Racism literally means judging someone based on the color of their skin or their heritage and culture. Never does it say that it’s white people hating others. This way of thinking literally only hurts people and it is very toxic.
it's more so that when black people are "racist" (which really can't happen if you understand black american history deeply) it literally doesn't affect anyone, at least to the degree compared to when white people are. There's just a lot of things that go into it than it seems so I get why it doesn't make sense to most people. Typically racism from White people are far more oppressive than other forms of racism from other races, in America at least , history shows that no matter how much you try to ignore it. I won't assume your race but if you are indeed white I believe you should take a step back and really think about this.
Dont forget blaming anyone who weren’t alive during the start of the Islamic revolution in Iran and had nothing to do with it whatsoever despite living overseas 😂😂 I get this sh*t alot 🤦♀️
Fr this (the message the show is sending I mean) doesn’t help the issue at all, I got blamed for Pearl Harbor as a third grader in class because my mom is a Japanese immigrant, I got bullied, and that messed me up for literal years. The fact that blaming literal children for things they had nothing to do with because of their race/ethnicity is being encouraged in this show is just wrong imo :(
@@Namiasister Unfortunately kids are fucking assholes. And the "adult" writers that penned this are somehow worse. I wonder if they'd feel okay being blamed for every rape and murder an ancestor of theirs did.

Even as a kid I always felt confused by the Third Story episode and Penny’s conversation with Dijonnay: one moment she’s saying “you’re always doing this and I’m not going to take it anymore” but she ended it by saying “I trust you to be the person I can’t trust” … even when I was a kid I thought that was an awful lesson 😒😒😒
*"Growing up"* to me- means realizing that Penny's entire circle of friends are trash, and she really was right to switch up on them when she became famous... *_and should've kept the energy._*
Right? That definition is so iffy too. Like if you’re a manager then you have power over employees. To say you are black and can’t be racist may mean that you can mistreat your employees based off race . That’s awful
“Power” is such a stupid term to throw in there. What *is* power? Money? Having a lot of supporters with the same mindset as you? Influence? A gun? A better word to use would’ve been “hate”, because rac*sts tend to.. yknow, hate a specific group of people for weird reasons.
@@flames1752 Definitely. And a homeless guy may have virtually no political power, but if he lurches at you on the street and his stench-covered body is physically threatening you, he has power in that situation.

World has suffered too much prolonged by somn who claims to "fix" it, done all in the name for power. Im not gonna let her baggage trauma instead let her start a life a new, one where she wont involve herself with these cult of excusers.
You’re a good sister, if anything let her see the OG series (supervised), because sure the main friend group was toxic back then but they had likeable moments plus the OG had Sticky
Yep. I would not watch the reboot series, it has some bad episodes such as that one time Penny was locked out on purpose, and that one episode of colorism about only dating white girls. I would also not watch the original series as I analyzed that Penny has terrible friends. The lesson in this case is Nostalgia doesn't sell...
Im indigenous alaska native. I've had a counseler who was also native try telling me that I have "ancestral trauma" or something like that. And I asked why and he told me "because our ancestors were treated terrible in this country" (which is true) but i asked him "how am i traumatized....non of this happened to me" and he was dumbfounded. Looked at me Like I asked the dumbest question ever.
Same here, we mexicans (and latinos for the most part) are offsprings of native americans. Did spain did alot of Bad things to our ancestral tribes? Yes Do I hate spainiards for that? No. Why? Cause That happen 500 - 200 years ago, we got our independence and that's enough. Today our countries are facing other challenges, we shouldn't forget what happen but we shouldn't held grudges after our battles were over.
Weren't are all the episodes like that? If anything her parents are more fked up, Trudy locking her daughter outside at night as a punishment and the dad too scared to help
Gotta love how they make these sweeping statements about racism and how black people can’t be racist and how all white people have privilege that makes them worse, and yet Zoey, the token white girl, is consistently the only nice person in Penny’s group. Like, I’m not the only one who see’s that’s weird, right?

