As usual, nice review. The first gen Karizma was a SBK for me, as a teenager. This bike, though doesn't look good from any angle, but would sell in large numbers. Seems the most practical- poser for Kids, cruiser for adults. Best thing is the prices are kept unaltered. In my town, ZMA R is priced less than P220 :O .
I don't know why there's so much of negative impression on this upgrade! This bike looks pretty good when you see it on the road! The pictures did deceive me when it was released last october! Give it some time guys, it will definitely grow on you!

Karizma if gone for cosmetic upgrade..the should have change the front shock absorbers ,infact they hve tried to hide it with the fairing... they look really thin nd skinny if compared to "r15,fzs,pulsar 180,220"....nd for that the bumps on the road..make rattle to the arm lyk hell..Though the clipon bar looks cool,which looks bizarre with the combination of the small puny tank on karizma..karizma shoud have upgraded the tank ...The front fairing is jst to make the bike look big.Though this is a good tecnique adopted by Hero to fulfillment of obsession of full faired bike lovers .front huge wind protecter protects the rider from getting wind blast .. One thing I hve noticed that improved is the bigger rear tyre...but that same tyre's are also used in pulsar 180 mrf zapper 120/80×17..which actually skids a lot.. If Hero is facing slags from fans for adopting new engine's they should have done the cosmetic upgrades for good!!! I mean a completely new redesigned chassis,bigger fuel tank,new tecy instrument cluster. @3:29: Dingu needs a fresh set of gloves. He needs to take it easy :P On a serious note, you wouldn't want to get caught cornering on a Karizma. Besides that the bike feels more disfigured than the ZMR and the front fairing is probably the culprit. Too bad the Karizma loyalists will have to skip this one or switch...
I just brought this bike..the bike looks ugly..but in my mind it is beautiful because of that engine it is faster....not smoother than previous version because of the compression ratio..in highways it can reach above 145 kmph FASTER THAN ANY BIKES IN THAT PRICE SEGMENT......

I love it more than anything!! I still remember... my rich friend bought it after we passed 10th std in 2005, He came to my place to show off. He offered me a ride and that was the first time I crossed 100kmph mark.. After requesting dad for years finally when I got campus selected he bought it for me in final year engineering!! I recollected all this after watching this video.. PD.. you guys are the best !!
Usually power drift review sets my heart racing. Even the machine they review sets my heart racing.But not this review, but i think this has more to do with the bike being reviewed, as the new karizma r doesn't impress much. So guys pls stop being hard on PD, as honestly i feel that new karizma doesn't deserve a typical PD review, like that of duke 390. PD review of duke 390 made me buy that bike, and trust me many of my friends bought 390 because of your review(Bajaj ktm owes you money). Thank god this review wasn't good enough for PD standards or retards like me will buy this bike.
Spot on review...I'm impressed...I'll folow powerdrift from now onwards..and as far as the bike is concerned, if you don't wanna spend anything above 1.5 lakhs (CBR 250) then at around 1.1 lakhs this is still a pretty decent Tourer...it will be stupid if people compare it with the P200NS coz that's a naked street fighter...and the R15 is a track performance oriented bike..for comfortable touring, this is still a good option if not the best one...
Itl seriously grow on u... give it some time , the bike is new in styling but definitely not ugly, wen u ride it you feel like your riding a higher end bike, built quality is good, doesnt feel cheap...your knees lock into the bike perfectly...ànd feels crisp

When will Hero, Bajaj etc start making twin cylinder motorbikes, with higher displacements? 400cc, 600cc, 900cc? It's 2014 people. We shouldn't be spending 10 lakhs to own a liter class bike.
indian roads are not ready to accommodate dickhead riders riding Liter class bike....we have had enough of reckless riding in pulsar 220 and apaches for example....so liter class bikes should be out reach of general public who think they own the road just as they own the bike.

Its like 4years i have this bike, and yes it has grown on me, i had to choose between 200ns and this, i took zma and not disappointed. Low services charges fuel economy is good around 35, i also had 1 accident but still decided to repair it and its 90k kM. Problems are rear indicator and mud from rear side. But i do touring with heavy luggage and it kills it top speed is around 135km on gps meter was around 140 so happy with this bike but, now its time to modify it.

