Plus, Bruce Dickinson is easily the Most Powerful/Unique Frontman in the history of any kind of music, Guy is the closest thing to a real life Jedi, as he’s literally a Master Swordsman ( world class fencer England’s team), Expert Pilot ( Ed Force One and all the crazy planes he’s tested and flown all over the world), plus He can hypnotize thousands of people at the same time…., Ridiculous Talent!!!, not mentioning the “flying an endangered species back home” , and “ taking his band ( Scream for Me Sarajevo ) to a war zone, lift spirits during Serbian/ Croatian conflict “…., Sorry Freddie Mercury…., Bruce all the way…..

Bruce is great! No question. But..
In his own opinion he wolud never be as good as Dio in singing and also as a wonderful human being as Dio. He told this in one interview back in a day.

The “Cowboy Hat” guy is Roy Z, guitarist, co-writer, and producer on three of the best metal albums I’ve ever heard: Bruce’s “Accident of Birth”, “Tyranny of Souls”, and the greatest metal album of the 1990s, “Chemical Wedding”. He’s more than passable-Bruce is on record stating that Roy Z is as good a guitarist as anyone he’s ever played with. And he’s played with Paul Samson, Dave Murray, and Adrian Smith.
If Roy Z was Maiden’s producer instead of the pitiful Kevin Shirley, ALL of their post-90s albums would be 5X better than they are.

From what I’ve read it’s not JUST about leaving Maiden, it’s about all the shit that happens in life and the fears that come from horrible experiences and learning to over come that. Dragon tears in mythology have been things of healing.

Second listen challenge. Let me tell you what this song is about, and then listen to it again. It hits even harder when you know!
Bruce in the late 90's wanted to go his own way, and try different genres of music. But, the band was still thriving. He was scared to leave the security of the band. He had anxiety because he really wanted out, but couldn't find the courage to make the move. Finally, he had to just put himself at risk, and just jump. He left the band, tried a couple of different sounds, and then found the best metal sound since Maiden when he teamed up with former member Adrian Smith, and they released Accident of Birth. In the song. Iron Maiden is the Dragon.
HA! I just heard you mention the theme of the song AFTER I typed everything. And BTW, he did do a side project while still in the band. Tattooed Millionaire.
There were creative differences in the band too. Steve Harris wanted to get back to their tried and true roots. Bruce wanted to explore a more "alternative" sound.
