considered the possibility that Geralt was indeed conflicted about recovering his memories? On one hand, he wanted to recover them, on the other hand, you know, "ignorance is bliss" as they say, and he was quite happy with his new life with Triss and his friends... why take the risk of ruining everything by bringing all the luggage from his previous life back? Then during the interrogation he remembered something and the damage was already done, he had to know so he asked her and she told him about it on the way to Floatsam. So, until he had specifics, both of them are "guilty" of not prioritizing the recovery of his memories and you know, I can perfectly understand that, they were having a great time...
And since we are on subject of betrayal, Yennefer is the one who betrayed Geralt in the games, she recovered her memory quickly, but didn't bother searching for Geralt, she didn't even tell him Ciri was back and in danger until months of her looking for Ciri by herself. She ONLY contacted Geralt when she realised she couldn't find Ciri alone. Also Yennefer lies to Geralt constantly, uses magic on him, invades his mind, and treats him like a dog.

I never read the books so im sure this will anger a lot of people who are lovers of the books, and believe me i completely understand as I am a huge Tolkien and Star Wars fan and the Hobbit movies and new Star wars movie really piss me off. Personally I went with Triss in the Witcher 3 game. Yes she did take advantage of you in the first Witcher game which is pretty shitty, but at the same time she is helping you through the entire game, and not to mention she does decide in the end to help you find Yen at the end of Witcher 2. This could be seen as her trying to save face, but personally I was glad she was willing to give up her relationship with Geralt to help find Yen. Now part of the reason why I felt turned off by Yen in the Witcher 3 was because she was very clearly abusive to Geralt. She was constantly rude to him and controlling and condescending, and took advantage of him, not telling him the full truth, leading him into thievery, and countless other things that were not okay, she made Geralt do the most of the heavy lifting in finding Ciri as well, and she often just sat around while Geralt did the work. Triss on the other hand did not seem so adverse to "getting dirty" as she had been largely humbled by her degraded position in the Witcher 3. Triss felt like a much more independent woman and not do dependent on Geralt. Finally one of the biggest issues I had with Yen was her lack of appearance in the first 2 games. Which one could say, well she had amnesia and was being taken to Nilfgaard, but by her own admission she did not suffer from amnesia long as Imperial mages had her worked out fairly quickly, and then after this she simply goes about her business expecting Geralt will eventually come find her, and she seems completely uncaring of Geralt as he is currently struggling through the ordeals of Witcher 1 and 2. Yen sat on her ass in Nilfgaard and just waited for Geralt to come to her, and when Geralt finally did regain his memory he dropped everything, including his lover of the time, Triss who had been by his side for 2 previous games helping him, and imeditatley went searching for Yen. Geralt clearly felt more for Yen if he was willing to drop everything and go searching for her immediately, and Yen didnt even lift a finger to find him, just expecting that Geralt will eventually come find her. To me, post amnesia is a new Geralt, and I dont think after years of abuse, manipulation, and control from Yen that Geralt is interested in being romantically involved with her. As Geralt says in the game, he has reached a "Harmony" with Triss, and I think Triss is the better pick. Also Redheads ;)