Done merely about 178,000+ kms on my Karizma R in just 5 years.. Have a lot of experiences in long tours so I know how well my bike can keep up on highways.. Confused between Nina 300 vs Hyosung GT250r or ktm rc390
RUclips suggestig me this video after 5 years of riding this legend, definately old karizma was charm and king. But after using this one is also another experience few liked how it looks few say its ugly from front but really it grew on me, performance was insane, service charge as lowest, i have used it for 130000kms and its still like I. Am ready to go but body parts in this version are not great yes front fairing is not good. It manages to do around 135 - 140 km/hr. Surprising thing is it manages to go toe to toe with rc 200 and r15 on highway in full throttle.

I've been wanting since long time whether Karizma R is tubeless or not. Powerdrift can you guys please lemme know that...? I've called the customer service and they say since this bike is discontinued, they don't have no information, and none of my friends have this bike, and i have even checked other Karizma R's video on RUclips ,but none aren't replying to my comment... so please do reply.
You can upgrade to tubeless. Orignal tyres were normal tubed tyres. You can upgrade them. Mine already clocked more than 1 lakh kms and still in awesome shape.

Being the biggest two wheeler manufacturer we expect Hero to go further on the next level of Spirited Riding pls do start make some exciting stuff like Hero did by launching CBZ and Karizma but since then there are no efforts has been seen from Hero and that's feel sad on the Other hand Bajaj has gone far forward in making exciting machines like NS 200 Dominar but Hero still not looking to get into this Where as Yamaha, Suzuki KTM are making a name for themselves already in Indian Market, So tough times For Hero is coming if they don't wake up.

I have a 2005 Karizma and even after 12 years a ride on it gives me intense pleasure. Am I going to sell it? No boy, NO! It has a special place in my heart. 🙂
I think if they bring back the old look even with more powerful (read gruff) engine, sales will be back on track. BTW zma can do much more than 100kmph continuously. I have held onto 115-120kmph (around 8k rpm) on several stretches. Will keep munching miles with no complaints. I think you know that very well :) Haven't tried such speeds on the newer ones though.
Most west product by hero motocorp.it is only a set of fiber which add on over one which makes its so weak and vibrate lots.chain are also makes lot of noise.

The earlier version of Karizma was much better in looks, the new one looks like they picked up bits and pieces from here and there and launched it just for the name sake. Not even grabbing the attention as ZMR did. They could have done much better.
Its pure Buell DNA !!! Its not just about looks !!! Its about performance, rideability, relialibility,.... I'm also not too satisfied about looks of this byk... But still its a good package... Its a byk to live with... The pleasure of riding a KARIZMA is like no other Indian bikes... Its a byk for those who wants to be different from others.... What good is it when a byk is just about looks and nothin else or a byk which is not reliable for long term use ???
May be Hero should consider retiring Karizma and replace it with HX250, or rename the HX as Karizma, one way or the other this model, as Sagar said and I quote "Its a far cry from the earlier Karizma"! Its bit of a disappointment rather than a revelation.

