IPS and IDS | Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Prevention Systems

We discuss about Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Prevention Systems in this video.
The intrusion detection systems (IDS) are provided with a copy of the packets travelling through the network. IDS then compares these packets with some predefined signature files containing pattern of potential threats. In case of any match with the pattern, an alarm message can be sent to the Network Administrator.
The Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) not only detects the threats, but they take some action if they find some match between the packets travelling through the network and the signature files installed in them. IPS are used in-line with the traffic.