@@HypocriteHunter666 Thats not right. You have the wrong impression and it's clear you haven't read the books, especialy when the lodge was formed.
I'm gonna talk about books now, because the lodge was first introduced in them.
And CDPR just took that idea and twisted it a bit.
After the council and the conclave of mages where prety much destroyed as institutions at the battle on Thaned island ( mages fought mages )Phillipa wanted to create a secret institution to protect the mages interests and the magical world. She invited a couple of sorceresess from difrent factions to introduce the ideea.
      - 6 from the Northern Kingdoms (Philipa, Shela, Sabrina, Keira, Margarita, Triss)
      - 1 elven sorceress ( Francesca )
      - 1 from Nilfgard ( Assire )
They agreed to form the lodge, and Assire and Francesca were asked to invite 3 more. Assire brings Fringila, Francesca brings Ida and Yennefer
( who she had compressed into a figurine at the battle on Thaned ).
At the first meeting they discussed about Ciri. About her heritage, her powers, her potential and the prophecy involving Ciri (the elder blood) how her child is destined to rule the world.
After that Phillipa presents her plan, to use Ciri and her child as basicaly a puppet. She wanted to mary Ciri to the prince of Kovir ( at that time Tankred ) to get impregnated as fast as posible, to give birth to the prophesized king of the world, and basicaly to rule the world threw him.
After learning the lodges plan for Ciri, Yennefer escaped to find her first. And its funny because Fringila helped her escape, a total stranger, not Triss, her friend.
It's worth mentioning that is exactly what Emhyr also wanted with Ciri, thats why he was looking for her in the books. He wanted the prophesized king of the world to be born in Nilfgard, BUT ,and this is where things get weird, not his grandson (Ciri's child with some noble) he wanted his son to be ruler of the world.
Yes Emhyr is Ciri's biological father, and yes that is what he wanted, to impregnate her. ( i know, gross )
He has an entire conversation with Geralt about his plan, Geralt also thinks is gross. He asks Geralt if he would be okay with the idea of comiting suicide alongside Yen, they agree, but they want to say good by to Ciri first. When he sees Ciri interacting with Geralt and Yennefer, he has a change of heart, he let's them go.
Actualy he escorts Geralt and Yen to a room with a pool filed with hot water so they could cut their veins, and tell's them they dont have to hurry, Yennefer has a request for Emhyr not to hurt Ciri, because she doesn't want to die with the tought that she cries. Emhyr ensures her that he will not hurt their daughter
( he says that ) and leaves them there. After that he says good by to Ciri, barks some orders to his army and leaves. Then Ciri takes Geralt and Yen from the pool ( obviously they fuck first ), and they are free and travel a couple of months togheter, until the lodge order's Ciri and Yennefer to go to them.
Returning to the lodge, Triss knew their plan all along, nothing was kept a secret from her, the lodge was built with the idea of honesty among his members, nothing would be kept a secret, honesty was madatory.
And she was dedicated to the lodge from the start.
She has a change of heart at the end in Rivia at the pogrom. Mostly thanks to Yennefer.
And what he says in this video about Triss choosing the lodge over Yennefer and Geralt, its true. Thats how it is in the books.
Because Phillipa refused Yennefer's request, Triss siding with Phillipa and the lodge, they couldn't find Vilgefortz's hideout sooner (the final boss of the books, who again wanted Ciri to impregnate her and steal her powers).
Yennefer in her crazy suicide mission was captured, beaten, forced with a megascope to scan for Ciri, tortured so that she would cooperate, but she didn't give up Ciri, she kept her emphatic matrice safe, but she tought of Geralt and couldn't keep his matrice hidden. After that she was imprissoned for months.
Because of that Geralt was nearly killed, before he reaches Tousaint. Where Fringila was given the task by the lodge to keep him there as long as possible. She even had meetings with them via megascope reporting what Geralt was doing. And Triss was present during this meetings, she knew Geralt was in Tousaint, but she didn't try to contact him, because she was loyal to the lodge.

Triss' betrayal is more from a combination of paralyzing fear from her experience in the Battle of Sodden Hill, peer pressure from the lodge, and her divided/conflicting loyalty involving Ciri, Geralt, and Yennifer vs the Lodge, given that Phillipa pushes the idea that the lodge serves the interests of magic and their ideal of the greater good. Triss is a character with many character flaws but in the end does work past them and find the right path.

As someone who has read the books I still chose Triss. While the actions described in this video are undoubtedly wrong I always saw it as her making this choice reluctantly. That's why she asked Yen to forgive her. And when we see her in Wild Hunt she's not the same person who made that choice. She has been stripped of all her power, wealth, influence, and privilege and this shows her true character. She has dedicated herself completely to fighting for those she cares about and the causes that matter to her. I don't believe that her concern for the spellcasters of Novigrad is motivated by greed or a desire for personal gain. She's changed for the better and it shows in her actions in Wild Hunt.

    • @ConorCarlisle

I don't think Triss as she's portrayed in Wild Hunt would choose your save her own life over Geralt or Ciri's. If that was the case I don't think she would have aided Geralt in defending Ciri at Kaer Mohren. She had nothing to gain by doing that. She could have just stayed with the other mages in Kovir where it was safe. But even if you don't profess your love for her as she's about to leave she comes back and helps you in your time of need. She risks her life to protect Ciri. To me, this demonstrates that Triss is complex. She isn't completely righteous or perfect by any means. But I do believe that ultimately she is a good person. And after all, The Witcher has always been a series that tries to steer clear of concepts like pure good and pure evil. Nearly every character exists somewhere in shades of gray.

Naaah, it's a big simplifying of things. When considering her being in the loge you have to remember that she was not only much less powerful sorceress that Phillipa, Shealla, Francesca, Yennerfer and the others. The other factor is that she was actually exiled from her original Temerian position at court and was much dependent on loge and Phillipa in particular. She wasn't an important loge member and her treachery was only in complying to stronger sorceresses will. You picture Triss as if she was equal to Phillipa, while in books it seems that she was a secondary person in loge, used mainly due to her connection to Ciri and Yennefer. It's nothing that she should be proud of, but not an active act of treason.

  • @lescud

for book-triss to be considered a traitor there would have to be an actual act of betrayal, which there isn't....
book-triss isn't an active driver within the lodge, she is very young, impressionable, inexperienced and naive. plus and above all else is she extremely scared of philippa. the worst thing book-triss does is being conflicted and staying passive.
BUT triss absolutely redeems herself in the last book, during the final showdown in riva.
as for game-triss, she doesn't tell geralt about yen, because it was beneficial for the plot. had they introduced yen in the series that early, they would have been forced to have the story revolve around ciri as well.
don't hate on the character for weak writing on the game-developers part early in the franchise.