@@dollyday83 it really does make it worse like that seems like a problem for people that have just started dating not being married for years with a kid like tf..
"racism is prejudice plus power" Penny was just talking to an Asian, a race that also at one point didn't have power and had prejudice against them. Every race has faced some kind of prejudice and lack of power. That's why anyone can be racist regardless of race. Idk how this is still a discussion in 2024 but I guess people can be stupid in any year.
With all the changes this show makes to attempt to be more "progressive," why do they still try to convince us that Penny and Dijonay are besties despite all the times Dijonay has ever betrayed Penny or taken advantage of her kindness. What's the message they're trying to show with that? That you should let your best friend walk all over you for the sake of keeping a world record for BFFs for life? That true friends will always have your back no matter how many times you stab them in their backs? What kind of message is that?
Not to mention how the show treats the Chang triplets. If they actually cared about minorities, the episode would’ve actually framed Penny as being in the wrong for how she treated one of the girls.
I like to assume Thr Writers are trying to portrait Penny as either mentally or emotionally messed up, and that's why she doesn't react to other people's bull crap, not even her own family.
@@misterOrca4 Seriously tho, there's an episode where her parents LOCK HER OUT OF THE HOUSE AT NIGHT because she deliberately skipped curfew. You know how dangerous it is leaving a child outside ALONE AT NIGHT? How does this show expect its audience to take their messages about social issues seriously when half the characters are delusional enough to lock their kid outside alone at night to prove a point about responsibility?
@bloodymary9404 I think the original series had some good episodes, but the most prominent thing I really remember is that Penny is facing a problem and turns to her friends to help her through her trouble. They bail on her, forcing her to handle it herself. Then when the problem is resolved, they come back like they were always there for her. This is the best show to demonstrate exactly what a "fair weather friend" is.
I wouldn't say it scraped the bottom of the barrel, moreso it dug beyond that, found ANOTHER barrel, dug beyond THAT, and didn't stop until it reached the Earth's core.
Racism as a word only works because of its specific accuracy of the act it describes, change the meaning and people won’t care. If suddenly an entire group of people can’t be racist by the new definition then what’s keeping them from acting racist by the old one?
@@Truffs_Stuffyeah like, WHY though? What exactly are we trying to get away with by changing the meaning of the definition? There’s that saying that “hurt people hurt people”. On one hand, you would think a group that knows what it feels like to be discriminated against, left out, or made fun of and bullied for their race or cultural distinctions would never want anyone else to hurt that way or experience what they had been through…but I sadly think the “hurt people hurt people” fact applies here a lot too for those so badly wanting to change the definition. Using the excuse of “well I had it a lot worse so who cares how you feel you’ll never fully know pain unless you went through what I did” is also the exact same excuse a partner in an abusive relationship or an abused child would hear as an excuse from their abusive partner or parent who had once been abused themselves. They use their trauma and abuse they experienced in the past to justify treating others badly. It’s ultimately just an deflective excuse to block out any criticism or hold their harmful actions against another accountable. An excuse to avoid growing as a person and growing beyond your own pain to be be the better person than the people who hurt you.
@@Reddyicecream yeah because he's a genuine character who is a radical, Maya is just radical ideology that they tried to write a paper thin character around
She really brings nothing to the group. She's just as mean and petty as Penny's other "friends" and they never bring up that her one father is a white cop and her other father is a wealthy banker. Maya is black, yes, but she also comes from a place of extreme privilege. I wish the show would have at least acknowledged that a little
There IS a way to address the issue with kids, but... its not this. Ignoring history entirely and feeding a sanitized version to children will never go well, but this is the other extreme and without actual context, its... kinda useless