i have 2011 Karizma R....i loved it performance wise, lookwise n refinement wise....but was very unhappy wid the fit n finish n i had to put lot of money for body parts lyk fairings n all....so 3-4 months ago i askd my service centre guy which bike shud i go for....as i really dont lyk pulsers...n ktm was out of picture with its 1.5 L price tag.....so he asked me to wait for new karizma R.....i google its images....and yaaaaaaaaaak....was my 1st reaction.....its really looks shitty.... old karizma R still way gud in looks dept thn new karizma R....neither it has grown performance wise....19.2 bhp in 223 cc motor??? bullshit....evn p200ns hv gud 23.5 bhp... i give middle finger 4 this piece of crap evn aftr being die hard karima (old) fan....
A lot of negative feedback on this bike it seems, but lets think about it. Its VERY inexpensive and I have a feeling that they are just trying to sell a few more over the next 2 years or so, trying to catch the "bargain" buyer. Two things really stand out to me that make this bike look kind of strange though, the windscreen is a "Zero G" style "bubble" windscreen to throw the airflow over the head of a rider that isn't hardened to windblast. (not much of a wind anyway at those slow speeds so I don't understand it) With a flatter aftermarket windscreen, that nose would have a much racier profile and better looks. Another strange thing is that grill on the side the bike near the rear tire.. looks to be some kind of saddle-bag mount. Get rid of that grill and drop some of the stock bullshit off of this bike it would trim down kind of nice for the price range. I actually like the EBR nose.. its the windscreen that is messing up the looks, its too high... too "Sport-Tour" for me, but that's what this bike is anyway.. its small displacement, low-cost SPORT TOUR... something just any random guy rides to work on or picks up his girl with. Enthusiast riders are going to be going for the HX250 anyway.
do you know what is the price of the bike. just 90k on road. even the suzuki gixxer is more expensive than the karizma. n your tyres n brakes you were talking about,you will have to pay for them. sometimes uselessly .. ya i do admit it lacks a rear disk brake but other than thats its the best deal ..
Bought the first version Karizma from a friend of mine, whom doesn't care more on performance. I love to make hard revs. But I almost broke it's engine. Time to upgrade to higher cubic capacitys I guess.
I can hear the cracky noise from the engine. Which was stable before reving it hard on short trips. But making it to run over the 8500 rpm mark which gives the peak torque, makes the engine making rattle noise. And another problem with the bike on my opinion is the smell of the gasoline leaks on owing to the prior problem. The smell was noticable.
Yes they told it is a major problem and needs a heavy replacement of several engine parts. So waiting for parts to arrive. Meanwhile will enjoy riding my FZ-S.
Still a proud owner of old 2011 model Karizma R .. The new one is really disappointing. I think Honda should take over the rights of Karizma from Hero.. and bring it again with new updates of today's times..

completely agree with you... long rides on this are pleasant and you can do 80-90kmph continuosly on highways... no vibes and stable at those speeds

When will Hero, Bajaj etc start making twin cylinder motorbikes, with higher displacements? 400cc, 600cc, 900cc? It's 2014 people. We shouldn't be spending 10 lakhs to own a liter class bike.
indian roads are not ready to accommodate dickhead riders riding Liter class bike....we have had enough of reckless riding in pulsar 220 and apaches for example....so liter class bikes should be out reach of general public who think they own the road just as they own the bike.
I couldnt understand why so many ppl are complng abt the luks of the bike.. yes itz not so pretty wen compd to 2008 model ,agreed..but comparing thz one wth 2003 model !!! I think itz ridiculousss.. 2003 model was best lukng machine of tat age,no need to drag it in this modern era wch witnessed naked concept to full faired one.. Its like 4years i have this bike, and yes it has grown on me, i had to choose between 200ns and this, i took zma and not disappointed. Low services charges fuel economy is good around 35, i also had 1 accident but still decided to repair it and its 90k kM. Problems are rear indicator and mud from rear side. But i do touring with heavy luggage and it kills it top speed is around 135km on gps meter was around 140 so happy with this bike but, now its time to modify it.

RUclips suggestig me this video after 5 years of riding this legend, definately old karizma was charm and king. But after using this one is also another experience few liked how it looks few say its ugly from front but really it grew on me, performance was insane, service charge as lowest, i have used it for 130000kms and its still like I. Am ready to go but body parts in this version are not great yes front fairing is not good. It manages to do around 135 - 140 km/hr. Surprising thing is it manages to go toe to toe with rc 200 and r15 on highway in full throttle.

I've been wanting since long time whether Karizma R is tubeless or not. Powerdrift can you guys please lemme know that...? I've called the customer service and they say since this bike is discontinued, they don't have no information, and none of my friends have this bike, and i have even checked other Karizma R's video on RUclips ,but none aren't replying to my comment... so please do reply.

You can upgrade to tubeless. Orignal tyres were normal tubed tyres. You can upgrade them. Mine already clocked more than 1 lakh kms and still in awesome shape.