So Triss didn't side with the Lodge when she knew that their plan was to force Ciri into an arrainged marriage/affair with the prince of Kovir so that they can control the Northern Kingdoms and Kovir through her and her child? Did she look for Yennefer later on or when Phillipa made it clear they would let Geralt die?
If this isn't a betryal of Yennefer's friendship and trust then I don't know what is.
She made her choice and even Nenneke scolds her for it : “I feel lied to, cheated, robbed,” said Triss Merigold. Nenneke did not answer for a long time, she gazed from the terrace overlooking the temple’s garden, where the priestesses and novices devoted themselves to the spring works.“You made a choice,” she said finally. “You chose your path, Triss. Your own destiny. Voluntarily. This is no time to grieve.”“Nenneke,” the enchantress looked down. “I cannot really tell you more that what I have said. Believe me and forgive me.”

    • @lescud
      @lescud 8 лет назад +11

her role (at that point of the story) still remains a very passive one. triss refuses to speak up for yen, yes, but it is with philippa in the room...
and "the lady of the lake", the events in riva, are clearly about redemption for triss and reconciliation between triss and yen / ciri / geralt.
it is merrigold's hailstorm spell that ultimately saves them... and yen thanks her for it.
there is absolutely no reason to consider triss a traitor after having read the entire saga.
and as for the games and the weak argument (not yours, in the video) that she didn't tell geralt about yen. well, yen (memory and mind fully intact a lot earlier) didn't bother looking for geralt either for two games now, did she? with a rather lame explanation as to why ... :)

Calling triss a traitor is way over the top. Granted she lied to Geralt and did nothing when Philipa was trying to manipulate ciri, and that was more Philipa then triss anyway. She was just following the lodge and in the end backed out. She did not tell Geralt the truth not because she was evil, but she loved Geralt and did not want to lose him. In the end that love showed that she cared enough to put her own feelings aside and help him. Now about Yen. She has always been a bitch even in the books, however that is how she is and that is not bad. However in the books she cheated on Geralt and felt completely justified in doing so, yet gives Geralt a hard time for sleeping with triss when his memory was gone? That is a double standard. In fact in Witcher 2 she tried to sleep with another Witcher when her memory was gone. She may love Geralt and that is a fact, but a cheat is a cheat. Also what she pulled in skelliga with the necromancy, that was uncalled for. I would have agreed with her if she tried to consider another option but she refused and did what she pleased. That is a no go for me. Last thing is, she withholds information. She did this 2 times in Witcher 3. This is why I did not go with yen. I like her bitch attitude and she is hot as hell, but her willingness to run people over is wrong, so I went with triss. I disliked this video because he said go yen and drop kick triss. If he did not say that at the end I would have liked.

The fact this video has so many dislikes is hilarious. It's literally just 'blah-blah-blah i'm not listening.' This guy's just explaining some simple facts that happen in the Witcher universe, no one should feel so insecure for doing something in a video game. Granted, Triss is a *nicer* person than Yennefer, albeit more dull and rather easy, so i can see why she appeals more than the lore-friendly option.

I have not read the books and is firmly on #teamtriss but and I admit: during Witcher 1 I thought Triss was shady as fuck. What with conspiring with mysterious mirror people and wanting a magically gifted child for who knows what reason.
HOWEVER! Back in Flotsam during Witcher 2, she redeemed herself saying she no longer cared about power and politics and would be fine just living quietly with Geralt in Kaer Morhen. She redeems herself even more when she is rescued from the Nilfgaardians and Geralt asks her about the Lodge of Sorceresses. She says that she has no association with them anymore, no longer gets invited to meetings and that she had no idea their plans would be this drastic. She also says that the Lodge was a 2 woman show with Philippa Eilhart and Sile de Panzerville running things and the others just nodding along. The conversation with Yen from the video confirms this last. I read it as Triss being intimidated by Philippas prescence and doesn't dare speak up. She knows she is on the wrong side which is why she asks Yen for forgiveness. Basicly, in the Lodge, Triss got involved with some bad people. Realizing they were bad however, she didn't really dare to quit until after Witcher 1.

Did you read the books? Triss was always a coward and low powered as compared to Filippa, Francesca or Yen. She was traumatised by her injuries from battle of Sodden. And was in love with Geralt. And she was bullied by Yen on many occasions. Thus siding with the "Coven" and trying to win Geralt (whom she perceived treated badly by ever bitchy Yen). She is much more complex than you tell in this video. And she is a redhead ;)

I read the books but Triss is still one of my favorites.
No, she is not perfect and yes, she did many things wrong, but I think she is an interesting character and not just evil. I am not even mad at her betrayal. She had the choice between betraying the Lodge and betraying Yen and was in a difficult situation. She probably didn't make that choice lightly.
Triss seduces Geralt when he and Yen were not together (since it was a kind of on-off relationship). Geralt never cheated on her, never slept with anyone else when he was in a relationship with her, something Yen did. She slept with Geralt at night and in the morning she visited a sorcerer 'friend' of hers.
Don't get me wrong. I like Yen. She is a great and strong character. But Triss is not the only one who messed up things and since she:
    1. had to choose a loyalty
    2. saved Geralt life by bringing her to the Dryads
    3. was a friend to Geralt and Ciri and a mentor to Ciri as well
    4. Redeemed herself
    5. never wanted to hurt Ciri like Vilgefortz and even the Elves and Nilfgaard wanted to (the Lodge wanted her as her puppet but if you read the books the others wanted some really fucked up things)
I still think that she is great and I like her.
I have no problem when you prefer Yen, since the book romance was breathtakingly beautiful, but I choose Triss in the Game and don't regret it.