Movies like Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Sound of Music, and Captain Planet and Histeria for shows, openly show or talk about N*zis, so that's not much weirder. But those were for actual historical purposes. the Triple K Cult in this is for propaganda purposes only
I was actually in a school debate and my opponent (a black lady) actually used the same argument about slavery and that America was the worst slave drivers. I then explained how the Muslims treated slaves, and that states like Yemen and Oman had slaves into the 1960's and 70's. For the sack of this comment section I won't talk about it but finding the information isn't very difficult.
Yup! Sadly, slavery has existed and continues to exist everywhere. The Transatlantic slave trade was *one of* the biggest-scale slave trades in human history - and that absolutely deserves recognition - but we don't need to ignore the other ones or make it a simple pantomime version of a racial issue (black sovereign kingdoms directly profited from selling POWs 😬) to recognise how insanely cruel it was. It's the same as ever: powerful party (African sellers, then Euro/American traders) takes advantage of less powerful party (African POWs/callously discarded serfs).
@@Truffs_Stuff The thing that makes slavery in the US so different, is the level of what went into it to defend it The racism (decades worth of “scientific studies” and religious propaganda to try and prove that Africans were biologically less intelligent, more savage, malleable, and in need of saving and guidance from white people An ideology that continues to leak into present day Slavery from the past tended to be the result of winning wars or religious conversion Which was still fucked trust But the roots of slavery and even African apartheid and their lasting effects in and against the black community Is probably what could lead someone to that conclusion They determined we were subhuman to justify what they were doing
@@AnInkStick yes! issue is a lot of people who speak of past tragedies such as slavery and how they deserve reparation fail to realise that modern slavery is very much alive and thriving yet you don't hear those same people demonstrating, protesting or demanding reparations for the millions of people currently enslaved over the world with the biggest ethnic group being enslaved in modern times being Asian. Those of us in first world countries are extremely privileged regardless of our skin tone or ethnic group and on the topic of racism, I do believe racism can still be very rife in certain places in fact I've witnessed it first-hand but we also have the freedom of being able to speak up about discrimination and poor treatment, modern day slaves cant.
The show's not irredeemable. If on the final episode Penny snaps back into being a sane character like she was in the original show beats the ever living hell out of Maya and then flips all of her friends off because they've always been the most toxic supporting cast you could dream of, and then goes off to college to start a new life away from all these awful ass people. Then the show would get a pass in my eyes
"And you know what Maya? We were wrong: black people CAN be racist and you're living proof of that fact. I never liked it when shows feel the need to always remind you of a character's race. Being Mexican, it gives me the creeps how much they want me to think that I'm oppressed in society. Anyways, great video! The edits gave me some laughs, and the audio is perfect!
I know exactly what you mean! Feels a bit fetishy sometimes - like a certain type of person gets off on imagining your misery and whiteknighting on your behalf, eugh 🥲 Aaaa thank you, that's very kind haha! Always glad to hear someone's had a lil fun watching my nonsense 😎
I have something similar, if completely different at the same time. I'm Irish and I have to keep reminding people that my ancestors (both distant and recent) have been racially abused.
Yeah. I'm black, and it feels uncomfortable when shows and people are like, "You're oppressed". Some are, especially in other countries, but in most of America, we're not anymore. They always want to make it about slavery in the US all while forgetting it was worse in other countries, but I guess pointing that out is "racist". Also, "black people can't be racist" is stupid. They have been to everyone else, even other black people. Many were even racist towards me for being a Muslim and tried to say I'm "not black", yet, "Oh, cuz they're black" it's not racist, I'M BLACK AND THEY ARE BEING RACIST TOWARDS ME. You see how stupid this whole victimization is? We don't live in the 1800s. It's 2024, and we're in the 21st century. They need to stop being delusional and narcissistic and do something to help people in need within the US and other countries when they have that opportunity.
