Yeah right. It has access to contacts of all users. It searches the contact list of other users and then displays the name of an unknown number who has never created an account on Truecaller.
I’m stunned how TG has changed. Few years back I saw his video in which he himself told that TureCaller uploads your contacts and is unsafe. Now he’s telling just pros. The video certainly is sponsored.

Being a s/w engineer I always try to explain people how bad and user dependent true caller is. It provides no privacy, collects all your data by forcing you to allow permissions and monitor user call logs.
#India definitely needs some strict cyber policies for enhancing users privacy.

What happened to True Caller all of a sudden? All reviewers are giving Sponsored videos. I think true caller makes the primary function - the Calling facility- a little bit difficult and annoying. True that it helps to identify spammers. But it make the process very difficult. Especially in Redmi Phones. You can see the phone is ringing, but you can't take the call. I think many are uninstalling TC.

True caller shows the name of a contact which other people have saved as in their phonebook. This is possible only when our contact list is uploaded on their server to figure out which number is saved with which name. This is how it’s able to show the name of a person who never installed Truecaller in his/her mobile.

If a contact is not saved in my contact list but tht no. is saved with diff names in diff persons and all are using true caller..so which name would appear in my screen if phone call comes from tht no...how true caller select which name to show to person having no. not saved in his contact list..whether it will show on the basis of jisne sabse pehli baar jis naam se save kiya tha wohi name show karega..? I hv seen many times..kiski mera naam kuch aur dikhata hai kisi ko kuch aur..

Sir my mom have a keypad phone. She never uses trucaller and no Truecaller account is created using this sim. I saved her number as "YMummy". Whenever anyone calls the number in Truecaller it is mentioned that "YMummy". How is this possible if Truecaller doesn't uses personal information. It is possible because I use Truecaller and Truecaller has access to my contacts.

Thanks for the video. But I think couple of things are bit doubtful which you've mentioned in the video. Truecaller must need to get the contacts on the server or at least have some distributed search engine(which is highly rare). Let me explain you why based on what I've experience (Others can also add your experiences if they align with mine)
1. You said truecaller only shows names the user have added as a username in their truecaller app. I know lots of aged people who never installed truecaller, some don't even have smartphone (which outruns the case of having Truecaller). When these people call someone who hasn't saved their contact, it shows something on their like Chandu Chacha, Guddu Uncle like genuine names. Can you explain how this can be achieved without having them on either central DB on TrueCaller server?
2. I had saved one of my friends contact (secondory jio number) as "ABC Jio Jeee Bharke" which I am 100 percent sure that he hasn't used as a username. When we checked his number on third friends Truecaller it said "ABC Jio Jeee Bharke". This is not possible unless they have my contacts somewhere centrally.
Although I don't have rigid prooof to support my second point. But I am pretty much sure that almost all of you would have come acrosss point one.

if you really value your privacy its better to avoid truecaller if possible
(and also the Indian govt had flagged it for leaking data as well)

What about the nick name like "Puja Didi" "Raja Bhaiya" etc which are shown by true caller for an unknown number? If Truecaller is not reading our contact details from where it gets those names?

Puja didi or raja bhaiya names might have been updated by users who have had calls with those numbers. For example if i get a call from puja didi and i havent saved the number on my mobile, i will update truecaller as puja didi and then truecaller will show the number as puja didi to everyone.

Sorry Gaurav ji, I cannot agree with the "contacts not uploaded" thing. It has happened multiple times that I receive call from an UNKNOWN number and found truecaller showing names "Mohit Sir E.Rly" or "Sonu Flipkart Delivery". My father doesn't use truecaller, and when searched his name appears as "Preetam's Father". These things are only possible when other users' phonebook data is uploaded to a central location, and Truecaller dynamically fetching the info when the call comes.
Not necessarily that's its a bad or unsafe thing, but let's not mislead users by saying no phonebook data gets uploaded to truecaller's server.