This is the point I make. They (Yen and Triss) are both imperfect, flawed characters. My main selling point from only playing the games is that Yen, rescued from the wild hunt, and recovered by the lodge, restored memories through magic, never.ever. came for Geralt. She abandoned him. I couldn't forgive that. Perhaps even in the game, Triss took advantage and maybe even thought she was helping Geralt, but her continual support of other people, self-sacrificing stances, and willingness to let Geralt be with Yen again, proved to me even if Triss started out as a selfish, manipulator, she had grown through the collapse of the lodge, into a person who understood their choices mattered and affected others. Yen continually used the ends-justify-the-means and had no remorse for leaving a stricken, memoriless "lover" lost. She figured he'd be fine and the Djinn wish would continue to work it's magic to bring them together. She could have come to him any time, and chose not to.
I'm not saying Yen is evil, but she isn't anything but toxic, as is Geralt and Yens relationship with or without the wish.

    • @adriancristian6625
      @adriancristian6625 3 года назад

      Your point is wrong.
The game canon is that the Wild Hunt kidnapped Yennefer from the island of Avalon and Geralt chasses them across the continent. Geralt saves Yennefer trading his life in exchange for her. And let Letho and his companions to keep her safe.
Yennefer also had amnesia, but she wasn't found by the lodge, they were arrested in Nilfgard.
      They were seperated and interogated.
Letho and his friend were offered a deal, to go north and distabalized the kingdoms, they accepted.
Yennefer was a prisoner in Nilfgard and was only relesed because the emperor needed her to find Ciri, who supposebly returned.
Yennefer found out about Getalt and Triss, but she didn't contact him because finding Ciri before the Hunt was a priority, and Geralt was safe in comparison.
She most definetly was hurt and felt betrayed, not only by Geralt but also by Triss.
She didn't knew about Geralt's amnesia until he tells her in Wizima, in the 3rd game.

When your close friends like Cerys, Vesemir, Ermion, Lambert, Keira, that uh... guy with the ugly scars... and even Dandelion make comments on how awful Yen is and in turn how awful being with her must be it is time to take the hint that the relationship is more toxic than you can actually see for yourself. The first red flag was having sex on mythological, stuffed animals.
Very other line between these two is either a sigh, a sarcastic remark, or shooting down Geralt's already cheesy jokes. When he talks to Triss, she seems to actually work with the humor and make Geralt actually fucking smile for other reasons besides the prospect of sex.
Then you have Yen who so... "selflessly" tells you that she'll take the blame for destroying a garden with necromancy when it was only her fault to begin with. She also disrespected an entire country's culture and folklore. She always says something that makes Geralt's eyes roll, she reads his mind all the time (trust issues, much?). Triss risked her life fucking twice for others. The first being the mages of Novigrad, and the second Geralt himself by losing some fingernails.
Long story short, I fucked Yen once, fucked Triss, broke up with Yen, lost a really nice bed, then fucked Triss again.

Why did Yenn destroy the garden? She wants to find and protect Ciri who is like a daughther for her, whatever the costs may be. You can argue that she crossed a line but she does anything she can to protect her beloved "daughter".
It seems that she is a cold person. Her coldness is her armor to protect herself.
SPOILER ALERT: In the books Yenn dies while trying to heal Geralt's wounds with a spell who takes her life energy although she knows that its in vain.

Triss might have manipulated Geralt and Jennifer in the past but when you say she tries to make up "a little" I assume you mean to say getting her nails ripped off by a torturer for the sake of helping Geralt find Dandelion and Siri.
On the opposite end you got Jennifer doing necromancy on mangled corpses begging for and end to their suffering and risking an actual Armageddon scenario by using the Mask of Ouroboro.
I judge people by who they are, not who they were. And for a bonus Geralt and Jennifer were bound to love each other by a Djinn wish, so its not exactly a level playing field.

The Djinn's spell wasn't a love spell, it merely tied their fates to each other. Their love was always real. While Triss' affair with Geralt was based on manipulation and lies.