Okay, it’s one thing talk about politics or tough topics in a kids show, but to spread misinformation and present one sided arguments is unacceptable. I mean, look at Static Shock. Sure it wasn’t perfect, but it was clever with how they implemented the harsh topics and was nuanced with its arguments.
Agreed! I wouldn't have a problem with the topics being raised if they were presented with no misinformation and in an age-appropriate, sensitive way. The reboot missed the memo a bit there 🙃
@@Truffs_Stuff How is it that The Fresh Prince of Bel-air, a show from the 80s and which was quite wacky, presented these topics in a nuanced and mature way that felt thought out. The problem is that even if you take all the race elements out, this show is mean. It is a mean show about mean people. Penny is one of the only not terrible people on the show, and yet the entire show revolves around just pushing her down and being cruel to her
Beyond the critical theory nonsense, I was horrified by some quotes from Dijonay you highlighted. I've seen a handful of the episodes prior to the reboot, and barely remember it. I would never show this to kids because I would not want them to think it's ok for a friend to treat them that way. I feel like the racism stuff is going to go over a lot of kid's heads anyway, so the toxicity concerns me more.
They could've done a plot in this episode about how you can't force friends to honour your relationship the way *you* want to (like through this anniversary thing), but you can find a nice middle ground like making the effort to get a coffee together from time to time. But instead we got this toxic behaviour 😭
@@Truffs_Stuff Absolutely! Penny needs some counseling, and better friends. But yeah both friends should make some kind of effort and communicate to each other.
So American television thinks this ok but Bluey episodes that discuss pregnancy/asking where babies come from is blasphemy? As an American all I have to say is smh
The difference is that Bluey was made for younger kids. This is allegedly made for older kids, though I have a sneaking suspicion that the creators made it for themselves.
man i'm so sad this show turned out like this. i'm a white european and i've never heard about the old cartoon growing up, i got interested in this one because of the pretty artstyle and i feel like a lot of kids might too, and it's a shame they keep putting toxic messages in. it would've been a great way to educate children
Can we also just talk about how awful everyone treats Zoey? I haven’t watched the show (I refuse to) but from the clips I’ve seen, they treat her like she’s stupid. Even in the whole song you mentioned they don’t let her speak. She’s quiet the whole time, like she isn’t allowed to speak because of her skin color. That’s not even getting into the colorism episode.
The writers came up with some plot reason (she's lost her voice this episode) for why she couldn't take part in the song towards the end here, but you as a watcher know why they did that haha
The worst part is now they have portrayed debates, basically the biggest sophist wins. Doesn't matter the quality of your argument, its about doing it in a catchy way. At least they are honest about using brain washing tactics
Honestly never understood the whole Reparations thing. Why should I have to pay for something my forefathers did? Did I have slaves? No. Did I discriminate someone based on color intentionally? No. Did I ever make someone sit on the back of the bus? No never once, I don't even drive a bus. We shouldn't let the sins of the father affect a innocent person.
You should only really have to do it if your ancestors actually are proven to, and your family is STILL benefitting from it. So a rich person, which I feel like if you're NOT rich, most people would understand there's not much you can do. I think a good middle ground is like baking some cookies or something LIKE that just a really nice wholesome gesture from the heart yk. Bc the way i see it, as long as you still feel empathy towards the person who descended from those slaves, EMPATHY and not guilt, you've done nothing wrong. HOWEVER, I think as soon as you start playing the victim or even just act apathetic and careless about it entirely instead of kind, that's when you officially HAVE done something wrong. But only to the extent of being a massive dickhead, not evil like I think people would say about your theoretical ancestors
@@totallytravicious Nah I don’t think that makes sense. Sure if I had a company or something built off slaves but having to give up my own money? Fuck that.

