How thoughtful of you to provide the branches for the deer. It is very difficult for them in the winter months. When I was growing up many years ago my parents fed the birds. The area was being developed, so much of the woodlands and wild meadows were being removed, causing the deer to go hungry. My parents decided to put out cracked corn and a salt block for them. The neighbors also gave them apples from their trees. We also put out scraps like potato peelings, trimmings from lettuce and other vegetables for the animals to eat, and every night the animals ate all of the food. My dad took branches he trimmed from the trees, and built a small horse shoe shaped brush pile which gave them protection from the winds. It was there the smaller animals like rabbits built their burrows under the brush inside the ground. Soon there were many animals coming in to eat since there was little food for them, and neighbors began to also pay for cracked corn and we would put it out for the deer and other animals. I always helped my parents feed the birds and the wildlife, and I know the generosity of the food kept many deer and animals alive throughout those very cold winters. What you both are doing is so wonderful for these sweet animals. Thank you for sharing your goodness!

They look so soft and fluffy! I just want to squeeze them LOL. If you could build a snowman and then stick the branches all over it.. lol. A wildlife photographer made a snowman with a carrot nose out in the wild and waited for the deer to find it. He got some great shots of the deer taking the carrot nose to eat.

And as for the deers - the shyness - an idea - no idea if it's realistic: a prepared feeding station protected from snow - which moves a little bit closer to the house every week....
It is illegal where i live to feed deers, but i do it anyway. I used to live in the city before moving away, so to see wildlife roaming on my property comforts me.

The deer are beautiful. And so happy to find the branches you left for them. I leave vines and leaves from my vegetable garden for the ones by my house. They love the sweet potato vines in late summer. 💗

Put out a salt lick, fresh water, and check with a local vet as to the best feed to leave for them. My heart still grieves over the scene in Disney's "Bambi" where the deer are scraping through the snow to find a few blades of grass. Our west lawn attracted deer due to the remaining apples on the trees. Our neighbor had milk cows and a running stream where he put his salt lick for the cows. Deer don't lick. They bite chunks off.

We feed our deer cracked corn and apples in the winter.