    { I can't stand it when people call Yen abusive. I hate when people use this world like "oh look a butterfly". Abusive parents or partners damage their children/partners for life, ruin them emotionally for their life and sometimes also physically but hey just throw words around to look 'EDUCATED'. }
Brace yourself novel comment is coming...
Yennefer and Geralt have a relationship on eye level, they are both alphas but that doesn't make a relationship impossible. They are written to be a complicated pairing. Both emotionally as well as physically deep damaged, hated by the common people because they are different. Their lovestory is one of the strongest and most touching ones.
Triss fucked up in the books. Oh, she did so bad... but because she always thought she would be doing the right thing for Ciri, Yennefer (lol still her best friend, these catfight imaginations are bullshit) and Geralt. And even when Yennefer asked her to change sides and help her rescuing Ciri, she didn't turn away from the Lodge because well the Lodge isn't that bad (Phil is but the Lodge has no bad intentions with her, keep in mind in which wolrd this saga takes part, also some read some of Sapkowskis interviews you soon will see what I mean). Yennefer, Ciri, Geralt, Triss, the Lodge all go different ways and it ends up in pure chaos. Of course the 'good' have teamed up and the 'bad' could have teamed up but that would have ruined a great saga and wouldn't have made this wonderful bittersweet ending with Triss and Yen teaming up and Yen and Geralt dying together (last part not so wonderful but great ending!).
    Now more about *Triss*:
Triss is young and feels lost, that's why she kept sleeping around till she found someone who is more mature than the most mages. The magical community is a strange and twisted and foremost DANGEROUS one. Cuties don't live longe there, that's why Triss is NO cutie as well. Now Yennefer who is more than twice as old as Triss found someone in her age, someone who cares for his friends, with morals and all that you don't find under magicians. But Geralts knows about this crush after... unwanted events... and tries to keep away from Triss, now she fills up all these wholes with *imagination* what best fits into her picture of him (that's not negative, we all do that).
Thing is as Geralt in the games Triss is super easy to handle because she has this childish crush (yet they to 100% don’t fit together, *ALSO keep in mind you are playing the games, not Geralt*). Most gamers romance her because she’s easy to handle as Geralt, would you have to make an OC Triss would probably not bat an eye. It’s mentioned that she’s sleeping around because she's feeling lost (and that’s her right, a woman can sleep with as much people as she wants (yes facebook I’m talking to you)) but I don’t think it’s easy to get into her pants when you’re just playing the macho dick faking feelings (lol no offense to anyone romancing Triss except the dickheads that do it for "big tits and wet pussies").
Great comment by tumblr user "aliceofwasteland":"I’m tired of hearing some people say how Triss is better because “she’s pretty and sweet and sexy and kind”. Triss is a lot more than that but the games and also parts of the fandom have reduced her to a “cool girl”. Triss is a more complex character according to the lore. She’s a war veteran, a politician, an academic and many other things. She has insecurities but also a sharp tongue. She has PTSD. She has a redemption arc that the games pretty much ignored."
Sorry for my english I'm not a native speaker. :)
Also good video, just hope you won't be flooded with hate comments. :)

Yes, I agree. In the games they portrayed her very over the top. Not telling Geralt about the Mask, something she never did in the books. It's a very harsh contrast and that's horrible in a world that's made to feature many grey-shade characters.
But I've also heard from many people how never heard of the books that they rather go with Yennefer because game-Triss is simply to childish for them and I must admit I felt like a pedophile when I romnced her, even when I'm around her 'appearance-age'.

temeriasfirehawke Yeah, she was a little over the top, but I never real felt like she was bad. She should have told Geralt about the mask though, and the trial.
As for Triss, I never felt she was childish. She showed great maturity and care for other wellbeing. At the time of course, I had no idea of her past, so to me she was just a great person. Now I now she was trying to make amends for what she did.

i feel like triss wanted to defend herself as being a sorceress by joining the lodge since after the second game using magic is shamed upon and they knew that would happen; not to mention they wanted to unite the lands. The lodge wanted to manipulate ciri and she had to go with it because philipa is more powerful and nobody backed her up. But as a relationship standpoint goes in the second witcher game when you are leaving flotsam dandelion says that geralts relationship with yennefer was toxic so that implies that dandelion knew about yen as well and didn't tell him. So if you think about it maybe she thought she was better for him and she thought that this was her opportunity to prove it. Not to mention if Yen actually loved geralt she would of came to him or summoned him to Nilfgard. And lastly triss doesn't force herself on geralt she lets him decide for himself which means she wanted whats best for him.

Late to the conversation, but finally replaying the Witcher 3 with all the DLC, I ended up going with Triss (having not read the books), but even with this clarity, I'd still choose Triss. I think all your points are valid, but (and this is knowing nothing of how the relationship develops in the books, of course) I found Yennifer to be utterly repulsive as a romantic interest. Every time there was a moment of interaction between them, it always felt as though Yennifer was either looking down on Geralt or humoring him to maintain a false sense of balance. I never got the impression that Yennifer thought of Geralt as an equal except in the instances where Geralt's choices mirrored hers. There are moments when Geralt helps Ciri mature and develop into her own person where Yennifer might have done something more impulsive and Geralt holds her back, but these do little to instill a sense of Geralt's personality providing a counterbalance to Yennifer's. If anything, Yennifer gives the impression that whatever she does is fine, because she's always willing to accept the consequences of her bad decisions and either repair the damage afterward or simply accept the loss. I've rarely encountered a character more self-centered than Yennifer, and found it extremely gratifying to tell her I felt nothing after the djinn removed the spell binding them together.