A fellow former house cleaner! Also, I read the book and it’s nuts. The author routinely makes white women cry in her-incredibly expensive-DEI training sessions and thinks that black men who defend their sobbing white female coworkers are doing so out of “internalized racism” or possibly sexism. I work for kids at an at risk center, and I accidentally opened up a can of worms by jokingly calling her racist for always trying to race her friends in the pool. She was like '...uh... whats that? Some people way back when used to think that the color of skin meant that I was cooler than you, or that you were cooler than me." Her reply was great. "But you are so cool!" "And I think you're really cool too, which is clearly why racism is stupid." "Yuh-huh." "Yep." And i feel that this conversation alone did more for this kid than this episode ever could. One more point of pride for me, i guess 😅
Tbh I was never a fan of this show or the other show. Man, I really feel that the whole "racism" bit in this episode is out of the blue really. If I'm not mistaken, this is the FIRST episode where we see the triplets again in this reboot/revival. Until this episode, the only idea of the "Chang Triplets" that we have its just them in the og series where they where a bunch of stereotypical academically smart kids that did really good in school and sport. They ARE smart, we know that much. Then enter this episode and it seems the the argument that Penny used is supposed to be "inviting any of the chang triplets to the group cus they are Asian, so they are smart" wtf??? And nobody really corrects said statement? At most Maya tries correct it as Penny just being a jerk, not racist, which still doesn't erase the ridiculousness of the argument. Obviously, everything points out at the fact that the Triplets in this new series aren't supposed to he these smart-ass kids they were in the og series. Billy is more laid-back, and Debbie seems to not want to be seen as "a smart kid" anymore. But honestly it still baffles me that this scene tries to paint it as if Penny just wanted them on the team cus they were asian, and not because they LITERALLY were the smartest kids in the og series that we knew.
2:39 she should lose the point for just straight up lieing. Unless i misheard her. We did pay reoperations. Do you know how many young men died in the civil war? 620,000. 620,000 thousand men in 4 years. for context, a war that was happening in New Zealand at roughly the same time that also lasted 4 years , the New Zealand War, killed 2600. The Boshin war in Japan which lasted a year killed 8200, even the Six Years War only killed 20,000 and that was considered incredibly deadly. It's not nearly as much as the slaves who died over the 100 years before hand, but to say we haven't paid is disingenuous at best.
They shouldn't have reboot this in the first place, rebooting a long dead series that was cancelled prematurely is a double edge sword. There's always a risk, you don't know if its a good or bad.
Ahhh, Reperations. People who’ve never been slaves demanding money from people who’ve never owned slaves. I’m probably missing a lot of details and specific circumstances but that’s what it sounds like to me.
they’re demanding money from the government. a body that represents more than individuals and is directly responsible for slavery in America. no black person alive today have been slaves, but many have but adversely affected by slavery. there are families who are wealthy today bc they have generational wealth that has only accumulated over the span of generations, the government has facilitated programs including slavery that have systematically done damage to black families over the course of generations while building up others.
Black people owned slaves. African kings also sold their own people into slavery too in the trans atlantic slave trade. So if you want reparations, go back to Gahna and go bother whatever royal family is left there. They're the ones who sold the first black slaves anyway
People truly do not understand why they're trying to make "X can't be racist to Y because of Z" because they know they're racist, and they'll be called racist, but they want the word "racist" and "racism" to be "theirs". By changing the definition they can call this to anyone they want and not be expected to be challenged for it. This goes back to What happened in the Soviet Union. Read it up to see what I mean.