It does 100kph! That must have been a hell of a down hill run with one hell of a strong tail wind and a slip stream behind something big!
Being the biggest two wheeler manufacturer we expect Hero to go further on the next level of Spirited Riding pls do start make some exciting stuff like Hero did by launching CBZ and Karizma but since then there are no efforts has been seen from Hero and that's feel sad on the Other hand Bajaj has gone far forward in making exciting machines like NS 200 Dominar but Hero still not looking to get into this Where as Yamaha, Suzuki KTM are making a name for themselves already in Indian Market, So tough times For Hero is coming if they don't wake up.
I would still buy a 3rd hand karizma... not that i dont like hero has done to the karizma... but it aint growing in me.... well cut video... nice review... flying off the road... hoo thats a first...hats off guys...

I have a 2005 Karizma and even after 12 years a ride on it gives me intense pleasure. Am I going to sell it? No boy, NO! It has a special place in my heart. 🙂
I think if they bring back the old look even with more powerful (read gruff) engine, sales will be back on track. BTW zma can do much more than 100kmph continuously. I have held onto 115-120kmph (around 8k rpm) on several stretches. Will keep munching miles with no complaints. I think you know that very well :) Haven't tried such speeds on the newer ones though.

The earlier version of Karizma was much better in looks, the new one looks like they picked up bits and pieces from here and there and launched it just for the name sake.
Not even grabbing the attention as ZMR did. They could have done much better.
With the upgrade in power and torque, it would be really interesting to see where the Karizma stands w.r.t the 220F

Meanwhile, this review was good.
May be Hero should consider retiring Karizma and replace it with HX250, or rename the HX as Karizma, one way or the other this model, as Sagar said and I quote "Its a far cry from the earlier Karizma"! Its bit of a disappointment rather than a revelation.

i have 2011 Karizma R....i loved it performance wise, lookwise n refinement wise....but was very unhappy wid the fit n finish n i had to put lot of money for body parts lyk fairings n all....so 3-4 months ago i askd my service centre guy which bike shud i go for....as i really dont lyk pulsers...n ktm was out of picture with its 1.5 L price tag.....so he asked me to wait for new karizma R.....i google its images....and

A lot of negative feedback on this bike it seems, but lets think about it. Its VERY inexpensive and I have a feeling that they are just trying to sell a few more over the next 2 years or so, trying to catch the "bargain" buyer. Two things really stand out to me that make this bike look kind of strange though, the windscreen is a "Zero G" style "bubble" windscreen to throw the airflow over the head of a rider that isn't hardened to windblast. (not much of a wind anyway at those slow speeds so I don't understand it) With a flatter aftermarket windscreen, that nose would have a much racier profile and better looks. Another strange thing is that grill on the side the bike near the rear tire.. looks to be some kind of saddle-bag mount. Get rid of that grill and drop some of the stock bullshit off of this bike it would trim down kind of nice for the price range. I actually like the EBR nose.. its the windscreen that is messing up the looks, its too high... too "Sport-Tour" for me, but that's what this bike is anyway.. its small displacement, low-cost SPORT TOUR... something just any random guy rides to work on or picks up his girl with. Enthusiast riders are going to be going for the HX250 anyway.

In fact a lot of Team PD members have had great memories with the Karizma :)

do you know what is the price of the bike. just 90k on road. even the suzuki gixxer is more expensive than the karizma. n your tyres n brakes you were talking about,you will have to pay for them. sometimes uselessly .. ya i do admit it lacks a rear disk brake but other than thats its the best deal ..
Bought the first version Karizma from a friend of mine, whom doesn't care more on performance. I love to make hard revs. But I almost broke it's engine. Time to upgrade to higher cubic capacitys I guess.

I can hear the cracky noise from the engine. Which was stable before reving it hard on short trips. But making it to run over the 8500 rpm mark which gives the peak torque, makes the engine making rattle noise. And another problem with the bike on my opinion is the smell of the gasoline leaks on owing to the prior problem. The smell was noticable.

Yes they told it is a major problem and needs a heavy replacement of several engine parts. So waiting for parts to arrive. Meanwhile will enjoy riding my FZ-S.