Just for a mention..... THIS IS GAME AND ITS MADE DIFFERENT THAN BOOKS! You do NOT have choice in book or even series that came out to choose between two of them. If you talk GAME like I would listen, but you are comparing what happens in book and thus why you should not choose Triss. Its the stupidest argument ever, not to mention Yen relationship even in books will ALWAYS be that one toxic relationship that everyone despise, but they are both afraid what will happen if they split so in Witcher 3 Yen finds Djin to prove that Geralt really loves her because SHE DOES NOT TRUST HIM. I have so many more comments on this, and to you dear Taureor...Do not compare books to series, series to game and game to books... they are all different.

Yennefer was an unfaithful bitch and a liar who used Geralt constantly. She had never loved him of her own free will, but because of magic. Triss, unlike her, confessed to using Geralt and that is why she is better than Yennefer.

You know... I'm sorry, but I've read the books, and calling Triss "a traitor" is a bit too much. She's... Well, a sorceress. You know, sorceress are much like this way all the time. It's what make them so... Interesting, and one of the best groups in the witcher, and I say this because, without sorceressess, Witcher's world will be quite less interesting. Specially in the books. In the games are... Not quite well implemented as in the books. Sorceressess are always like this. So calling Triss "a traitor" is a bit too much. You have to love her for what it is.
However, if you play in the witcher 3 as Geralt, that can remember everything (don't know how exactly works this books- games continuity) that happened in the books, then you have to choose Yen. Geralt will always choose Yen in the end. Choosing Triss is... Just not how Geralt of Rivia works XD

This would be compltely false. The books are the lore to the first game, geralt is said to have been made to ride with the wild hunt, through time and space, on back of the unicorn that Ciri saved, this is how she saved him from his death in the revolt in rivia.
He is returned and found, barely alive, and nursed back to health at Kaer Mohren to start the prologue of the first game, the cut scenes and stories told throught the first game provide this continuity. The game developers also spoke of how the author communicated a way for the games to be made, this form of continuity makes sense as ithlinnes prophecy is a key concept in the books and is the fundemantal plot line that links the whole trilogy of games.

No, only Sapkowski said so. The devs never denied the reliance of The Witcher game series in terms of lore on the books.

+Shaun Biggs Bollocks, the games are fan fiction, nothing more. Geralt died in "The lady of the lakes", Yen followed him soon after, and it was permanent. Sapkowski had nothing to do with the games plot, and he basically disowned them (while acting quite like an asshole in the process).

Ricardo Fernandez Torres Ofcourse, it's too much. Betraying a best friend who cared about her too much, loving her boyfriend but then abandon him when his life is in danger and instead of siding in his side, she sided with Lodge. Helped lodge to kidnap Ciri. Used Geralt for Lodge. Used him for her own satisfaction without caring about how much it can hurt her friend who cares about her too much that they had stronger bond than Geralt-Yen bond, as Yen mentioned in books as far as I recall. Yes, obviously, calling her traitor is too much.

Anyone who have read all the books, would see that Geralt and Yennefer is a LOVE STORY. Also if you played all the games you would see that Triss knew her friend Yennefer was in trouble, but never told Geralt for her own selfish reason. Taureor I agree 100% with your video.

    [SPOILER]
She helps Ciri at Kaer Morhen when she was 12-13.
Assists Geralt when Vilgefortz hurt him badly, she carries him to Brokilon.
She votes yes (at the Lodge) to Ciri going to see Geralt to Rivia.
She acts in favour of non-humans, beside Yennefer, at Rivia.
“Triss lies Geralt about Yen in The Witcher 2, taking advantage of him”. If not, TW2 wouldn´t go on, knowing the player at the beginning that Yennefer was kidnapped by the Wild Hunt, then joined Letho (and other witchers), working for Nilfgaard. So, it´s a script matter. What is more, Yennefer would be a traitor too, allying with Emhyr.
    [SPOILER]