The kinda things where the Media would link in to say "yeah that's right" but they always kinda over shoot that Bar and say something that Comes off as aggressive and (not a pun) more Black and white than the actual complicated Problem so in the end they just sink in the mud and keep talking themselves deeper
I know this is a strange comparison, but this show is like Mr Birchum, but instead of pandering to people like me, it panders to people on the left instead.
Honestly, as terrible as Mr. Birchum actually is, Proud Family annoys me far more. Why? Because it is so mean! Take out all the politics and discussions on race and it is still a mean, cruel show.

Her overcrowded family and so he's just probably very lonely. I never really like this friend group. It always felt fake
I always love it when a black woman does ancestry and finds out she has white in her. They are confused because they say they are descendants from enslaved Africans. Turns out their ancestors in Africa was part of the Barbary Pirates. The Barbary Pirates kidnapped white working-class women and took them back to Africa. Well let's say they pooled their genetic makeup against their will. The first war the USA declared as nation. Was against the Barbary Pirates to end this enslavement. No CARTOON on that huh!!!!

Tbf I'm white, but reperations seem weird to me. We absolutely should acknowledge our past but reperations punish descendants who did nothing and helps descendants who didnt go through that. I'm not going to pay a wealthy Black person money because of atrocities that happened to others, and i want to pay for poor Black people by helping the poor with taxes (which is a lot of Black people.) Also, Black people suffered a LOT and still do in society! But why is it only Black people who get reperations? What about the mentally ill who were treated like animals, caged up, killed, and still have oppression? What about the Jews and Asians and disabled and descendants of veterans who were lied to by the military and forced into things they would've never done? What about the Muslims who had to live in fear of hatred after 9/11? What about the Native Americans who i can't even fully get into how much their persecution built America? What about the Tutsis in Rwanda?

9:40 is this not just a colorblind way of looking at it? When a black person does something racist, the show's logic is to remove race from the equation and boil it down to "just being a jerk"? Colorblind racism is a form of racism. It's ignoring race entirely so that you dont have to label racism as racism.
Yeah as a huge fan of The Proud Family, I noticed that this season of the reboot is a lot more in your face about racism. I like the reboot, but I prefer the original series, the subjects it talked about felt more natural
The jaw drop I had at Penny yelling 'BLACK PEOPLE CAN'T BE RACIST'- THE GALL, THE AUDACITY OF THIS SHOW my lord. Black people are *people*. Capable of the same hatred of those different from them as any other race is. It ain't that hard to understand. And a very dangerous message to send to kids. Next they'll say that if you're rightfully upset at someone who happens to be black/brown, you're racist. I'm all for educating kids on the reality, history, and culture for black people, especially since the American school system ain't gonna do it, encourage it even! But this just ain't it.
I used to like the show up until that episode which just made me feel bad about myself as I’m Mexican American, but I’m pale as a ghost so I look like an average American (minus the blue eyes, and blonde hair) so it’s usually a surprise when people find out I’m from Spanish descent. Now I only have one American relative that bring my great, great, great grandpa who married my Mexican great, great, great grandmother, but at the time of watching this episode I didn’t know that and felt ashamed that I came from a slave owner that might have owned some of my Mexican slave relatives, but after finding that isn’t true I was relieved, but I’m still pissed off from the show about it. Yes I do have Mexican relatives that were slaves, but I don’t make excuses about it when I’m trying to win an argument I just honestly hope the show gets better
I’ll pay reparations to someone if I actually wronged them. However, I never enslaved anyone or fucked up someone’s life for any reason, especially not their race. I’m not paying a dime of reparations to anyone. It’s no different than people using the Bible to guilt everyone with “original sin.” I didn’t do it, I’m not paying for it. That’s all.
@@CAT-2323 but then you aren’t directly paying for anything. Also we were literally promised reparations that we never got. I don’t personally even believe in like “everyone gets a check!” Based reparations. But I do think something should be done about the multiple black communities that were destroyed just to keep us down.
This show had so much potential… They could’ve written Penny’s friends to actually act like friends. It could’ve been a fun slice of life comedy cartoon with stellar representation and occasionally go in to deeper topics like racism in an accurate and non forced way and have heartfelt interactions between the cast. But it really is none of those things.
Tbh I lost any interest in this show when they made an episode about Oscar and Trudy locking/kicking Penny out IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT and calling it "discipline".
6:13 "although wealth and equality was actually a lot better in the 19th and 18th century compared to today. Even when we include the slaves." I'm going to need an elaboration on this. In the context of the United States which your video references, I'm astonished to hear this statement. The women's suffrage movement, civil rights movement, enslaved Africans, indigenous people that were slaughtered due to colonization would all disagree. I'm curious what makes you think that it was a lot better back then? "EVEN when we include the slaves"🧐
!! I'm such a dip I have a list of references for that section that I was meant to put in the comments section, thank you for reminding me - I'll add them now! I was surprised too! That doesn't necessarily mean that it was a better life ofc (hard no), but wealth inequality was notably less dramatic in the USA during the TA slave trade than it is now. At the end of the "debate", they make a big deal about how they "don't need reparations. All we need is our freedom." They're literally arguing for the opposition, but the writers were so delusional in their own heads that they forgot what the debate was actually about
It never fails to astound me that people on the left get so angry about the existence of the Tuttle Twins, which is a kids' show biased in favour of capitalism/libertarianism, and then make something like this...which is just as biased, in favour of leftist talking points! In all honesty, I believe that kids' shows shouldn't try to indoctrinate young viewers into a certain worldview...full stop!!!! Be it left, right or another socio-political ideology. However, one thing to keep in mind is that the Tuttle Twins is technically an independent cartoon and is only available on smaller streaming services, usually already with a conservative slant, whereas The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is a Disney Channel show...about as mainstream as it gets! Thus, I think it warrants more criticism.