I personally dont believe in that one true love and destiny bs which is why am holding bk on reading the books. Let it be none now that i dont accept nor like the fact that triss stole her bestfriend man but we cant help who we fall for (still not an excuse). In the witcher 3 yennifer is a bitch (dont try to defend her) but she's also charming, like when she bossed geralt to go do something but then pulls him back to give him a kiss (start of the game i believe). Geralt is blinded by his love for her to see that she doesnt exactly treat him right and i know most yen and geralt fan believe he loves her for who she is but if he wasnt blinded by love i think it'd be a different situation. Cerys couldnt stop making remarks about how geralt needs yennifer approval to do something, keira also pointed out that yennifer treats him like a dog and in the witcher 2 after triss told geralt about yennifer on the boat and dandelion started narrating he described the love between geralt and yennifer as "toxic".I have seen the book readers saying they broke up and got back with each other several times which means they're fated for each other but isnt that sorts of like that abused woman in an abusive relationship that keeps going back to the same guy that just fucked her up a week ago and if you ask her why she keeps going back she'd say "It love, you dont understand it and our relationship"In this case that geralt (metaphorically). I believe the choice given to you by the game developers to romance triss is for those like me that dont believe in one true love and would like to explore something different. In my first experience with the game (witcher 3) i fell inlove with trisses character even though yennifer was introduced first and I was planning on romancing triss but i lost my game saved data so i had to start all over and this time i romanced yennifer because of two reasons,1. The book readers constant naggin on how yennifer is meant for geralt because of the books, 2. I wanted to see if i'd feel better about my decision even though i still didnt like yen (I dont hate her yennifer at times i like her but most of the time her annoying behaviour far outweighs her charm), so i romanced yen and at the end of blood and wine she came to live with me, it was at that moment i realised that at times it better to do what you want rather than what other people want, am going to play it all over again but this time triss will be my companion (shoutout to shani). I seen people saying yennifer got tortured for ciri and all that, but I can also argue that that the book and in the game triss gave herself up even though she knew what would happen(tortured and then probably burned at the stake) just for geralt cause. Now i could have liked yennifer if it wasnt for one thing she'd done that totally ruined it all for me, when she brought back that poor boy soul that helped ciri get away from the hunt. I dont give a flying fuck how much she loves ciri even though that aint even her daughter, she had no right and no excuse to do what she'd done it was such a painfull thing to watch because you can clearly see the boy is in pain and she kept on shouting at him, no decent human would do what she'd done even the witcher next to her that people say have no emotion was against it and please dont tell me she had to do it because that the only way, she's a powerful socceress who knows alot of people with power am sure there's always something else she could have done but her been a control freak she couldnt be bothered and even if she did have to do it she didnt have to be so rude, honestly if i had a dagger at that moment i would drive it into her heart to see what it made off. So in conclusion you can like yen but she is madly flawed in the game and if you like her cool that means she's your type but i dont like her for been too controlling, ohh yh one last thing i loved how vesemir and lambeth always seem to put her in her place when she tries to boss them around, geralt is truly an idiot and blind if he cant see that his got more options on the table for him once again shoutout to shani.

Even with the video I'm still like "meh". Yen is such a bitch to Geralt in Witcher 3 that I purposely goaded her and actively disliked her. Geralt could obviously hold out on his own against her, but I just got tired of her constant bitching. Triss is a sweetie.

  • @LightningRaven42

I'm RE-reading the Lady of The Lake right now and i'll disregard the ending of the video (biased).
While Triss failed many times to stand up against her role models and way powerful sorcerers, she was in the Lodge with the intent to help Ciri and protect her against possible ill intent from the rest of the sorceresses. She made many mistakes because she believed in her friends and wanted to do good (the Lodge was her means to do that, since the mages in general were losing influence in the kings' courts).
The video is not wrong entirely, but only told half of the story. Is the same as saying that Yennefer is a lying betraying bitch, that toyed with Geralt and is baby crazy. All i said about Yen was true, but that is only half the story and even less than that.
Yennefer is an awesome character and i chose her over Triss after reading the books, but what you presented her was just half-truths.

What Triss said with Nenneke is enough, no need to argue, she said she did the right thing to be with the Lodge. When was triss in Brenna ? ( but Coen was, a witcher), When Triss was in Stygga's castle ? But some Geralt's friends was killed in there. Triss is a schemer and tried to use Cirilla like a puppet.
Only Geralt, Yennefer, Cahir, Emiel-Regis, Milva, and Angouleme were the good guys. This were facts.

You clearly forgot Triss' thoughts during the first encounters with the lodge, didn't you? Or Maybe when she was in Elander and a lot of people in the world dreamt of Ciri. She was really upset because she couldn't help Ciri.
The Lodge had good goals, the problem was Philippa Eilhart being too powerhungry. And if you think planing to give the best marriage possible for the Princess of Cintra and be by her side protecting her against her own friends is bad, imagine Yennefer that took part in the manipulations that ocurred with the Elder Blood gene that ended up in Ciri?
Yes. Yennefer was involved with a lot of manipulations with other sorceresses then regreted it, because Ciri was now her daughter.
Triss may have made some bad decisions, but she kept her goal of helping CIRI, not the lodge, in mind. The Lodge was a means of helping Ciri (and the world).

"thoughts" are Bullshit, only proof are facts. There was no proof in Yennefer about Cirilla, Filippa and Triss brought war on Thanedd, it is fact. Yennefer and Tissaia de Vries tried to stop that, it is fact. The Lodge never Tried to help Ciri, they never moved when she was in danger. ( Bonhart, Vilgefortz, Avallac'h, etc...) don't talk about something you don't understand. With the Lodge it was like Vilgefortz ( he dreamed to be a god) but here Cirilla must be intentional. worst idea ever.

      Jean-christophe Blanke
Seriously bro? You're saying "thoughts" are bullshit? Thoughts WRITEN in the novel?
The Lodge wanted to make Cirilla queen and control her (Philippa Eilhart wanted that), Triss from the begining sided with Ciri. I don't know if you know, but EVERYBODY was looking for Ciri, but didn't found her, how can you use as an argument that they didn't wanted to do good by Ciri because the Lodge didn't helped her in foreign country without any way of pinpoint her location?
The Lodge had good intentions, YES. Their goals were good, but tainted by Philippa's need for seizing power. But all of the sorcerers wanted a world without war and where magic, science and knowledge thrived. Philippa wanted to be the one who ruled the world through manipulation of Ciri, Triss was there to be an advisor and support her and help her become the best and wisest queen possible.
You clearly don't know what happened, huh? Philippa prevented a lot of deaths when acting in thanedd against the sorcerers who SOLD THEMSELVES to Nilfgaard. They fought and Yennefer and Tissaia FUCKED UP, showing CIRI TO EVERYONE. Tissaia de Vries killed herself for a reason, you know?
And pls, don't be rude when you don't even understand the novels you've read.

In the books, she isn't a traitor, she's a coward. And she stop to be it in the end of the last book. That's why after, she endure torture 2 times, choosing it the second time by herself to help Ciri (tell me that somebody that go by himself in a torture room isn't a hero, and I will laugh a loooong time)
Triss is in evolution in the books, where Yennefer has already pass that stage when she was a little girl: the childhood of Yennefer gave her her strengh where Triss is still weak (Yennefer commit suicide in his childhood, before her master remade her, and teach her magic).
In Witcher 3 Triss became so strong than Yennefer, and is ready to fight for her love. Personnaly I like her so much than Yennefer.

Yeah I understand that argument but the idea of moral grey points is sort of over looked. I think that is one thing with the games we see, multiple possibilities as the result of choices. I like Triss, sure her hands aren't clean but Yen's and many others are no less dirty. Doing ethically questionable acts for good reasons is sort of a thematic thing

Fans of only TW3 or the Witcher trilogy of games will more than likely choose Triss or think she's the right/best choice for Geralt. However, those of us who have read the Witcher saga novels know that Geralt and Yennefer are meant to be together and that with Geralt no longer having amnesia that it's Yen that he'd pick.
Fans of the games and also like to read owe it to themselves to check out the Witcher novels because they're excellent. Some of the best Dark Fantasy I've had the pleasure of reading, they are fantastic books, you will not be disappointed.
Also, it goes without saying that although Witcher 3 was marketed as 'standalone' and that you didn't need to know the books or play the previous games, once you read the books you'll come to see just how false that statement truly is (IMHO) The games take on a whole other meaning once you understand the full scope, catch the references and the bond with these wonderful characters will be tenfold compared to only have played the games.

I haven't finished the lady of the lake, and I was introduced to all the characters through the games first... but tbh, saying Triss is a traitor is a huge accusation. She sided with the lodge to help Ciri in her own way. And near the end, she felt that what she have done was wrong.
In terms of taking advantage of Geralt, Triss really liked him.. when (one of the mages, I think fringila?) Was revealing what info she got from Geralt (while he was staying in toussiant) .. there was always a reference about the fire in Triss' eyes, cuz she likes him.
Tbh, Triss cares about both Ciri and Geralt.. she also respects yenn

So it's BS, only have Lady of the Lake to go. She didn't actively turn against anyone. The conversation was more Triss being young and under Philippa's (sexual?) control, and that conversation was really the very first time Triss learnt of Philippa's full plans. And it was a conversation, not active actions at all. Triss never had time to fully process that info, nor did she actively agree with Philippa (and I'll completely ignore that Philippa could of just been trying to punk Yen into giving the info she had then and there). In actuality Triss had agreed to Yen's wants but was then cut off and over ruled by Philippa. She was just really wanting to belong to a group and the object of the Lodge was to save Ciri and make her the 13th member. All the real awful crap were Philippa's plans, all of which required Ciri to be someone she never was. Plus, none of the crap Philippa planned/talked about had been agreed to by the Lodge itself. Next interaction Geralt had with the Lodge involved zero plans to kill him, and was just an attempt to find out what the Witcher knew.

... Yeah, she does shit :o Yennefer did also shit. Everbody did some kind of shitty things. That's the cool stuff about those Books & Games. As you said, Triss tried to redeem herself, she changed (in the Games) and grew up.
Like Yennefer also got a little bit more open towards Geralt.

If Triss opposed Phil, she would be in suspicion or even become target, and most of all, lost connection to the Lodge and know nothing about Lodge's plans. Triss in that conversation took neutral approach not to burn bridges and help Geralt by deeds not words, when he would really need it.