"Black people can't be racist!"
That would be funny, except for the fact that the writing staff genuinely believe this.
In a parody that'd actually be pretty funny tbh
Wait… that wasn’t a joke? Penny wasn’t being sarcastic?!

“Racism equals prejudice plus power”
No. That’s wrong. People of all classes and backgrounds have been racist to each other.
Also, is anyone gonna point out the fact that even by that definition that still means it’s not exclusive
Influence? A gun?

This is the best show to demonstrate exactly what a "fair weather friend" is.

Using the excuse of “well I had it a lot worse so who cares how you feel you’ll never fully know pain unless you went through what I did” is also the exact same excuse a partner in an abusive relationship or an abused child would hear as an excuse from their abusive partner or parent who had once been abused themselves. For the sack of this comment section I won't talk about it but finding the information isn't very difficult.
Yup! Sadly, slavery has existed and continues to exist everywhere. The Transatlantic slave trade was *one of* the biggest-scale slave trades in human history - and that absolutely deserves recognition - but we don't need to ignore the other ones or make it a simple pantomime version of a racial issue (black sovereign kingdoms directly profited from selling POWs 😬) to recognise how insanely cruel it was. man i'm so sad this show turned out like this. i'm a white european and i've never heard about the old cartoon growing up, i got interested in this one because of the pretty artstyle and i feel like a lot of kids might too, and it's a shame they keep putting toxic messages in. it would've been a great way to educate children
The original is better, sure Penny's friends can still be insufferable at times but it is not to the degree this is at!
Definitely check out the original Proud Family.
Its impressive how mean spirited this reboot is when the original was so wholesome and had clever messaging that anyone could come away with
It feels like a platform for the writers' vitriol, rather than a discussion of difficult topics.
@@Truffs_Stuff Yeah, i notced that since Episode 1, just look at the books the kids are reading in that episode alone. like holy cow
Well they possibly dumbed her down to show white people are also, of cause, the ginger white girl is the door mat

Fuck that.

And to add to this couldn't any race ask for reparations from a race that wronged them in the past, like the japanese for genghis khan, or the Chinese for unit 731, or hell the jews for everything they went through during ww2, I personally think that's another problem with this is that if one race starts asking for it then shouldn't every race that's been wronged get them too
Because your forefathers did not paid it when they were asked for it 160 years ago? The demand for reparations is not a new thing

Yeah that song has always bothered me as a Haitian, yes while slaves did contribute to the U.S., the true building block of the U.S. was the colonization and ethnic cleansing of indigenous Americans. "You see how my skin is lighter than yours? Some people way back when used to think that the color of skin meant that I was cooler than you, or that you were cooler than me."
Her reply was great. "But you are so cool!"

And their design was a racist stereotype with buck teeth and everything
It's been a long time, young lady.

They shouldn't have reboot this in the first place, rebooting a long dead series that was cancelled prematurely is a double
edge sword. There's always a risk, you don't know if its a good or bad.
They could've done something interesting with it I think, but the writing just wasn't good enough for it 😅
Ahhh, Reperations.
